I am re-reading and thoroughly enjoying Nancy Drew. As a kid, I would take the latest book, climb the tree in our front yard, and read to my heart’s content. My actual books are long gone but I’m getting them from eBay. So sue me…I’m a kid again!

I'm thrilled to hear this. I had the entire set of 56 books in hardcover when I was a child. I thought they were lost forever but eventually found them at Mothers. She forgot where she had put them. I have had them here for a few years now and have often thought of rereading them.

I’m sure my alcohol-riddled mother threw them out. She is the reason I was up in a tree in the first place. But, back to happy. These books are terribly sweet. I can’t wait to see the full set in the bookcase in my room!

I loved Nancy Drew and had almost all the books. The got lost in our move from Alaska to New York. I was heartbroken.
I did purchase several for my niece when she was younger. She loved them as well.

This makes my heart swell! Same, up in a tree, or next to the tree with my Nancy Drew books. I made a,scrapbook layout titled I Wanted To Be Just Like Nancy.

I was more into the Bobbsey Twins series than Nancy Drew, but DD1 loved Nancy Drew when she discovered that series as a pre-teen/tween. My MIL kept all of the ND books that belonged to DH's sisters and DD would borrow them a few at a time from their bookshelf when we visited (the family library LOL). She acquired a few of her own eventually and re-read them periodically throughout her teens. Fast forward to now...MIL recently finished downsizing and moved into her senior living community...none of DH's sisters wanted the Nancy Drew books that were left on the bookshelf so they came home with us. (Interestingly, one of my SIL's was also a Bobbsey Twins gal like me so those are the ones she wanted.) Makes my heart happy to see people continuing to enjoy these books. I never owned any Bobbsey Twins books, but was a regular at our local library back in the day. I'd check out the limit, read/rinse/repeat...all summer long!
ETA: The Nancy Drew books that came from MIL's are going out to DD1s house to complete her collection.

I was also a Bobbsey Twins fan. I didn’t have a tree to climb up but my neighbours had a huge swing. I would swing and read (yes, at the same time!) for hours. Just thinking about it now makes me nauseous- there is no way I could do that now.

My neighbor friend would get the books and let me read them when she finished each one. I can’t remember ever having my own. Although I read each one. Going down to her house hoping there was another one to devour. To this day, when taking a drive on a tree lined, windy road; I’ll think, boy this looks like a Nancy Drew road. Or Nancy Drew house right over there. Good times for sure. 😊

I loved reading Nancy Drew. My cousin had a ton of them. Not sure if she had the entire collection but she had a lot.

When purchasing used/pre-loved Nancy Drew books, please be aware of the publication date.
Apparently Nancy Drew "grew up" in some later editions and isn't quite the sweet young thing as in the earlier versions.
My friend who works in a library told me about this.

I make sure and buy the yellow spine books that I remember from childhood.

I don't think I owned very many of them but I loved reading Nancy Drew from the library. My great niece loves to read and I can't wait to introduce her to books I loved as a kid when she's a little bit older. I've been thinking about rereading the Little House books.

I tried to get my DD to read the books I loved as a kid. Zero interest. She is an avid reader but like the newer authors- Lemony Snicket is a favorite.

Hey, no one’s mentioned Trixie Belden. I read a few of hers. Anyone else? I actually just logged in to post this. I was not a Nancy Drew fan but was a huge Trixie Belden fan. We’ve talked about this here and there over the years and I think there were quite a few Trixie Belden fans here. 👍😄 I had the original 16 in hardcover and then there were more that were written through the years. They were in paperback. I have quite a few of those also. They are still at my parents’. I really need to get them the next time I am home and reread them. My favorite all time series as a kid. The great Brain and Encyclopedia Brown were up there but Trixie was my girl. 😆

I LOVED Nancy Drew - I actually bought one at an antique mall not too long ago and re-read it - I might just try to re-read all of them too - this sounds so wonderful! And, I also loved Trixie Beldon!

Hahaha love it!! Enjoy your reading. I was a voracious reader as a child. I never read a Nancy Drew book, but I owned every single 'Trixie Belden' book, as well as Enid Blyton's 'The Adventurous Four' and 'The Secret Seven' series. I can't wait to have grandkids so I can read all of the Enchanted Woods / Magic Faraway Tree books again.

That's so funny because I was JUST talking about Larkspur Lane (passed a real one) and it made me want to re-read the early Nancy Drew books!
The other day someone hadn't ever heard the word "swarthy" so I knew she never read those books.

I, too loved Nancy Drew as a child. Read all her books and would go into Bookstar with my mom and it was our favorite place. I would get newer books and had so many but I think I did eventually give them away. I had the newer versions (the paperback) I believe. I do see them at goodwills occasionally.
Also, loved Sweet Valley High and even watched the tv show.
