In Seattle and I’ve certainly heard of fry sauce but I couldn’t name a restaurant that carries it and calls it fry sauce. Most places have some sort of sauce, just not specifically the ketchup/mayo fry sauce.
We used to have a place called Arctic Circle that I think might have had one.

Never been to a shake shack and CFA has their sauce which is bbq sauce and Mayo. Sounds gross but it is so good you can buy it at the grocery store and I like it on breaded chicken or chicken Pattie’s at home. Raising Cane has a sauce similar to fry sauce. They add worcestershire sauce to theirs. I like dipping the chicken in it, but I don't use it for fries.

I'm in Nebraska, fry sauce isn't a thing here. There are chain specific sauces like Chick-FIL-A sauce, horsey sauce at Arby's, Cane's & Zaxby's sauces (which are the same thing to me). If I'm not at a chain with their own sauce, I'm usually doing ketchup or if they have mayo I'll do that. I'm also a big fan of the sauce that comes with an outback Bloomin Onion. I never ask for ranch if I have other options.

I have heard that it is just mayo and ketchup, but I don’t believe it. I have mixed just mayo and ketchup amd it isn’t the same. I’ve worked at 5 different restaurants here in Utah that made it in-house: At four of them it’s just ketchup and mayo. The fifth also had buttermilk and raw onions. Like I said, some places add something to make it their own, but most of the time it’s just ketchup and mayo.

You can easily make your own. Ask for a packet of ketchup and a packet of mayonnaise and mix them together. I’m not aware of any chains that have it in Virginia or Minnesota, but I don’t eat a lot of fast food and if I do have fries, I either have ketchup or eat them without sauce. I don’t agree with that at all. Clearly that is the base, but there is something else in it. There was a bit of sugar in McDonald's fry sauce. They had it in Colorado when I was in high school (early 80s). It came in the same type of container as nugget sauce and I *think* you could get it out od the pump thing. I used it for their hash browns. Freddy's has it now The only place I make my own is Chick fil a

Oregon here, and love fry sauce. There are 2 local burger joints near me (not chains) that have it. And those that said Arctic Circle, that was the first place I had it, almost 50 years ago! And yes, just mayo & ketchup. (I also don't like ketchup; but love fry sauce!).

Gennifer we used to live in Utah. It’s been 27 years though. Was introduced to fry sauce at The Training Table. My company has an office in South Jordan, which I go back to visit a couple times a year.

A local no longer exists fast food burger restaurant called Bob’s in my hometown (Oregon)had fry sauce and people still talk about it. I have never seen it anywhere except at the grocery store, but make my own:ketchup, mayo, and pickle juice.

There is a chain here called Lord of the Fries. They have sauces for their fries. There is a list of what you can get: SaucesThose are interesting. We have a place here that make Belgium Frites and they have a delicious curry Mayo. The place you linked looks delicious, but I don’t know anyone who puts bbq on fries. I usually order the sweet potato fries with the Indian sauce: "Our spicy vegan mango chutney and sour cream will have you singing Jai Ho!" My all time favourite fries are from a chain called Schnitz. I always have the fries with two sauces (that they actually call dips) - BBQ Relish, then either Sweet Chilli Mayonnaise or Chipotle Chilli Mayonnaise. I dip each chip into both sauces. Heaven! The BBQ relish sauce is to die for, and goes so well with fries.

I think Freddy's has it but I’ve never eaten it and had never heard of it before we went there. I don’t eat much fast food though so they could all have it and I wouldn’t know. I only want Heinz ketchup with my fries when I do eat them. I buy Freddy's at the grocery store (I’m in Illinois), and almost always use that if I’m dipping fries. I looked for it on the HEB app and they don’t have it. The only fry sauce they have is stir fry sauce. I guess it hasn’t made it here yet. Now I feel like I need to go to Freddy's and try it.

I live in Eastern Washington and one of our locally owned businesses has served fry sauce for as long as I can remember. There are also several places in the panhandle of Idaho that have it. Last summer, we ate at a burger joint on the Oregon Coast that had a regular and spicy version.

Now I feel like I need to go to Freddy's and try it. Is the place called Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers? I had to look it up and it looks like there are a couple in San Diego County. And the menu does have Fry Sauce on it. May have to go try it out. Are the steakburgers good?

It's been so long ago since i tasted theirs, I don't really recall what my opinion of it was other than, okay, but not a big fry dipper. I believe the original is the one the OP mentions and that is Artic Circle. I have not tasted that one.

Ketchup + mayo = Thousand Island Dressing 😊
Or dip dip as my grandkids call it 😊

Well that is what I usually make to put on my burger…ketchup, Mayo, Worcestershire sauce a little onion powder.
I agree with anyone who said it is basically 1000 island dressing and will use that on my burger also.
Fry Sauce is not a normal thing in my area of New England. I have heard of it and there are a lot of small/local restaurants that offer a lot of different sauces and condiments. These seem to be a favorite (at least for me) part of most peoples’ dinning experience.

I've heard of it. Never had it. I'd probably like it, though. I usually put hot sauce on my fries at home.
My favorite sauce for dipping is Raising Cane's sauce. So good. It goes on the chicken, the fries, and I use the bread to get the last tiny bit.

I've never seen it in the States - both DH and I remember it fondly from Germany though Interesting - I live in Germany and was coming here to say I'd never heard of it. Most places here do either ketchup or mayo.

That is crazy. California is so big, maybe it is regional within the state? Shake Shack is all over the coast, they for sure have it. That is the only chain that I know has it. I think CFA has some variation of it, but I don’t eat there. I have been eating it in California for over 30 years. Never been to a shake shack and CFA has their sauce which is bbq sauce and Mayo. Sounds gross but it is so good you can buy it at the grocery store and I like it on breaded chicken or chicken Pattie’s at home. CFA sauce is BBQ, ranch and honey mustard

Gotta love me some fry sauce, but it is more than just ketchup/mayo mix... because there are some yucky fry sauce.
Freddy's chain has it and it is good. Burger King does and yuck. Chick Fil A Sauce (to me) is like a fry sauce... my favorite. Raising Cains not really a fan (but they consider it sauce for their chicken)
Then in the grocery store you can find a ton of it in the condiment isle by the ketchup/mustard.
I know I have had it in more places but coming to a blank.
This in in CO.

I also have never heard of fry sauce (born and raised in Pittsburgh, now live in the DC area). But when I googled I recognized it immediately. lol. My dd makes her own, but I'm not sure if she got the idea from eating out somewhere or if she just made it up.
Despite being from Pittsburgh, the Home of Heinz, I dip my fries in mayonnaise.

Some places that have it in Minnesota are the chains Freddy’s, Red Robin, shake shack. There are also several brands that carry it that are sold at the grocery store.

My Step Brothers movie fans will recognize fry sauce as Brennon's "Fancy Sauce" aka ketchup and mayo mixed together.
My family is a huge fan of both the movie and the sauce!
We make our own at home. Our favorite fast food sauce is Cane's sauce.

Ha ha ha. I’ve seen this thread a hundred times and always thought it was about a sauce that you fry things in. I like crinkle cut fries with only salt. No sauce. 😊
