Tonight on the news, a family had their kids suitcases stolen from baggage claim. But...after landing, they ate, then went to get their bags! I guess they were very hungry.

No way! No matter how hungry I was I'd wait the extra few minutes to get my luggage first!

I wouldn't because I just want to get out of there, plus I want to get our luggage. But I can see doing this because there are instances where the good eating places are after the TSA security check point. And you can't get back to them after you get your luggage. Plus, they had kids. I don't know how old though.

It doesn't sound so crazy to me. I don't check luggage, but many airports don't have restaurants outside of security, and if you've got hungry kids, have to get a rental car or other transportation, don't know the area so don't know where restaurants will be, had a long flight, and so on... it could easily be an hour until you get food if you don't get it after getting off the plane.
I wouldn't do a sit down meal, but I can totally imagine grabbing something to go in the airport before getting luggage.

I hardley ever fly and haven't in eons so things maybe a lot different then I remember.
But to me, I think it would depend. If I was in a HUGE airport and the restaurant i really wanted was before the baggage claim by quite some distance, I just might if I was alone, but if I had kids or someone in better shape than me that would go fetch the luggage, I would do that first.
I can't imagine what might happen if I didn't get my bag and there was that lonely bag going around in circles for a half hour or more. I'm sure they would grab the bag and put it somewhere so the next load could come in, but that's where it would get real sketchy whether you would ever find your bag.

Yes! If I had hungry little kids and there was only decent food in the terminal, and if I thought it would be fast.

One time our bags got put on an earlier flight. We were waiting and waiting for ours to show up. Eventually, one of us spotted our bags, sitting off to the side in a holding area.

The children were teenagers. I know sometimes it can take a bit for bags to arrive, but I would not take that chance.

No. I often land at 8:00 when I fly for work. I will stop and pick up a salad to take to the hotel, if I haven’t eaten in the plane. But, I wouldn’t sit down and eat.

I could see grabbing something to go. But I wouldn’t sit down at a restaurant.

It would totally depend on the airport/length of flight and availability of food nearby etc, but definitely not out of the question. I hardly ever check bags, but my kids often do for their semester move in/move out. My son ALWAYS has a connection and if he was landing at our home airport after flying all day - it's a wasteland when you leave the airport, so I could totally see someone in that scenario getting something to eat first. Thieves suck.

I have. A couple of years ago I flew from Dallas to Denver on a very early morning flight. I'm diabetic and by the time I arrived I needed to get something to eat and use the restroom. Thankfully, my luggage was being held for me. Honestly, it didn't even occur to me that my luggage might be stolen.
There weren't restaurants on the baggage claim side of the airport, so I didn't feel like I had many options.

I'm not sure it was even an option the last airport I flew in to. But it was on the late side so maybe places were closed and I didn't notice. However, I could have had a three course meal with waiter service in the time it took for my bag, just one bag, to appear.
In this situation I would have had two people, one adult, one child, go get takeaway food while the other two go directly to baggage reclaim. Both areas covered.

In a group where some could wait for the bags while the rest went to order, yes. On my own, no.

Not a chance. We take snacks on the plane and if needed, Delta has pretty good snack boxes for $10.

No, because of the possibility of the bags coming before eating and because I'm too cheap to eat airport food unless absolutely necessary. If you are that close to getting out of the airport and going somewhere else, I would wait.

Never, not even with kids. I wouldn’t ever be that hungry because I always, ALWAYS bring an assortment of my own snacks with me. 1) I don’t want to wait and 2) I’m too cheap to pay airport prices for marginal food. I like being at the point where I can see the bags as they’re coming down so I’m prepared to grab them right away and don’t have to wait for them to come around the conveyor again.

No, I wouldn't stop to eat before getting my bags. The most I would do is pick up a grab and go type something that I can take with me to the baggage area.

I haven't checked a bag in 10 years, but it's easy enough to grab and go something to eat on your way out of the airport.

Good idea in theory. but reality is your kids wouldn't be able to get back through security to join you to eat.

99% of the time I would say no, that luggage is first priority. I guess there could be a scenario that it could happen. First I wouldn't want to pay airport prices for a meal. So my first stop for food would be on the way out of the airport. If I had kids hungry I would surely have snacks to tie them over. Who travels with kids and don't have snacks?? Usually while I love hanging around an airport, if I am landing I am heading out as fast as I can.

People who don't fly much might. Now bags come down more quickly than people realize. I picked up my sister and niece at the airport. I got there and sat in the cell lot forever because my niece was getting "hangry" and had to eat right f-ing now when they got off the flight.
It's still illegal to steal bags, so even if you don't get to bag claim right away, you shouldn't be blamed for them getting stolen. We have airtags in our bags so if they walk away, we can track them.

Oddly, there is a large number of folk who have no idea you can take food onto an airplane. Your own food, not just food purchased inside the secure areas.
I have food allergy issues and now always pack my own meals and snacks. People I fly with are always surprised.
You have to follow the liquids rule, but other than that I have never had issues.
I can see stopping to grab to-go food if they knew they had a long ride with and uber or shuttle or something after the flight. I would not do it, but can understand it.

No, I would’t stop and eat. I don’t usually check luggage, but I have more than once over the years had someone mix up my bag with theirs, so I want to be at the carousel when the bags come off. The airline I usually use has a 20-minute bag guarantee, so that’s too small of a window to eat.
I get having hungry kids and all sorts of things about travel and scheduling, but I don’t personally risk it.

I could see it. I wouldn't sit down though and risk it. We get up at 2 - 2:30 am to take a regional flight to an international airport and there is usually a tight-ish connection. So no grabbing food. Last time we had 2 connections, flew to Maui. Got in there at 6:30 pm home time. So I had hardly eaten on 24 hours. I'm gluten free and brought some things but I was still starving when we got there.

I have never done it and we do travel regularly. I probably wouldn’t do that, We are more likely to pick up food before boarding the plane.

I remember when I started flying over 30 years ago. You had to show your baggage ticket in order to get your bags. So do they have any recourse?
