Is anyone planning on taking part in this event. I think signups are later this week. Maybe I’ve missed it, but I haven’t seen any info about it. Have you?

Haven't seen any info. But I have a reminder on my calendar to sign up for an event this Friday. So I am thinking the sign up starts April 5th??
Unless I'm confusing it with another event. I know the event is supposed to be on 6/29.

I want to see the price and hopefully some sneaks, but I'm thinking about it.

I am almost certainly signing up. I like PF events and would like the push to use the GlimmerMist that's been sitting collecting dust.

What foiling machines do y’all have? Does it matter for this event?

I have the Spellbinders Glimmer system, works great. But I need to use it more often too. I think the last time I used it was to make Christmas cards.
I'm sure it doesn't matter what system you use, as long as it heats up the foil plate.

I have the one it goes with my Gemini. I only used it a few times but I like it. And embarrassingly, I even have the Spellbinders one as a back up. I haven't used this yet. I have to use my vagabond for this one so its less handy. I'm going to use this one for the class because I'm sure this is what they are going to use.
I got both for a steal that was hard to resist 🤷♀️🤣

I’m in and I’m so glad they are using press plates so I can use them with both systems. Very excited to yank out my betterpress too.

Usually with a full size press plate and Gemini paper foil I would heat it to 30 or 45 seconds and it worked perfectly on low heat. I even had purchased extra platforms when they they were cheap on Amazon. My understanding is that the other hot foil, spellbinders, crafty cottage, etc. heat at at a higher temperature which means you need your platform on high for those which can warp your platform.

I have one or two hot foil days a month and use my machine for hours at a time. I buy my foil from http://www.shopbeecreative.com They almost always have a decent price and good selection. If you use the Foilpress with the Gemini paper foils you will have mostly perfect foiling every single time.

This is more like a letterpress event than a hot foiling one.
Curious how a multi step and background plate would work with hot foiling. Some of the reverse foiling gets to shiny for my taste. At this point I'm a little disappointed there are no coordinating stencils with any of these classes.
I'm going to wait for more info or sneaks. I really don't want to get a letterpress system and I feel that this event is more for that theme.

So far I was able to get some CC foils and they do work great , hopefully they won't discontinue making them.

Ok. I thought for certain I would be signing up for this with zero hesitation but looking at that list I'm not so sure. There are zero stencils and not a single stamp. I don't mind having a sentiment ephemera pack and I have tons of sentiment stamps, but I do not enjoy coloring at all. And has anyone looked at the supply list? Why would we need a powder tool, heat gun, and embossing powder if there aren't any stamps? Can you heat emboss using press plates? I wish they would have shown us a sneak or two, that would have helped, but I think I might be signing up for Amy's class instead.

Good point about the stencils. But, I'm still excited. I think you could emboss with the press plates, just use Versamark instead of regular ink. Now that I think about it, it's a good option for people who don't have access to foiling equipment.

I don't have a hot foil machine and know very little about it but I thought I read/heard somewhere that all the companies are moving away from "hot foil plates" and making "press" plates for 2 reasons, they foil better than "foil" plates and they are dual purpose so more bang for your buck. Also, I think you can foil with press plates but you cannot impress with foil plates.

Seriously...I really have no knowledge of press plates or foiling...I honestly just have a good memory when it comes to craft supplies Last month at Creativation, Spellbinders announced/demo'd their new multi-step press plates using templates so you could line up the individual dies to ink up in multiple colors. I originally saw it on Facebook but found this video. If you go to about the 17:08 mark you can see it being demo'd. There are templates on the magnet side where you line up pieces of the press plate image. ETA: Looks like they are already selling these things: spellbinderspaperarts.com/products/blooming-garden-press-plates-from-the-betterpress-place-press-registration-collection

I believe she said that going forward they would be doing only press plates for the dual purpose.

pinklady I heard the same thing ,but in my opinion this event reads as letterpress event because what you get. The hot foil system doesn't have a magnetic base so how are you going to make sure everything lines up right. I think I just need more info to push me to buy. And I think the amount of products we get for $170 its kind of skimpy. 5 plates and 4 dies. I guess they spoiled me with the cardmaking events. 😆

They said at the last event they are only doing press plates from now on because they are dual purpose. I love the change, I know that metal is more pricey which is probably why no stencils this time. I hope they eventually sell coordinating stencils.

From the event listing: "Please note that if you are not into letterpress cards then you can use the same card design to create hot foiled card and vice versa."

I went ahead and signed up. While I have the Betterpress, I'm not interested in a BP class right now so will focus solely on foiling. Once I feel like I've got that technique down, I'll go back and view again with the purpose using for letterpress techniques when I'm ready/interested in learning it.

I signed up. I really hope that this helps me to use foil more often. With tips and tricks, I feel like I’m not very comfortable with it yet. Also, since I just purchase a better press a few weeks ago, I’m excited that they’ll have us working with both if we like. High hopes for lots of learning at this event 🤞🏻
