Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) announced Friday he will resign effective April 19, leaving the slim House GOP majority with a one-vote margin that will make it even harder to pass legislation.

Under Wisconsin law, Gallagher’s seat is likely to remain vacant until January, with the November general election to determine who wins his seat.

Regrettably, it looks like Rand Paul and Mike Lee will delay and there will be a shutdown.

It seems simple: If senators want to offer amendments to this $1.2 trillion spending bill, why can’t they?

It is, sadly, not that simple.

If the Senate adopts any amendments to the spending bill, it would guarantee a government shutdown. Any change to the legislation would send the measure back to the House for approval. But the House has adjourned for two weeks — there’s no one here to approve anything. So that alone would cause a shutdown — and perhaps a lengthy one, too.

Senators are trying to eliminate amendment proposals, or hasten the way they’re processed, as a courtesy to her.

That can be done in two ways. The first is through “unanimous consent,” in which a lawmaker offers their amendment on the Senate floor and asks if any other member objects. If any other member does object, the amendment is defeated. It’s quick and easy.

The other, for timely processing, is by voting on an amendment with a 60-vote threshold for passage. That saves leadership from having to wrangle lawmakers to protect against a proposal passing with 51 votes, and thus ensuring a shutdown.

Some Republicans looking to offer amendments have rejected both options, preferring amendments that could pass with a simple majority, said Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), a key interlocutor with Schumer.

And Coons, who is also close with Collins, has just about had it.

“This is way past stupid. This is into mean,” he said. “For those who care about Susan Collins getting to her mother’s funeral first thing tomorrow morning in Caribou, coming to the floor and asking unanimous consent on a difficult topic and having a Democrat come to the floor and block it is almost the exact same thing as having a vote on an amendment that fails. There was a long effort to try and persuade more of the usual suspects to accept that treatment, which has not been as successful as we might have hoped.”

Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed credit for the attack in a post on Telegram in the hours following the news. However, experts caution there is no actual proof ISIS was involved, and that the extremist group has a track record of falsely taking credit for disasters they had nothing to do with, to try to inflate their perceived worldwide capabilities.

But that hasn't stopped some commentators from weighing in on X — and using the opportunity to pummel former President Donald Trump for his past wild claims about ISIS.

"That’s odd. Trump told me he wiped ISIS off the planet," wrote legal and political commentator Bradley P. Moss, an expert in national security.

"With ISIS apparently claiming responsibility for the terrorist attack in Moscow, two things," wrote former GOP-turned-Democratic strategist Ron Filipkowski. "1. Since we warned about an ISIS attack in Moscow 2 weeks ago, which Putin dismissed, our Intel knows more about what’s going on in Russia than theirs. 2. Trump says he destroyed ISIS."

Another GOP hypocrite claims Biden's success with the Inflation Reduction Act, as his.. go gym Jordan... Your claims of fake success is not being well received!!

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) is being called a hypocrite for taking credit for the results of Joe Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, which Jordan voted against.

Jordan, a frequent defender of Donald Trump who was recently accused of causing "real harm to the American people" in a letter by an ethics group, has been a staunch opponent of Biden, and has co-led the push to investigate the president for potential impeachable offenses.

But on Friday, Jordan appeared to celebrate Biden's major legislative comment, according to his social media followers.

“'New manufacturing plant to create 160 local jobs.' 'Sheetz to hire over 400 new employees in Ohio' 'Honda and LG Energy begin hiring for new plant.' Ultimately: Move your business to Ohio. Hire workers. See success," the congressman wrote on his social media.

The comments are almost universally about a single topic: Joe Biden's legislative accomplishments.

@artcandee wrote, "Thank Joe Biden for the money."

@nicholasabrown_ said, "Because of President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act – which Congressman Jim Jordan voted against."

@attacktrade added, "Jim will take credit for the sun rising tomorrow too."

One commenter simply posted an image with the word "hypocrite."

Michael Kelly, actor in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, also chimed in.

"Just look at what Biden has done even though you voted against all of it," Kelly said.

White House Deputy Communications Director Herbie Ziskend also pointed out the alleged hypocrisy.

"Thank you [Jordan] for spotlighting how the Inflation Reduction Act is driving job creation in Ohio!" he said on Saturday.

Ziskend brought evidence, as well. He included screenshots of various news articles, including, "Toyota, LG Energy sign $3 billion battery supply deal in U.S. EV push," and "Honda and LG Energy Solution Announce Ohio as Home to Joint Venture EV Battery Plant."

WASHINGTON — The same U.S. Supreme Court that overturned the constitutional right to an abortion will hear oral arguments Tuesday over access to mifepristone, a pharmaceutical used in both medication abortion and miscarriage care.

The nine justices will then decide whether to leave access to the drug intact or require the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to revert prescribing instructions to what were in place before 2016.

The court decision will affect the entire country, including states that have sought to shore up access to reproductive rights following the Dobbs ruling less than two years ago.

The Supreme Court opinion, likely not to come until late spring, will land in the middle of a presidential campaign in which Democrats are elevating the question of reproductive rights. The debate is also likely to affect GOP efforts to grow their majority in the U.S. House and flip the Senate red.

Trend toward medication abortion Medication abortion, a two-drug regimen that uses mifepristone and misoprostol, was used in 63% of abortions in the United States during 2023, according to a report released earlier this month by the Guttmacher Institute.

The new data shows a continued trend away from procedural abortions and toward medication abortion, which is approved up to 10 weeks gestation, that has been steadily increasing since the FDA originally approved mifepristone in 2000.

Pharmaceutical sciences professor Chris Adkins was perusing news on his computer in December when he came across an item that fascinated him: Anti-abortion groups had sued the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to force a recall on a commonly used abortion drug.

Adkins teaches future pharmacists at South University School of Pharmacy* in Savannah, Georgia. His early-career research focused on cancer drugs, but mifepristone is among the many drugs he’s familiar with. Adkins understood from the medical literature that the FDA-approved two-drug abortion regimen has a high safety and efficacy record. So, it surprised him to read plaintiffs arguing this medication is so unsafe it needs to be pulled from the market. But what he still can’t get over is the research U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk cited liberally to order a suspension of mifepristone’s FDA approval earlier this year.

Adkins dissected this paper the way he used to as a onetime peer reviewer. He told States Newsroom that the authors exaggerated their findings and visually misrepresented them in ways that are “grossly misleading.” And that’s led to legal consequences. Except, he said, their study doesn’t actually show what Kacsmaryk said it does: that medication abortion leads to significantly high rates of complications.

"I can’t prove that there was intent to deceive, but I struggled to find an alternative reason to present your data in such a way that exaggerates the magnitude,” Adkins said. “They’re misrepresenting its conclusions to begin with. That’s my frustration with this whole process.”

N.J. houses of worship get ‘bleeding control kits’ for potential mass shootings

Members from different houses of worship were invited earlier this month to gather at Guru Nanak Mission Gurudwara, a worship space for Sikhs in Oakland in Bergen County.

But, they weren’t there for a worship service. Instead, they gathered on a Friday night to participate in a training session and receive a key item — a bleeding control kit.

The state Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness began distributing bleeding control kits to thousands of houses of worship in New Jersey this month. The kits are designed to give churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other places of worship medical items to treat victims of potential active shooters before first responders arrive at the scene.

Tillerson was right .. TFG IS a moron!! Had the secret service not opened the door the FBI would have used a battering ram and knocked it down. NO they were polite, didn't even wear their official emblazoned FBI jackets, which draw lots of attention. It was a legally issued search warrant .. and no, they do not call you up and tell you they are coming!! It's a big surprise for many people. Although criminals generally have an idea that the FBI/LE will be coming to search for stuff that doesn't belong to the criminals!!
