Or register for a postal vote if you’ll be on holiday.
That announcement was a joke though, with the rain, no umbrella and the loud Tony Blair music blasting away.

gar didn't see the announcement as I was preparing dinner but I've read that the music was from outside the Downing street gates and was D:Ream's Things Can Only Get Better. Someone was ready.

Yes it was Tony Blair’s campaign theme. I’ve heard it at an announcement at Downing St before - I can’t remember which one - you’d have thought they’d have been ready this time.

Or register for a postal vote if you’ll be on holiday. I have a permanent postal vote. Sadly the permanent holiday didn’t happen. I need to catch up on the news. It’s a non event here so far, only one person has mentioned it.

Because I work an election polling station i don’t have time to vote (we have to be there from 6am until closing down after 10pm) so i definitely want to make sure I can cast my vote.

This will sound daft - the station you officiate at isn’t the polling station for your vote?

I love how y'all are set to vote on our Independence Day- feels somewhat ironic. 🤣🇬🇧🇺🇸

For some reason I assumed that the UK had compulsory voting, as we do in Australia. But I just googled and that's not the case.
Which way do you think it's going to go?

AussieMeg, the polls have had the Labour Party ahead for over a year. Labour polling above 40% and the Tories in the 20% zone. Nothing the Tories have implemented have changed the numbers. Under the rules Sunak had to call an election before Jan 2025, he said it would be in the second half of this year. It was assumed it would be Autumn, this " just in the second half" date surprised a lot of people. I've read quite a few comments about voting tactically just to oust a Tory. The Tory vote is further under threat from a new party called the Reform party, more right wing. I am assuming that there will be a Labour government but as they say a week is a long time in politics so the next six weeks or so will be interesting. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68079726

Although the...shall we say...disillusionment with the conservatives is palpable, Labour would need a massive swing to win so it's not a foregone conclusion. Local recent by-elections have seen the Tories lose a lot of seats but also Labour lost a lot of the Muslim votes because of their stance on Gaza so they still have work to do.

I cam honestly say I will prob not be voting for anyone this election because no one is offering anything new .
If the Tories stay in They will continue their attacks on those of us whom claim long term sickness benefits ,
And if Labour get in lots of Women only safe spaces will be put at risk due to Labours crackpot lefty ideology . Also nearly every Labour run council is either bankrupt or nearly bankrupt that alone is enough to make Me not want to give my vote to them .

I get your frustration zippythebird - there’s no one jumping out at me as a great leader to put my faith in, but I think we have a duty to vote, particularly as women. Just my personal opinion.

We have about six weeks maybe something will change My mind , My local MP stepped down which to be honest was a good thing as His voting record was terrible , His seat was considered ' true Blue safe ' at one point not so sure now .

I'd be surprised if any seat could be considered safe this time round. I expect campaigning to be quite fierce; the next few weeks will be interesting as it ramps up. I know a number of women, and a few men, who refuse to vote - "it won't make a difference/I can't be bothered/I'm not interested in politics" etc. etc. One woman is just a little younger than me and has never voted. Those attitudes annoy the heck out of me but you can see from the turn out just how many seem to think that way. I don't think any of these are you zippythebird, I think you are saying you are disenchanted with the parties.

We had the first election leaflet through the door by ten am this morning.
It's been 14 years since our MP knocked on our door. It will be interesting if to see if they make it to more than one house in the village this time around. Their majority went down the last time and I doubt anything is being taken for granted even if the seat is considered blue.

Ok so I just heard of this vote only bc supposedly the royal family canceled all scheduled appearances for 6 weeks which I guess is when this vote will happen. Can I ask what this signifies?

To avoid the optics of being political, I guess. I read that they will still attend e.g. the d-day commemoration events and have royal garden parties but events where they attend a food bank or homeless shelter won't happen.

I imagine (correct me if I'm wrong zippythebird) that she means he's a larger than life personality, charismatic (?) he attracts attention, you knew exactly where you stood and although he's 'marmite' he wasn't wishy washy, bland etc.

I just saw on the BBC that Nigel has decided to run again, for Reform UK. He doesn't want to disappoint the millions of people who would be disappointed if he did not run, apparently.
Oh, and in case you were wondering:
Reporter: Are you still planning to help your friend Donald Trump? Nigel: I haven't changed my mind. Conviction or not, I haven't changed my mind that the world will be a safer place with Donald Trump in the Whitehouse.

Yeah well that tells you everything you need to know doesn’t it 🙄 7 times he’s tried but has never been an MP but he’s the sort of character who attracts attention and the Conservatives won’t be happy about this.

Nigel is a nasty nasty man but I think He will lose like He has all the other times He has stood for election , The local Labour candidate was knocking on doors yesterday sadly all He wanted to talk about were the ' fluff topics with soundbites ' . Nothing really about what He plans to do locally which to Me is more important than Countrywide because even tho the old Tory MP had a poor voting record He was very active in the community & did loads for local enviromental issues ( we are one of the seaside towns affected by the southern water scande) So very big boots to fill . TBH I think I broke Him a bit with all My questions I can not wait for the Tory & Lib Dens to come a knocking ...
