a bbq at our house on the 4th but bright and early on the 5th, DH and are are putting up wainscoting in one of the hallways. that's an all weekend project because we still have to pain and prime. it's going to be a hot weekend too. . we may have to rethink those plans. but at least there is the bbq on the 4th.

We live on Lake Huron and host a very large party from July 3-7, topping off at 32 people in the 4th, of which 29 will be sleeping here. On the 4th we always have ribs and cheesy potatoes for dinner. The day will be spent at the lake, playing games, floating, boating, talking, and drinking. Oh wow. I used to live on Lake Huron for 20 years. Between Port Huron and Lexington. Now I live in Texas. Sorry Texas, no offense - but these are not real lakes. I miss Michigan. I live in Michigan and you are right. Once you have seen the Great Lakes, others pale in comparison!

Also, it is even too hot to be at the lake right now for me!!

Probably down the hill to watch the fireworks. We'll have a party on Saturday.

Since the reversal of roe vs wade I haven’t been able to celebrate the 4th in the same way. I wasn’t feeling it despite having an in depth understanding of the meaning of the holiday and its significance to our country. I kept having this internal conflict about celebrations when I know our country isn’t free for everyone and hasn’t been in many ways preceding the decision.
So instead of going to parades etc. I’ve been volunteering on this day. People still live in shelters on holidays and many of the staff and services usually available to residents are unavailable due to the holiday. It’s my way of celebrating that lets me feel like I’m doing something good that aligns with my values.
I’m in no way knocking anyone that celebrates and I don’t consider myself unpatriotic. I think wanting true freedom is patriotic even if it’s idealistic. I also support anyone celebrating our country’s independence and hope you’re having a wonderful and fun day.
I wasn’t going to post but I truly do want everyone to have a happy holiday and I want anyone who may have mixed feelings despite loving their country to know it’s ok to celebrate in a way that honors who you are.

My 8 year old, living his best summer life at his friends house down the street, isn’t interested in fireworks so we will probably not go to the neighbors as planned since he hasn’t hung out with their kid in a few weeks. I’m thinking of running to get some sparklers and calling it good.

Well after a stay at the hospital (ds) we aren't doing anything. He came down with Rhinovirus and it caused some not so pleasant GI issues. He is doing better but I came down with it and now dd is starting to not feel well. She got her infusion today (day late due to hospital stuff) so that should help a lot.
Going to ask dh to grab In n Out for dinner.

It’s beastly hot today. We’re going to hang around the pool, cook out, and watch the fireworks from our patio. We’re across the river from where they shoot them off so we have a perfect view and can even see some from the next town over. I’m making Asian cole slaw —family favorite—and razzleberry cobbler with ice cream—red white and blue themed dessert.

We work in a manufacturing plant that "never closes" .... we do get Easter Thanksgiving and the plant is closed from Christmas eve until Jan 2...
But all other holidays... if your scheduled to work... then you work... unless you use vacation days...
Sooooo we work 4,5,6 n 7....
Its fine.... double overtime for today... plus holiday.... so big bucks for 1 day
