That goal by Christian Eriksen for Denmark brought tears to my eyes. To have come back 3 years after that horrific cardiac arrest and score the opening goal. His smile said it all. Slovenia did themselves proud though in the second half

We'll be rooting for Austria as that is where our son and his family live. Now I have to figure out the actual USA time of the games. This was the list for Austria's first 3 games. I got the list from FS1, which is American. The times also said ET which I'm assuming is Eastern Time zone, which is what I'm in. I'm confused because they are 6 hours ahead. That would mean that in their game today, they'd be playing at 9:00 at night, their time. That doesn't make any sense. Can someone help me with the correct times I would be watching, if these times are wrong. Thanks
Match 1/3 Austria vs France Today June 17 3:00PM
Match 2/2 Austria vs Poland Fri June 21 12:00 PM
Match 3/3 Austria vs Netherlands Tuesday June 25 12:00 PM

zuke they are playing in France, Germany at 9.00pm or 21.00. Here in the UK, being a hour difference, it's 8.00pm or 20.00 During the group stages, there are three games a day, shown here in the UK at the 14.00, 17.00 and 20.00.

zuke - yes, the late game each day is at 9pm German time. It’s a pretty normal time for important games to kick off here. Our regular season Friday night games are 8:30pm and European Champions League are 8:45 or 9pm.

wellway - not only am I in Germany, but Munich is a host city, so we are surrounded by it. The opening game is here and even on Wednesday, there were kilts all over town. I hadn't planned to go into the city today - in fact, I was planning on actively avoiding it - but I was called Wednesday to change my MRI from 2 weeks time to today, so in I went. It is total madness! German and Scottish flags everywhere, football shirts being worn with either Lederhosen or kilts and just a general air of excitement. This is the only German group stage game scheduled here - we also host Romania v Ukraine, Slovenia v Serbia and Denmark v Serbia as well a round of 16 and a semi final, where we obviously don't know who will be present. I will be supporting Germany - Australia is not in the Euros, so no conflict of interest, unlike the World Cup. The team I follow (Bayern Munich) has 5 players in the German team, 2 playing for France, and one each for Netherlands, Austria and England, so i have a lot of interest in other games as well. sueg my DD will be in Munich next week for her class and Dh and I were shocked that the school scheduled this tour during the Euros - I mean I know life goes on, but the city is going to be NUTS. LOL.

My goodness, that Belgium v. Slovakia match was very unexpected. Sometimes I hate VAR, usually for the same reasons I hate Instant Replay in American football, it goes against my team 😁
Good on Slovakia though, they held their nerve and got the big upset

Bridget in MD - Munich has games on Thursday this week and Tuesday next week, and neither involve Germany or Scotland, so it won’t be as crazy as last week. If they wanted to avoid the Euros, it would mean not travelling to nearly anywhere in Germany until after July 14, as games are being held in 10 different cities across the country, so they are probably just working around the schedule. The fans also tend to congregate in specific areas, and are not here sightseeing on the whole, so it is possible to minimise contact with them. I was in the city for a medical appointment last Friday, but only saw a few Scots, as we avoided the inner city/main town plaza and all Biergartens.

I felt the VAR was mixed yesterday - the first goal, Lukaku was definitely offside; I called it before the ref went to VAR. The second, I think they got wrong. It was called a handball, and while the video did suggest the ball touched his hand, it didn’t deflect at all and the angle was front on, so hard to see accurately.

I have to say the Belgium shirts were good at retaining sweat. I felt for the players, they can't have been comfortable to wear and play in. I know Aston Villa had the same issue last year. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66958595

She texted us last night and said her professor is a HUGE soccer fan, so he has plans for them to attend the Denmark game when they are there next week. They won't be in the stadium, but in the outside area with the big screens? He told them he is bringing facepaint. I told her to try to find a kit to wear. She will be in Munich and they are heading to Nuemburg too. Her class is called "Terrorism and Counterterrorism in the European Theater" so I suppose (unfortunately) Munich is a good place for a study tour since things happened there specifically related to that topic. Her minor is in Global Terrorism studies.

I've done a World Cup game in a biergarten and it was so much fun. The police here have said that there have been very few problems at the fan zones, mainly a few people who've had a bit much to drink getting rowdy. Her class sounds really interesting. I imagine they are probably going to the Documentation Centers in both Munich and Nuremberg and possibly the Nuremberg trials courtroom. Also in Munich you have the sites of the Olympic assassinations in 1972 and the Oktoberfest attack in 1980, both international acts of terrorism

DH is concerned at the craziness that could occur during the games just in general, and that was before we knew she was going to watch a match! I assume she will stick close to her professor/classmates. She is not much of a partier, and is actually embarrassed/frustrated bc she went to a food festival yesterday with some of the kids she met in her building and all they wanted to do was find bars and get drunk. I told her what they really probably want is a club atmosphere, and they weren't going to find that on a Monday in Denmark. BUT Midsummers is this weekend, although I hear it is not as celebrated as it is in Sweden. Her class sounds really interesting. I imagine they are probably going to the Documentation Centers in both Munich and Nuremberg and possibly the Nuremberg trials courtroom. Also in Munich you have the sites of the Olympic assassinations in 1972 and the Oktoberfest attack in 1980, both international acts of terrorism This is what I assume as well - and damn! I didn't realize there was an Oktoberfest attack too!
We went to Stockholm and then visited a friend about an hour south from the city. We had a lot of trouble buying train tickets and it turns out, the train system in Sweden has been experiencing a lot of fradulent charges, so they shut down all international credit card charges on the app. We could only buy in person, or with a Swedish credit card. So my friend bought our tickets and I went to the ATM and paid her back. I told her I felt bad to give her all this cash bc Sweden is mostly cashless, but she said she has been keeping some out in case of war. I was shocked she stated that so matter of factly, but obv Russia is a concern for them - while we were there a Russian plane crossed Finnish airspace, and then the next day, it crossed into Swedish airspace. So they were somewhat in high alert.

We were in Cologne last week the day there was a game (Swiss and Croatia?). All the eurocup crap really dampened the history and culture. The Cathedral lost a lot w big soccer balls, screens, etc all around the square. I'm glad I have pictures from 2019 wo all that.
We were in Amsterdam on Sunday when Netherlands was playing Poland. All the pubs, cafes, restaurants and house parties were in full force.
I was on a river cruise i earned through work. I didn't have a say on the dates or I would have avoided these

The sports broadcasting scene is terrible in the U.S. Most of the early morning (U.S time) matches are on one streaming service, then they switch to another service. I’d say roughly 50% of the matches are on free tv (with an antenna), the other 50% are thru paid subscription services. It’s an absolute mess trying to figure where and how to watch one tournament. During the French Open tennis, most of the matches were on Tennis Channel, until it switched for several hours on the weekends to a free with antenna channel, but then that channel would get you by putting the marquee match on their paid streaming service. I was lucky enough to already have that paid service because that’s who has the rights to the Premier League and the Olympics

England v Denmark
England were absolutely terrible. No energy, no plan. Kane a big disappointment, Foden playing in the wrong position. The players should be better, so much better. It was very frustrating to watch.

wellway - I just couldn’t believe how England played this evening. Before the tournament started, I thought they were one of the favourites, but I just can’t see them winning - or even making the semis - on that performance. I am so disappointed with how Kane has played in both matches. Being a Bayern Munich fan, I’ve been watching him all season and I know he’s better than that. I am also trying not to get too excited about Germany’s performance so far. It has exceeded what I thought going in, but there’s still a long way to go. But I’d rather be Nagelsmann than Southgate right now.

sueg, on the live feed on the BBC a fan asked if there was a word for really looking forward to a game and then when it starts really looking forward to it being over. I've haven't read one positive comment. Individually these guys are good but they looked worse than average tonight. The Turkey v Georgia is still my favourite game to date, passion, effort, end to end stuff, pride. Everything England wasn't, bear in mind I'm not English, I just wanted them to be their best versions and they were no where near. Spain v Italy to start in the next few minutes, hopefully the standard of football is better!

On games so far, I think Spain are looking good and Italy need to be less defensive. It is too risky to rely on scoring early then parking the team bus in front of goal. I didn’t watch all of Turkey v Georgia - I haven’t made it to the end of any of the late games, even the opener! What I saw was great, but I don’t think either of them have what it takes to win the tournament. Then again, there have been some ‘dark horse’ winners over the years, like Denmark winning in a year when they didn’t qualify, but got in after another country was forced to withdraw!

I only have to hear his name and I can see the penalty shootout. Funny how some events just stick with you. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c99942qkny4o

The three matches a day period is over. On to the last group games, only two games, both at the same time. Let's not forget all the football maths that entails.
Scotland have to pull it out of the bag just to be considered for a third place qualifier spot. That 5-1 loss to Germany will cost them dear.
Group A tonight at 20.00 BST
Switzerland v Germany Scotland v Hungary
