I love sport but still wish that somehow all the competition was there and magically no one gets hurt. Especially because my first love is American football

mellyw, the most recent update from the Hungarian team is Several bones in Barnabas Varga's face were broken during the collision during the match, and he also suffered a concussion. Surgery is most likely to be expected. "He spends the night in the hospital in Stuttgart. The whole team is rooting for him!"

Bridget in MD - Munich has games on Thursday this week and Tuesday next week, and neither involve Germany or Scotland, so it won’t be as crazy as last week. If they wanted to avoid the Euros, it would mean not travelling to nearly anywhere in Germany until after July 14, as games are being held in 10 different cities across the country, so they are probably just working around the schedule. The fans also tend to congregate in specific areas, and are not here sightseeing on the whole, so it is possible to minimise contact with them. I was in the city for a medical appointment last Friday, but only saw a few Scots, as we avoided the inner city/main town plaza and all Biergartens. She texted us last night and said her professor is a HUGE soccer fan, so he has plans for them to attend the Denmark game when they are there next week. They won't be in the stadium, but in the outside area with the big screens? He told them he is bringing facepaint. I told her to try to find a kit to wear. She will be in Munich and they are heading to Nuemburg too. Her class is called "Terrorism and Counterterrorism in the European Theater" so I suppose (unfortunately) Munich is a good place for a study tour since things happened there specifically related to that topic. Her minor is in Global Terrorism studies. This article might be of interest to your dd. BBC Daniela Klette lived quietly. She walked her dog and gave maths tuition to her neighbours’ children. But when she was arrested in late February, the police found tens of thousands of euros in cash in her Berlin flat and five weapons, among them a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a replica rocket launcher. Klette, 65, had been on the run for more than 30 years. She was wanted for crimes connected to the left-wing militant Red Army Faction (RAF), which was active in Germany from the 1970s to the 1990s. Known in its early days as the Baader Meinhof group, the gang pursued their political aims through the kidnap or murder of senior members of the business and industrial communities. The RAF’s notoriety had led to a podcast team in Berlin trying to track Klette down using a facial recognition tool. The podcast ran shortly before Christmas, only weeks before the arrest. But police deny a connection. They say they had a tip-off from a member of the public. More in link www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crgggl1r2ypo

This is a report on the match, people can have their say underneath, you might be surprised how many comments are not complimentary about CR. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/cqllllkd73dt#PortugalOur commentators said that the Georgian team members were given the country's medal of honour for getting to the Euros, can't imagine the reception they will get for getting to the last sixteen. Thrilled for them. This is the second game of theirs that I've thoroughly enjoyed, v Turkey and now v Portugal.

I think the manager took him off before he earned himself a second yellow. He was so not happy with the first yellow! Lucky he didn't have the ref from the other game who handed out yellow and red cards like they were sweets. A new Euro record, it seems, 18.

The knock-out rounds started with a bang last night. Switzerland defeated the defending champions Italy in a well deserved win and are playing like a well-oiled machine. The Germany v Denmark game was interrupted by a massive thunderstorm, with marble sized hailstones pelting down onto the pitch. That's when I went to bed, as I didn't know how long the delay would be and I was sooo tired. I am still not 100% convinced of Germany's form overall, but sometimes all it takes is a bit of luck.

Germany v Spain is an absolute banger of a game. It’s a real pity these two teams are meeting in the quarterfinals - they have probably been the best teams so far and this should have been the final.

Couldn’t agree more. I made this appointment viewing knowing it may be better than the semi-final or final and it’s lived up to it.

What are the chances? BBC In 2007, a young Lionel Messi posed for photos with a baby in the dressing room of the Camp Nou in Barcelona for a charity calendar photoshoot. Messi, who was 20, was already making a name for himself and would go on the become arguably the greatest of all time. But little did the photographer know that the baby would also make waves in international football less than 17 years later. Messi was bathing Lamine Yamal - the 16-year-old who is taking the European Championships by storm. His goal against France in the semi-final on Tuesday is one that will be talked about for decades. At 16 years and 362 days, the strike also made him the youngest man to score in the tournament's history. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c7206gj5w28o

Of course, I am working for the entire final, unless it goes to extra time. I hope to see the Wimbledon men's singles final though.
