I have a bunch of cards to share, I'll take pics and post them over the weekend. In the meantime, what's been your favorite technique so far?

I'm having a hard time answering that, given there are many I still haven't tried. I'm frustrated that the combined PDF isn't available yet. I'd like to be able to flip through, compare one project to another, etc. I know I'm also mentally mixing in the free videos, which were often similar with subtle differences. One of the two cards I completed combined two days' lessons. Others even after seeing what folks have posted to FB and flipping through my folders again, I just don't seem have anything that works. I definitely have time to leave things out and keep playing.

So, we all know that I am NOT the queen of ink-blending (she being you, MichyM), so I was intrigued by the JM video where she showed the sanding technique with white-core papers. I tried it with a panel from an SB.C color pad. The results were less than stellar, I think because it's not quite heavy enough paper. I suspect that the trick used with embossing vellum -- to put another panel of card stock in the folder with it -- might help. I might finally be able to try Jaycee's Hostas panel today. Prior to event, when I was clicking through the links to various embossing folders used, I thought the Altenew Hostas looked like it was my kind of style. I didn't notice that they also used the stencil (it wasn't actually mentioned at all on that early supplies list available prior to class). So, the folder jumped into a shopping cart and I debated getting the stencil. It wasn't too many layers, didn't have any of those crazy one stencil sheet/two different stenciling areas things, or too many tiny little spiky delicate stencil pieces, so it looked like my kind of stencil. So I did buy both. But still thinking only the folder would be used in class, I separated them and promptly misplaced the stencils! But I just found them!!

I have watched all the videos but I wasn’t able to participate because I’ve had so much going on this week. I have to admit was kind of feeling like this class was a waste of money because there was nothing “new” presented. With the exception of Jennifer’s Friday video, all of that stuff can be found on both Jennifer and Kristina’s blogs.
That being said, I really loved Jennifer’s video from Friday. I have never seen or thought of using an embossing folder transfer ink & design from the gel press to the paper. I’ve resisted getting a gel press but I may invest in one after that.
Day 2 is my favorite way to use embossing folders, especially mandala type folders. Jennifer has a great video from years ago using WeR Memory Keepers embossing folders. I was and still am so wow’d by this technique.
I also really liked a majority of the card examples. I think Jennifer’s “go to” diagonal card layouts are my favorites.
After Friday I felt a bit better about the cost but overall I think my expectations were set too high.

See, after watching Jennifer's video from Day Two and running RIGHT OUT and getting a brayer, I chose NOT to watch Day Five. If you mean specifically the technique of embossing one color into the background and then brayering another over the top, pinklady, I agree I'd like to try that one. i'm looking around to see what I might want to do that with. More panels: I used the same formula of ink as Jaycee, but some yellowy greens instead of blue greens. I possibly should not have started with yellow card stock therefore, but hostas are pretty yellow anyway, so I think I'm ok with it. Don't like either sanded piece. Don't know whether it's a bad folder for the technique or bad paper or both. Thinking about getting out some enamel effects and a sponge dauber and seeing if I can salvage them with that technique in that Meghann Andrew video someone posted.

Looking forward to seeing your cards, MichyM. Lots of options for using those pretty panels, Shakti. Awesome cards, justjac! Love how those vehicle tracks turned out. Perfect for that antique car. And those cute sewing puns and images work perfectly with that needle folder. I found my balloon 3-D folder and have run it through my Vagabond. Hope to do some inking using a balloon stencil. That was the technique that most intrigued me, I think because it was something I had never done before, yet something I could see myself managing.

I did not watch the gel press video until Sunday because I totally did not want to get sucked into buying a gel press. Well, guess what I ordered from SSS yesterday? If anyone has gel press videos that they recommend, I am ALL EARS. I don't get to youtube really, unless someone has suggested a video to watch, so just searching for "gel press" may get me way too much to sort through. Thanks girls!

Thanks girls! yes, I think you'll be overwhelmed very quickly searching for gel press videos - so many people use them for different kinds of art - but there are a few card makers I can think of who use them who have videos. Ardyth Percy Robb has developed from using them with basic stamping inks to using paints and more techniques Playlist: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B52yA0Yt8I&list=PLGLSuElJ3ywhdmbFYO2l2iw8ZCW78RFC1Tiffany Solorio is another person I think of using gel printing ~Tiffany~.Solorio/playlists" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.youtube.com/ ~Tiffany~.Solorio/playlists and Julie Fei Fan Balzer is the first artist I followed who used it, but her focus is more collage and not cardmaking www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLy5RH1BZql4Ky1-9jmIdjUL26ImM1p2FYJennifer McGuire has dabbled youtu.be/cfwbp-NtdGg?si=ShcPsp0qKnOZqVecand I saw a SSS video come up when I was looking for another one. I'm sure YT will take you down a rabbit hole

Fabulous cards everyone! How many of us signed up for this class thinking we have too many embossing folders we don’t use? How many of us bought more embossing folders? Yes to both for me and I haven’t even finished all the classes

Yes to both for me and I haven’t even finished all the classes I took advantage of the Spellbinders sale and 5 folders arrived on Tuesday, I'm a happy girl I have a few coming from SSS's sale as well. I'm such a good little shopper. That said, I've only been making cards for 2 years and am still very short of 2D folders. I've got to keep my eyes out for those. So far SSS and SB.com aren't too much help, the vast majority they carry are 3D. If anyone has any particular companies that they recommend I look at for 2D folders, please let me know. Oh, I did find one I like at TE, but I need to wait until I have enough products for free shipping.

That is so funny, MichyM . I have quite a few regular embossing folders and I'm frustrated this week because they don't seem to work as well as 3D with some of the techniques from the classes. I do still wish that they had more information about how to choose folders for specific techniques. The SB Embossing Folders of the Month are standard; I would say only about half of my from them are 3D. I think my other standard folders might all be Sizzix or Sizzix/Stampin' Up. SSS is not good about identifying their folders clearly in this regard, but theirs do seem to be primarily or entirely 3D. Altenew as well as near as I can tell. I do like standard folders for adding subtle texture to a background.

I think Cathy Z addressed the topic better than most of the instructors, but I kind of expected more of it.

Also, MichyM, at this point, I've been making cards for two years and I'm pretty sure I noticed at some point that you were about a year ahead of me. Are you sure you haven't been making cards for three years?

Are you sure you haven't been making cards for three years? I started getting into card making at the very beginning of 2022, so I guess it's now 2.5 years! I had made very, very basic cards for the annual holiday card swap for a year or two prior to that as well. But only at the holidays.

MichyM your cards are beautiful You're making me want to buy some more embossing folders. And dies. I like the effect with the diffuser, and it seems like it did the job perfectly.

Fabulous cards everyone! How many of us signed up for this class thinking we have too many embossing folders we don’t use? How many of us bought more embossing folders? Yes to both for me and I haven’t even finished all the classes I didn't think I had too many and I always used them, though maybe not as often as I could have. Yes, I did buy 5 more. One of which has me pretty frustrated. I had no interest in the balloon folder listed in the supplies because it looked too similar to a background stamp I have. Then somebody in the FB group posted a card they'd made with an Altenew balloon embossing folder with round, heart-shaped, and star-shaped balloons. That looked different enough to be a good addition, especially since I already had an Altenew mini-set with stamps and a die for a heart-shaped balloon. And they had a mini set with a star balloon too! Sat down to work with it all today. Couldn't find a plain circle die that fit the round balloon, but would you believe a balloon die from a HA set worked perfectly? And the star balloon die from the mini set fit the one in the embossing folder, too. But the heart-shaped balloon from the mini set? That's noticeably larger. Sort of works for die cutting a shaker window; doesn't really work well at all for creating a quick blending stencil. Really Altenew?! This right here is why I hate to love you like I do....

I managed not to buy any new folders so far, but if my LSS had any in stock, I might have. Here are a few more cards I made this weekend. I have had these Tim Holtz debossing words for at least a decade (I think).
