If you are a fan of sports, it will be a full schedule for the coming months, Euros then the Olympics with lots of events in between. The Euros kick off tonight with the opening game, Germany v Scotland at 20.00 gmt. Hoping for a great competition with good games, wonderful skills on show and top class refereeing. Anyone else going to follow the Euros? sueg?

JoP, Wales not in the Euros? did anyone tell Rishi?? /s. We have had the athletics, the Isle of Man races and cycling. When I say we, it's mainly dh, but I catch highlights when I sit down with a cuppa.

wellway - not only am I in Germany, but Munich is a host city, so we are surrounded by it. The opening game is here and even on Wednesday, there were kilts all over town. I hadn't planned to go into the city today - in fact, I was planning on actively avoiding it - but I was called Wednesday to change my MRI from 2 weeks time to today, so in I went. It is total madness! German and Scottish flags everywhere, football shirts being worn with either Lederhosen or kilts and just a general air of excitement. This is the only German group stage game scheduled here - we also host Romania v Ukraine, Slovenia v Serbia and Denmark v Serbia as well a round of 16 and a semi final, where we obviously don't know who will be present. I will be supporting Germany - Australia is not in the Euros, so no conflict of interest, unlike the World Cup. The team I follow (Bayern Munich) has 5 players in the German team, 2 playing for France, and one each for Netherlands, Austria and England, so i have a lot of interest in other games as well.

sueg, wonderful, the BBC are reporting on the Tartan Army turning up in numbers. I'm pretty neutral on the teams, just looking forward to a great competition.

I'm not planning on following the Euros religiously but I will no doubt watch matches here and there. The streets here are likely to be empty this evening and there is a flag in our window at work.

sueg , wonderful, the BBC are reporting on the Tartan Army turning up in numbers. It is almost 3:30pm here - kick off is at 9pm our time. Marienplatz - the main plaza outside the Town Hall - is packed and the Major has been down on the plaza speaking to fans from both sides. There is also a massive Fan Zone at the Olympic Park, and it is full already as well - they have a couple of big screens set up there. Many biergartens also have screens set up and will e hoping the decent weather we've had the past few days continues over the weekend. I can't imagine there is very much happening in Scotland today, as there entire population seems to be here!

I'll be watching! Our national team didn't make it this time, so I can support my all time faves (Italy&Portugal) without guilt.

Our household will be watching. We have today's game on our calendar so we wouldn't forget or make alternate plans. DW says she prefer Scotland to win. She's the footie fan in this house. I will watch if I'm in the room.

It's funny how you get so use to a studio set, most of the football tv programmes I've watched have the presenter on the left and the invited pundits on the right. Not this one, presenter on the right and the three pundits on the left, all standing. It's feels off!

American, married to a European, here! We are stoked for the Euros! Hubby is rooting for England, I'm underdog rooting for Ukraine, with special fondness for England and France.

Decent start by Germany. Happy to see one of my favourite young players on the scoresheet already! Said to dh, after five mins, the Scots are under stress and will concede a goal soon, the Germans are pressing so high. I actually thought the Germans would score a couple and then defend like mad. We'll see what second half brings.

Sports dork here. Are these Euros games only in Munich? We are getting ready to road trip thru Europe and wondering if we will run into traffic and the like everywhere we go.

Unfortunately for my DH, I follow sports year round. As he would say, many many, way too many sports 🤣
But big football tournaments are some of my favorites. And I love the Euros. I tend to root for England and Germany, both countries I’ve lived and where the bulk of my ancestors immigrated from. My area is headed into a big heat wave and that’s all the excuse I need to hide in my finished, much cooler basement and binge on sports.

Be aware that because of the Euros and the Olympics in Paris almost immediately after, that passport controls have been reinstated at some border points - at the moment coming into Germany but later also into France. Keep your passport handy while driving, preferably in the passenger compartment of the car, not in a bag in the trunk

Thank you sueg. That reminds me to look up the border controls for the places we're visiting.

Thank you sueg . That reminds me to look up the border controls for the places we're visiting. If you are staying within the Schengen zone - which is most likely if you are travelling mainly in western Europe - there are normally no border controls. I think (not positive here) that Romania and Bulgaria are the only EU countries on the Continent that are not Schengen. Ireland isn't but you can't drive to there! At this point, the border controls are only when you are driving (and possibly coming on a train) into Germany and I don't believe they are stopping all cars, but it will still slow you down a bit. This will continue until Mid-July. Any restrictions for the Olympics will be driving into France, and likely to start about a week before the start of the games. Anywhere else, you should be fine, though things can change at any time due to security reasons. Apart from during Covid and now, we haven't had to deal with this in the nearly 15 years we've been in Germany, so it's not a really common thing that you have to worry about.

So, four games over, sixteen goals, a very talented Spanish player who is only 16 and the fastest goal ever scored in the Euros, in 23 seconds.
The games today are
Poland v Netherlands 14.00
Slovenia v Denmark 17.00
Serbia v England 20.00
