I’m so sorry! I had it on my face and in my eye. Take it VERY seriously. You could lose vision if you don’t. I had to see the ophthalmologist once a week for a couple of months, but had no lasting affects. If you’ve already started antivirals, you may not have a lot of pain. I caught mine early (thanks to a very observant urgent care doc). I never got a lot of pain…just flu-like symptoms for a couple of days.

I'm so sorry. Mine wasn't on my face, it was on my bra-line. My only suggestion is to get the pain meds if it's something that's possible. I said no because I didn't want them, but then regretted it and had to call back later to get them. Luckily, I only needed them for 2 days...but they made a huge difference.

They did prescribe pain meds in case I need them. So far I’ve only needed Ibuprofen.
The eye doc scheduled me for a follow up on Friday. My primary doctor is out for three weeks, but I see another doctor at the same office on Wednesday. I’m going to be a pro at doctor appointments after this is all over.

I hope it’s a mild case and you feel better soon! And I just remembered I need my second shot before the end of the month!

It’s too bad most insurance companies won’t cover the shingles vaccine until you’re much older. Don’t really understand it, but at least I got the vaccine a couple of years ago.

Oh my gosh I am so sorry! I ended up with shingles right before turning 50. like it couldn't wait till I got the vaccine! Any way, I really made sure I took the anti-viral every 8 hours without fail. Like got up in the middle of the night to take the third daily dose. I was very lucky it was just on my side of my torso, but friend who is an ophthalmologist has told me some of the bad cases she has seen. I hope you caught it in time and it doesn't spread. The lingering pain lasted almost a year for me though and my doctor did say some people do continue to have the nerve pain/damage.

Thank you for asking. I’m hanging in there. The pain part is manageable so far. I did take one pain med last night around 3:00 am, but haven’t needed more today. I took the day off work. The rash on my eye is right in the lid so it’s painful to blink. But it’s not bad is I don’t blink. :-)

Ugh! I hope the meds kick in. I had chickenpox really bad when I was a kid and as soon as I turned 50 I got the vaccine. I go next month for the 2nd shot. I hope to avoid shingles as it sounds horrible. Same. Good luck on your 2nd shot. It was a doozy for me but totally worth it. I have not had the shingles, but I was getting viral labyrinthitis which the doctor suspected was related to the same virus. I have not had any signs of it since getting the vaccine. oh my gosh, ME TOO! I never get sick/affected by shots of any kind but the second actually made my eyes water. And then I was sick for two days after. Again, still worth it. I'm so sorry you got diagnosed, I hope it's a mild case and avoids your eye, it sucks! My first outbreak was at around 22 in my rib/breast area. It burned and was prickly and I had no idea what it was. The doctor diagnosed me but didn't prescribe anything, it lasted for months! The second and third outbreak was right across my neck, in my early 30's. Because of my first experience I didn't bother seeing the doctor. Instead I read my mom's Home Remedy book and it recommended the amino acid L-Lysine and so I bought a bottle and it seemed to help, my outbreaks were much shorter in duration. As soon as I was eligible I got the vaccine, I was so scared to get it again at my age. Keep us updated on your condition, I hope it's all good news.

So sorry to hear you have shingles. Best advice is to get into the eye Dr since it's so close to your eye, which you're already doing.
When my DH had it and it was traveling towards his eye, we were sent to a specialist, the name escapes me now. He was put on pain meds and was so thankful for them. I don't think there's much else you can do. He spent a lot of time sleeping.

Since you have the Rx at an early stage, it should be a light case for you.
Hope you recover quickly. I have had them 3 times, and each time the outbreak was smaller/less. This was before the vaccine was created. I have not bothered with the vaccine as I think I have all the antibodies one could have at this stage of my life.

I’m so sorry. I haven’t had them but know they are absolutely miserable. My sister had them on her face and near her eyes and it was horrible. She was a NICU nurse and couldn’t work for quite awhile. Both vaccine shots kicked my butt but I'm glad I got them. I hope you have a very mild case and feel better soon!

Mine wasn't on my face, it was on my bra-line. I had it along my bra line as well just on the left side. I ran to urgent care the moment I had symptoms as I was leaving the next day on a girls' trip to Boston. I started on the anti-viral right away but did not take any pain meds. I did skip wearing a bra for a few days as it was simply too uncomfortable. This thread is a good reminder to go get the dang shingles vaccine. Hope you recover quickly cmpeter with no lasting effects.

Yuck! I’m so sorry! I was just reading an article yesterday about how shingles is becoming so much more common at younger ages, due to chicken pox being less prevalent due to the vaccine. So, if our kids got the CP vaccine, does that mean since they didnt get CP, they should get the shingles vaccine earlier than 50? And if we got regular CP, do we just wait until we are 50 to get it? I had CP as a kid, so when I had kids that needed the shot, I was shocked - like why wouldn't you just let them get CP? I ended up getting it for them bc apparently my mom, who they were around a LOT, had a very mild case of the CP, and I am not sure the shingles vax was invented at that time. I think they got it now tho.

Oh no, I hate this for you. I had them in March and they are still bothering me every day. I had them on my right side, wrapped around like under my breast and to my spine. Like exactly half of my body, right where your bra lays. They were extremely painful and kind of itchy in the worst way. I got on antivirals the day after I discovered my rash but I literally was in bed with ice packs for almost 3 whole days. I couldn't wear a bra for weeks. Even now, I have itching and bolts of pain in areas. The whole area of my skin where the rash is feels kind of numb, like if you have a scar and touch it, that kind of numb. Shingles are just the strangest thing.
I hope you have a mild case and there in no involvement with your eye. Keep us updated.

(just curious) Because the medical community thinks it is rare to have shingles more than once, and very rare to have had them 3 times. One doctor told me it was impossible to have them twice. The 3rd time, when the physician diagnosed shingles, I told her I was making medical history then. She replied that she would have to look that up. Of course she didn't report back to me on what she found. DH was telling his physician and that doctor gave him statistics on how the outbreaks get smaller each time.
Twice the outbreaks were on my face and the 3rd time on my abdomen, just above my waist.

Makes sense. I thought it could flare at any time since it kinda hibernates in your nerve tissue near the spine. i wonder if you had immunity titers done if it would show immunity. I had mine done when I kept miscarrying years ago and they found my German measles immunity was nonexistent so I had to get revaxxed.

ask elaine about having shingles more than once. She is the expert. I had shingles at age 33 or so and got the shots as soon as I turned 50. It was awful having shingles. The shots made me very sick, too. I do have an Rx for the drugs in case it happens.

The fun part of my saga is that I have never had the chicken pox. On doctor thinks the virus must have entered my body when my son had chicken pox when he was about 6.

My GP misdiagnosed DS with hand, foot &mouth and it was actually chicken pox. (DS needed a blood test and I wanted to check his immunity). We also had a rockstar pediatrician.

My dad and brother had them 3x. My brother is only 50 so he could get them again. I have a friend that they erupt every few months. At times she’s taking anti-virals for months at a time. So maybe not so rare. 🤷♀️

I never had any of the typical childhood diseases despite the fact that as a 63 y/o now, there were several going around when I was a child. Only two of my four boys had chickenpox. One was even in the tub and the bed with his two brothers who did have it. But I did get (fairly mild) shingles. And I really do need to get the shingles vaccine.

I had the typical Shingrix reaction . First shot i did feel yucky for a couple days. 2nd shot really made me feel rotten, but it's a heck of a lot better than Shingles. I hope that you don't have it and that your cellulitis responds quickly to the antibiotic.
