7/15 PUPdate:
Wili’s first follow up went well!
Dr said his numbers look good! Liver enzyme has gone down, and kidney is about the same. They want to do labs again in 6 weeks.
He’s free to get a bath. Yay!!!

6/25 PUPdate!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Our internal medicine Dr just called and had GREAT NEWS! He said that they got all of the liver tumor and all of the kidney and that there is no evidence of any cancer remaining. We need to give him just a few more days to recover more before letting him like chase after JJ or after a squirrel, but he is now allowed to get on the furniture if he wants to.
NO chemo/radiation is needed at this time! So, our next step is to just keep an eye on him. We have a follow up appointment on 15 July, and after that, as long as everything still looks good, we will be doing an ultrasound every six weeks just to make sure that things haven’t spread, since there was a very thin margin that was left between the kidney. As of now, his remaining kidney and chest is clear, so that’s good news!
Praise God!🐶🥰

6/20 PUPdate:
Fabulous news!
The oncologist Dr Burney that took over his post op care just called. He’s very happy with his recovery process. He did more labs this morning, and everything looks great! There’s a couple of numbers, one liver and one kidney, that are slightly elevated, but he said that that is expected after surgery.
So…drumroll…….he's coming home this evening! YAY!!! So relieved, and thankful that everything has gone so smoothly. Praise God!
We will get the pathology results back next week, so we’ll find out then how we’ll need to proceed.

6/19 PUPdate:
We're heading to see Wili right now. Dr just called to make sure we were coming. (They are actually closed today.) He said the labs from this morning look good, and his kidney function looks great! He didn't eat last night, but no one is surprised. He's been through a lot, and he's a diva. Dr. said he's allowed to be. LOL So relieved!
Wili looked VERY comfortable. LOL
Dr is going to try to take him off the Fentanyl, and gradually move to Gabapentin tonight. Still unsure when he'll come home, but most likely Friday. It's still 50/50 whether or not he'll need chemo/radiation.
He didn't eat last night, but we got him to eat some turkey meat while we were there.
He'll recheck his kidney and liver function tomorrow, but so far everything looks great!
6/18 PUPdate::
Our precious Wili is out of surgery, and starting to wake up from the anesthesia. Hoping to hear from the oncologist, who is taking care of him post-op, later today.
Surgery is complete. He didn’t get the whole liver mass because he thought it would cause more problems, but he’s happy with what he was able to get. If it’s one of the three types of tumors he thinks it is (he sent it off for testing), it’s very slow growing. We could go back in later if need be, but he thinks he’ll be good for at least a couple more years there.
As for the kidney, it was really bad. So glad it was caught when it was. He, and the oncologist that we spoke with on Monday, said that they believe his other kidney has already been picking up the slack, so going forward it should be fine.
Praise God that’s over, and he’s on his way to a full recovery! Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. This momma and daddy needed them!🥰

6/11 PUPdate: So, it seems we are looking at the best prognosis. The liver mass was what the Dr was expecting, and needs to be removed as it will keep growing, and could eventually burst, which would send him into liver failure. He believes that due to its shape, the entire mass can be removed.
As for the kidney, if not removed, the cancer could spread to the other kidney, causing kidney failure. If it’s removed, the other kidney should be able to pick up the slack. He has no reason to believe that his other kidney would fail.
He has had other dogs with the same liver mass that has lived at least 1 more years, and up to 4.5. He says that Wili is otherwise healthy, and should have no issues living a happy, comfortable life for whatever time he still has.
We are looking to do surgery hopefully in the next two weeks. He doesn’t want us to wait more than four. The surgery nurse will call to set it up, probably tomorrow or Thursday.

6/10- 5:30 pm UPDATE:
Pretty decent scenario-
Liver biopsy should be back tomorrow. They are thinking that they can take the kidney, and get the mass in the liver as well. After we get the results back tomorrow, we will decide if/when surgery will be. He just said in the next few weeks.
He said that Wili is healthy enough to handle the surgery.
*****************************************************************
6/10 UPDATE: no answers as of yet.
The specialist said he’s less worried about the liver as there are common nodules that appear in a lot of older dogs.
They are doing a CT scan later this afternoon to get a better idea of what is in the kidney, and what types of treatments could be done. We’ll know more this evening.
He did say that he was glad that we caught it early, before any symptoms had started.

Weird update…
Last night, he started getting sick from both ends. DH had to take him to the emergency vet at 4am.
Vet said that it didn’t sound like it was related to the other issues they’d found, but sounded more like he got into something in our yard that had bacterial in it from all the rain we’ve had. He does like drinking standing water, if we don’t get to it to drain it fast enough. 🤦🏻♀️
Anyway, fluids and meds later, he’s on the mend. He has eaten a bit, and has kept it in, and barked at the grocery delivery guy. LOL
Crazy mutt.
TODAY’S UPDATE 5/30:
GREAT NEWS!!!
Wili’s chest is CLEAR!!! Now, to address the liver and kidney. Most likely getting imaging next week.
Thank God!!!🥰🐶🥰
OP:
We took him in for his annual visit a couple weeks ago, and all looked well, with the exception of his liver numbers. They weren’t super high (in the 400’s, instead of 100’s), so at his teeth cleaning today, they wanted to do an X-ray. They decided to skip the teeth cleaning since they didn’t see anything to be concerned about, and just did the X-ray. They found a 2mm mass in both his liver and kidney. We are scheduling a visit with a specialist to do a biopsy, and see if it has spread to his chest. If it has, there is nothing we can do. If it’s just in the liver and kidney, we could do non invasive treatment on the liver, and remove the kidney since he’s already 12.
UGH this really sucks. This is our second pup to get to this point, and I’m just not ready. 😢
