I signed up this morning. I thought a lot about it this week and I really get a lot of joy out of this event so I decided to go for it.

Hello! I signed up for this event, which I've always dismissed for the cost, but got this for my birthday this year. My in-laws even pitched in for it after my husband told them about it! I am drawn to this particular event, since it is an array of different content/teachers/companies/products instead of everything from one company! I am familiar with most of the companies and their products. The only thing I don't really have already is blending/alcohol markers. Do you get a couple in each box? I may get a few after we receive the box and see the booklet. Any particular brand you recommend?

I may get a few after we receive the box and see the booklet. Any particular brand you recommend? Welcome! In the last box from Sep 2023, we received two OLO markers. These are a newer alcohol marker (since last year?). I see there is a demo scheduled during the C&C, so there might be one in the upcoming box, but no guarantees. I know someone who uses OLO's so I gave the OLO's to her. It is an alternative to the more expensive Copic markers. I have used Copic for quite a few years now and have too much invested in them to switch to a different brand (that's why I gave mine away). A few people on here use the Arteza markers and Altenew has an alcohol marker. Maybe another company too. Hopefully those people can chime in. Personally, I would wait until the box of goodies arrives (probably end of August or beginning of September) and see just how many classes use markers. The Lawn Fawn class will for sure and maybe My Favorite Things (new this year!) , since they are the companies that mostly use "critters". The other classes usually use inks and stencils. I hope this helps.

Welcome mem186! This is a jam packed event and a very good stash builder. Its a perfect birthday gift 😊. OLO alcohol markers are one of the classes, so you will get a few markers. I have Ohuhu Honolulu series- brush/fine tip- alcohol markers from Amazon. They are a very good budget friendly markers. Lots of different color sets or the whole set is 320 colors. Now they are refillable too! The price drops down sometimes so just watch it for a little bit to get the best price.

Thank you azcrafty and @giantsfan ! Yes I'll def wait and see once we get the box. I will keep those kinds in mind! Maybe I will end up really enjoying the colored in style. I have a decent sized stash, but room for more cards-specific supplies... especially since I have peg boards in my craft space where I can just hang up more in front of older stuff

Welcome mem186! If you know you enjoy coloring, you may want to splurge on alcohol markers but if you are just dipping your toe in, I'd highly recommend an inexpensive set from Amazon. I purchased a set from Studio 71. I'm not a colorer so they work for me but they are not fancy. Since you have never attended one of the events before, I highly recommend that you read the previous Crop & Create threads. There's a ton of good info in them.

Thank you so much pinklady !! I will def make that consideration if I really like it or not! And yes I’ve watched all the YouTubes I could find and read through a lot of these threads before I signed up. Things I promise not to post in the Facebook group: - when is my box shipping? - do I need to have the exact supplies as the instructor? - I don’t have the same ink colors as the ones so and so is using - I’m so excited I will complete all 500 projects this one weekend! - ::question answered 100 times in the emails:: Hehe just a little snark! I am excited though and I’m setting some goals, as long as I can get the homework done, but I also purchased with the mindset I can use the ideas at any time throughout the year!

I’m in again this year too. I really enjoy this event. Even if there are a few companies that aren’t my go-tos, it is fun to try different styles and I almost always learn something new, even if the learning is that I don’t like a certain technique or product. I feel I definitely get my money’s worth.

Welcome mem186! Regarding alcohol markers, I would buy a cheap set before fully investing in alcohol markers. I have lots of alcohol markers but don't use it nearly as much since I prefer ink blending, diecutting, and watercoloring.

I caved and signed up last night. I've done 2 of these events (2021, 2022) and thought both were excellent. Got me way outside of my style/comfort zone - and that's a good thing! When I'm giving cards, people have different tastes from me so it doesn't matter that the cards aren't MY style. How often do I get birthday cards from my aunt that make me but it's the thought and sentiment that matter? And my card stash is empty - DD has stolen so.many.cards (Hey, Mom, you have a card for "x"?) - and these events stock me up. No, I don't need supplies. Yes, I wish I'd pull out old supplies and use them. But honestly - when I do make a batch of cards I often reach for the spiral bound books and use that for a starting point. The cost is...appropriate? Ouchie, but I feel like I trust SCT due to past events. I was looking at the Brutus Monroe event but it's an unknown for me so I'll look next time when there are reviews of this one! I've been hovering over at the GS board thinking that I wasn't going to have any friends doing this event - glad MDscrapaholic pointed me over here!

I love the diversity of this event. Even if it's cards or products I don't think I'll like, I do the class as intended/taught and then try the product using my own ideas. If I still don't like it, off it goes into the donate pile. Most of the time though I can find ways to turn the products into something I really like.

Haha, you'll do just fine! The FB group can be complete chaos at times, sometimes I have to take a break lol. Also, just an FYI, but there are a ton of coupon codes for all of the participating companies as well as online retailers for before and after the event. Some offer as much as 25% off everything in store, so it's worth waiting to purchase supplies until you get the coupon code information.

Thanks for all the tips everyone! Yeah I need to build up my card stash, this will be a fun way to do it!
What kind of cards do you need most? I'm glad there are going to be 2-ish classes with sympathy cards.
Also, since I'm new, is this the longest they've kept general registration open? Or only a couple times they had to close it early.

Yay! Glad you’ll be with us! Are you close enough to pick up your box instead of them shipping? Technically! It's 115 km/70 miles for me, but it's TORONTO and nobody drives across Toronto if they don't have to Highway 401 through Toronto is literally North America's busiest highway It was the widest highway for a long time but some road in Texas took over that record recently I believe.

Well, I put in for all those days off plus Monday. I have 60 days of vacation saved up - might as well use them! We were allowed to roll over our time during COVID, when no one was going on vacation, but now have to use them before Dec. 31. Can only roll over so many.

mcjunkin Catherine posted in the September 2023 crop and Create Facebook group. And of course, someone had to post, jokingly, have the boxes shipped yet?

With Libby being let go from My Favorite Things, do you still think she'll be teaching the class for this?
