But I do owe an explanation to my employer with a doctors not for a leave like that. But the public is not exactly Kate’s employer No, the public is not Catherine’s employer legally speaking, however some in this thread have said that the public funds her and so can expect to be told her medical details. I am asking how that is any different to an employee, who of course is funded by their employer. We were given a “note” albeit from the Palace not her doctors, to say she would not be working because of a medical event. Would a doctor’s note to an employer explain exactly what the event was? If so, then I guess it’s another cultural divide thing, because employers here are not entitled to know all the details of why an employee is sick.

A doctor's note that excuses the person from work and/or lists required accommodations, but the medical issue necessitating either does not have to be mentioned. Many people do voluntarily share more details, but I've never known it to be mandatory.

If you get pulled over driving drunk can you get out of it by saying I work for xyz company? Are you guaranteed to keep custody of your kids in a divorce because of your work position? Do you get the best medical care possible because of your employer, can you go to the hospital and get a private room and private duty nurse becuase you work for xyz? The royals have perks the rest of us will never have so I’m not going to shed a tear over them being asked to provide some details about their sick leave.

There’s a big difference in not being concerned for a public figure who does not know I exist, care I exist, and who will never be aware that I don’t care if the public wants information about her and having compassion. I didn’t ask for Kate’s info. I didn’t call her up and belittle her. I simply said I can see why the public wants information and can see why they might feel a royal owes it to them, with all the many, many perks those royals get in exchange. I have compassion for those abused by Andrew. For those affected by British colonialism. But im aware the general public thinks health care workers have to be saints at all times and aren’t allowed their own humanity or opinions.

I find it utterly laughable that anyone who wants to exist under a system where you believe who your parent is determines your ability to rule is frustrated that the public is interested in you. There is nothing else. Why the monarchy has not yet figured out that interest is the absolute only thing they have is mind boggling. You can't have the perks without the bullshit. Sorry not sorry that you think you're above it all - why Americans feed the insanity is what I don't understand. We decided long ago this system was stupid - why do we still care - they're just very, very flawed people who have never had to do anything and have continued to prove their very very real human flaws - divine right - yeah - no.

I'm certainly not a saint, but as a fellow nurse, I'm pretty shocked that you think ANYONE owes anybody any medical details or explanations. They don't. Of course HIPAA doesn't apply in this situation but certainly there must be an equivalent in England. I don't care at all about what Price Andrew might have done in regards to this scenario, as it doesn't relate to Kate--she doesn't owe anyone details or an appearance or anything else just because other members of the royal family might be pond scum. I do think it might help a bit if she made a quick video or something but really, she shouldn't have to. People are so overly invested in this whole thing. And the whole "get a private job"--that horse already left the barn. I for one love that there is still a British royal family, ever since I was a little girl who fell in love with Lady Di and her princess wedding. I wish it wouldn't have ended the way it did. I wish they'd leave Kate alone.

Yes, it kind of IS her job but there comes a point where morals, common decency and respect for a person have to come into play and if she is going through something intensely personal and is not at a point where she feels she wants to share her experience with the world, she should be allowed to keep it private. When did it become acceptable for society to require the minute details of her health, or anyones, to be laid bare and picked over? She has a public life and a private one and she should be allowed to keep them separate. If she wants everyone to know, she will say in her own good time. nightnurse , my remarks are not specifically directed at you but to everyone/anyone baying for details. I don’t take offense. I’m not deeply committed to my opinion here. I don’t feel this way about other types of celebrities. If you’re paid to make movies and you do that well, it doesn’t mean I deserve details about your private life because I recognize your face. But if you’re paid by the country (even indirectly) you owe the citizens some access to you. I’m not suggesting she needs to appear on tv showing off her surgical scars but how taxing would it be to make a brief public appearance? If she does have an ostomy, say that instead of hiding it like it’s shameful. I may be wrong and everyone can disagree with me but I do think the royals owe the public answers. You want privacy? Get a private job and don’t benefit from a public position. Not fair to expect to benefit from being a princess while deciding what associated responsibilities you’ll accept. For what it’s worth, I don’t think there’s anything particularly conspiracy theory worthy about the situation. She had surgery, she took some time off, I don’t care. I do think it’s human nature to speculate and it’s a lot more fun to go down the rabbit hole of British royalty conspiracy theories than it is to read the horrors of the daily news. I think the PR for the royal family has handled this abysmally. Better to have said nothing than release a poorly photoshopped picture. If I were Kate I’d be super annoyed with them.and id absolutely be watching all the tiktoks about myself. I can’t imagine it bothers her too much or that she cares what people think and if she is bothered by public speculation, again-get a private job. 👏 👏 👏

We are in London now - and early this morning as we were walking through Hyde Park, everyone is out running and biking and enjoying the start of their day - we were just saying how Kate could never just head out for a run. I can honestly say I would not want her life.

Love the buzz of being out in the morning and everyone is out running, walking, biking, heading to work, getting their coffee. Would not want to be “trapped” on my estate. It’s like the marina green in the morning - heaven.

What if Kate was having emotional issues, like depression. Would she really be expected to reveal all this to the public? I am not a follower of all this so I don’t know all the details, but I’d not want to think the public’s idea they have the right to know would supersede her right to privacy. I’m horrified by the media circus around this and wish she’d be given her privacy. Everyone is entitled to time off from their job

We were out at the Cotswolds yesterday and they said King Charles lives out there. Or do they just rotate among their estates lol??

The King and Queen still live at Clarence House where he has lived since he and Diana divorced, or thereabouts. Anyway when it's done and they move in, it will likely be just them. Once QEII's children were grown/married with their own homes, they did not live at BP though I think they may have maintained apartments there to occasionally stay the night when in London. ETA: Charles moved to Clarence House after the Queen Mother passed.

Highgrove House (Cotswolds) is the King and Queen's private (non official) home and widely believed to be his favourite residence.

You know all this chatter and theories would basically stop if there was just a simple "hey this is Kate, I'm fine. I'll be back" Well it wouldn't stop all together. But it would end a lot of the speculations of her being dead/dying/etc.

I also think this is much ado about nothing, with the Palace PR people handling it terribly.

I think the idea is that she could do it, rather than the palace—a thirty-second video thanking everyone for their love and support. I don’t think things got weird until that photo was released. FWIW I think people on social media have mostly just been having fun with this because it’s easier to come up with jokey conspiracy theories about another country’s monarchy than to worry about, say, creeping christian nationalism in your own country.

Just a thought on my part. It just seems so easy to do (from outside looking in) to put everything to rest until she is ready or willing to address it. And maybe she doesn't. Not our business really.

Hello very long time lurker here
there are a few things I feel the need to say
Someone mentioned KC3 has Prostrate cancer He does NOT He had trearment for an Enlarged Prostrate He has not disclosed what type of cancer He has BUT has confirmed it is NOT prostrate .
The Prince & Princess of Wales are actully largly funded by The Duchy of Cornwall which is a legacy fund built up with investments property portfolios etc etc . It is handed to each Prince of Wales So when William becomes King He will inheret The Duchy of Lancaster Prince George comes of age He will take over the Duchy of Cornwall & so on The majority of the grant TRF get each year goes on keeping the Royal buildings standing it has been stated many times that The Queen actully used Her own personal money towards building upkeep because the grant very rarly covers it Also only Working Royals get anything from the Grant which mainly goes on expensives as They don't actully get that much .
All this fuss over where The Princess of Wales is just plain awful leave the poor woman alone ffs
People have no right demanding medical evidence A statment was given at the time why can people not be satifyed with that ??
Oh by the way please stop calling Her 'Kate Middleton ' She stopped being known as that when She got married it is just lazy & rude

Maybe she doesn't care what is going out in the world. Just a thought on my part. It just seems so easy to do (from outside looking in) to put everything to rest until she is ready or willing to address it. And maybe she doesn't. Not our business really. When would she had done it though? I know when I had outpatient surgery I didn't feel up to much for days, and that didn't involve staying in the hospital for more than a week! If she was on pain medication, she might not have felt (or looked) coherent enough to be filmed - can you imagine how she would have been ripped to shreds if she appeared high on narcotics after her surgery? At the point where she may have felt up to filming something, it could have been several weeks or more, at which point the conspiracy theories were already spreading and people would have been like, oh this is a knee jerk response to the theories. The poor woman can't win, even when the time table was laid out at the start. Also, the people who trade whispers about how this was a planned surgery, but then she had to cancel appearances, claiming that it wasn't as planned as the Palace states (insinuating that the surgery was really an emergency due to self harm or William hurting her), have clearly never scheduled someone in that kind of position. Scheduling is a crazy dance, and things are booked out months/years in advance, as there are all sorts of logistics that go into such an appearance. If routine medical testing discovered a problem, the surgery would have been scheduled, but it would have been scheduled after she had made commitments for events that occurred during the recovery window. As an example, I broke my back in December 2020. The imaging at the ER revealed a previously unknown issue in my abdomen. After I recovered from the broken back, I followed up on the abdominal issue with additional scans, watchful waiting, more scans, and bloodwork, before surgery was eventually scheduled for April 2021. I had to reschedule a few things that I had previously committed to do, because of the expected two week recovery time from that outpatient surgery. If that happened to random me, I can't imagine how much more complex rescheduling Kate's calendar would have been.
