QOTD: What is your favourite type of paper crafting challenge or prompt? What makes it your fav?
My absolute favorite is scraplift telephone. It's a game and a challenge I played a few times in Paper Issues Facebook group. Scraplifting & Sketches are my favorite challenges but I love the game element. We were divided into teams and put in order of when we'll receive the layout we have to scraplift. Each team starts with the same layout that only the first in line sees, they scraplift it and then pass their layout to the next person and so on. When everyone is done, all of the layouts are shared and it's fun to see how much the layouts changed from one person to the next.
To answer part B of the QOTD - I like scraplifts and sketches because it helps me with the design element of making a layout.

QOTD: How many of your IRL friends or family also do scrapbooking? I don't know a single other person IRL who does scrapbooking, either traditional or digital. I have one friend who dabbled a bit, many years ago, but it didn't last long. I would love to have someone to scrap with. I started scrapbooking when my sister got me to go to a CM evening crop around 1997. For years we did huge show and evening crop weekend in Portland Oregon together. That was back when there were LSS and stamp stores. We did LSS crops and when I moved to Central Oregon in 2004 they would come to retreats and crops held on my side of the mountains. Once Covid hit, that was the end of all that, and things were dying away anyway. Now that I am in MN I have not yet found anyone to scrap or make cards with close by. I'm on a FB group that is in the US for scrapbook/crafting retreats. Now that things are settling down post move, I might think about going to one? No LSS close by, maybe the Twin Cities. The one in St. Cloud closed a few months after I moved here, before I found them. They retired QOTD: What is your favourite type of papercrafting challenge or prompt? What makes it your fav? Most likely sketches for scrapbooking. For card making it would be themes, where I can play with techniques.
Inlaws are here, and FIL is just sitting watching TV. He is supposed to go fishing with DH and DS. There is some dementia problems, along with a bad back. For me it is really frustrating with SIL asks if any fishing happens. Only plus of this visit is SIL/BIL drove them all the way here, we don't have to do the shuttle. I am looking for my servant heart, as I'm not real happy with DH's decision to invite them despite the last 9 days we've had with his back pain. VENT here: BIL asked them "why don't they just keep clothes here?" on the drive up. What prompted that I have no clue! This is my year round home, and they are guests. I do not want their belonging in my home when they are not here. ACKKKKK.
Almost time to cook dinner for everyone. Maybe I'll craft tomorrow?

Hallelujah, it is finally the weekend! The new girl that I have been training is soooo good, she has caught on really quickly. I'm thinking that I might get her to come into the office on Monday and Tuesday, then work from home for the rest of the week. I do NOT want to have to travel into town every day next week. How did I used to do it pre-COVID?! Mind you, Monday is going to be so busy trying to catch up after the Microsoft global outage yesterday. I got the dreaded blue screen of death at about 3:30pm, just as I had started working on six important tasks. Then one by one, most of my colleagues were struck down as well. Anyway, now I can go through and read this thread properly, and answer some of grammadee's QOTDs. QOTD: If you had an unexpected half a day just to play, how would you spend it?I would be excited to do lots of scrapping, but no doubt I would spend way too much time Peaing instead! QOTD: What is your best time to craft: weekends or week days? Why?I love the weekends when I have no morning plans, and I can sit on the couch or outside (in warmer weather) and spend a few hours Peaing and scrapping. I do a lot of scrapping at night, pretty much every night, while I'm sitting on the couch watching TV. QOTD: What are the ideal conditions for you to be creative? And what are your usual conditions?Hmmm, I guess the ideal conditions are when there is no housework or chores to be done, and I can sit and scrap without guilt. Mind you, I prioritise scrapping over housework most of the time anyway! QOTD: What is your favourite type of papercrafting challenge or prompt? What makes it your fav?Definitely scraplift challenges, followed by sketches and (digital) template challenges. I also like photo prompts. The Lilypad has heaps of great challenges every month, including photography challenges. These ones are easier for digital scrappers, because we can take the photos and scrap them right away, and not have to wait to get photos printed.

(((Hugs))) Do they live with/near your SIL/BIL? are these visits perhaps a respite opportunity for SIL/BIL from the day to day concerns/care of your ILs? Do your ILs perhaps need some home health care or other assistance to carry some of the care burden? Especially if your FIL is dealing with dementia. I wonder if the comment about clothes comes from an area of stress - that maybe your ILs need more help packing than they used to? and more help in general? I'm guessing if you find their visits a bit overwhelming, SIL/BIL are probably also finding day to day overwhelming. Does your DH usually step up and help with the extra work his parents visiting provides? Obviously with the back pain, that might not be possible this visit but if he doesn't usually, it might be time to let him know you need him to. Prayers for your ILs and the whole situation. Aging parents isn't easy on anyone.

Linda DH (later me)lived near them for 25 years. They moved to DH's area and had a house built there before we were married. We did all of the medical and hospital visits, care for their home, etc. the last few years. When we prepared to move we asked ILs if they would move 3xs and got "no we are not moving" answers. Told SIL we had really tried to get them to understand. SIL barged in and said you are moving close to me and found them an apartment in a 55+ community. Honestly if it had been me, it would have been a community that had step up care as they continued to age. She really didn't realize where they were at mentally, physically, or even emotionally. The move was pushed up as SIL changed her employment, and MIL did garage sales every weekend. It was really hard on FIL. They drove from OR to MN by themselves. As they knew it would be their last cross country drive. They actually did fine. But the last year has been a downhill for them both of them, more so for FIL. SIL wanted them near her, so she is responsible for many things. But less than we were when we lived 1/4 mile away. FIL dementia is more than MIL's; they cannot make to drive on their own from the cities. MIL does short trips around their apartment. ILs work full time, and usually only see them on an occasional Sunday. BIL has not been to their apartment since they moved in. SIL does go over, but I don't know how frequently. MIL does their packing, and often over packs. She likes coming here because she doesn't have to cook or shop. DH has only helped with the additional shopping load etc once in the 3 times they've been here this summer. Last summer/fall they spent more than 21 days in our home, the first stint of 10 days just 8 days after our move in in June. MIL has announced that when SIL/BIL move to Florida they are moving closer to us. Which is fine. That was actually DH's original plan . . . . I will visit them regularly, help as needed. Yes, I watched my mother (and helped) as my father aged and passed away at 95 after 7 years of Alzheimers in Jan '22. I know a long explanation.

QOTD: How many of your IRL friends or family also do scrapbooking? I have a couple of IRL friends who scrap, but they don't live anywhere near me, and are people I met through online scrappy groups. QOTD: What is your favourite type of papercrafting challenge or prompt? What makes it your fav? I really enjoy sketch challenges because I've been struggling to get started with pages and they give me that starting point. I also love stash challenges that have me pulling things out that I might not have used in a while.

(((Hugs)))) angel97701 - that all sounds very hard. Please, once your DH is feeling better, have a discussion with him about how these visits will look going forward and how you'll need him to help (be specific - I know with my dh he requires being told I need you to do x, y, and z rather than I need you to help more) so that the visits are better/easier for everyone (meaning you).

That sounds hard angel97701, especially if some family members are not on the same page as others. I hope things get a little easier and your DH get some relief for his back pain. I finished up the crochet cell phone pouch last night. I’m trying to get some things finished and off my list! (Story of my life). I got some strawberries transplanted into pots I was given and photographed some pewter and milk glass things I’m supposed to sell. Much more fun than all that, I cut into a new Christmas collection and started gluing things down. And I finished some simple Christmas cards! QOTD - I like sketches for cards, but also enjoy starting from a theme or color scheme here and there. For scrapping I prefer just to do my own thing since I am mostly just placing photos into simple templates.

Absolutely wonderful summer day at the lake today! I went out to paddle in the nice smooth water this morning, DH finally got his parents to at least come down to the dock. He tried to swim, but just hanging in the water was soothing. MIL/FIL didn't last long on the dock. FIL never wanted to go fishing. After a few cards games I announced we were going for a boat ride. We putted around the lake and enjoyed some fresh air and time on the water. Hanging in there. DH's back is still not cooperating, he needs help his shoes and socks. At about 10%, but at least he can walk

Oh poop, I forgot to post my QOTD last night! But at least it's still "today" up there, and not "tomorrow" like it is here, so I'm not really late! I went to the football yesterday (Saturday), and took some photos. I don't really enjoy scrapping photos from the football, because my team Hawthorn has the worst colours - brown and yellow - otherwise known as poo and wee hahaha!! I don't have many kits that I can use if I want to match the photos. I usually add some navy or pink to the brown and yellow, to make it a bit nicer. QOTD: What is your LEAST favourite colour or colour scheme? Do you ever use that colour, even if you don't like it, but it works for the photos?

He tried to swim, but just hanging in the water was soothing. I'm sorry to hear that your DH is still struggling. I remember when I hurt my back one time when we were away at the beach for a week. The only thing that gave me any relief was floating in the ocean. I'm glad that your DH was able to soothe his pain the same way.

I have a really hard time with a pastels color scheme. I would only work with them if there is a pastel color in a patterned paper in a color scheme I like or if it’s part of a tone on tone thing.

QOTD: What is your LEAST favourite colour or colour scheme? Do you ever use that colour, even if you don't like it, but it works for the photos? My intermediate school uniform was brown, camel, and golden yellow, and the boys wore a weird shade of khaki, like a grey taupe, and I feel your pain. I look awful in those colors and I dislike using them immensely. And then I went to a high school with bottle green and red uniforms... sigh. Good for Christmas, and at least I don't look sick in those colors, but why couldn't I go to the school with navy blue and white uniforms, just once? My MIL has brick orange shag carpet and a big blue sofa, which makes Christmas photos really ugly IMO. My house has a lot of honey woodwork and beige carpets, so even photos at home are not really the colors I enjoy. I don't do much with color in my photo book albums. I mostly just place big photos on black and white pages, so the colors in the photos are the photos of the pages. I guess that's easier than trying to mix green and red supplies with blue and orange photos, but I do envy people with bright homes and maybe a single surface that's not piled with colorful clutter...

joblackford - your to-do list sounds like mine - endless with new things added anytime I cross something off. Glad you made some progress angel97701 - I'm glad you had a better day with lovely summer weather and water time. Sorry your dh is still in pain but that's good that the water helped. Hang in there AussieMeg - that does sound like a challenging colour scheme OTD: What is your LEAST favourite colour or colour scheme? Do you ever use that colour, even if you don't like it, but it works for the photos? I'm not sure I have a least favourite colour/colour scheme as far as scrapping goes. I do find pastels a bit harder to work with but I'm not sure if its the colours or the fact that I rarely have photos that need pastels?

QOTD: What is your LEAST favourite colour or colour scheme? Do you ever use that colour, even if you don't like it, but it works for the photos? Hello, AussieMeg in TomorrowLand! Not a fan of pastels. And don't use pinks at all unless the photos scream for it. And I don't use browns unless for background for fall leaves, or woodgrain for specific purposes.
BTW, Linda, I would not think to pair blue and yellow, but your last couple of pages do a great job of that.

Thanks grammadee - I love blue and yellow together. Around here blue and orange are much more popular due to our proximity of Univ. of Florida whose colours are blue and orange and that has spoiled that combo for me a little.

Going to be around more today--my family have all retreated to their own homes--but want to pop this in before I forget. (Having family in the house for a week has turned my brain to mush LOL). Lots of cool questions on the GS board. I want to go check those out today, hope you do, too, and thought this QOTD should be a little different...
I just started watching this season's Big Brother. This week, contestants were timed as they had to repeat a sequence of colours, unscramble words, find and plug in computer components, and move a disk through a maze without using hands.
What if we had a scrapbook retreat as a reality TV show? It could have teams, challenges, obstacle courses, timed events, and devious game play... QOTD: In the imaginary reality TV competition, 2-PEAS BOOK-IT, what would our timed obstacle course look like?

Yep those would be hard colors to use in scrapbooking. I do like to match my colors to the photos as well. All of the sports teams I've followed and scrapped have fun color combos. Now I would say my alma mater Oregon State University colors Orange and Black are not my favorite--but obviously they have grown on me over the years!

QOTD. Colors. I rarely use pastels. I can’t rethink if other combos but some of the ones mentioned were pretty bad and glad I didn’t have to deal with those combos of uniforms or furniture. Love blue with yellow or orange.
No ideas on timed challenges other than the type of ones we have. I join some that are a weekend long And there will be a color, shape, technique and a couple of things from your stash like embelishments that are specified by type like metals or ribbons or washi.

Your race sounds awesome, angel97701! Yours sounds like a cool goal for our imaginary players, Scrapper100, but to add BB type craziness, maybe contestants each go into each OTHER's craft room to find the elements? After the morning I had, I am going to put in one task for 2-PEAS BOOK-IT: locate a set of 8 photos out of mixed piles of various scrappy materials, including about one hundred other random photos.

QoYesterD: I don't scrap much, mostly a card maker. I think I don't like working with super-bright colors. This is why I tend to struggle with Cards for Cubs -- I feel like BRIGHT! screams YOUNG! but somehow I don't choose really bright colors, even in birthday patterned papers. I've been trying to choose some things lately that go against type for that specific purpose, so we'll see how it goes as we approach March.

I like the game ideas so far, although I think I would fail at using all those old school tools! I would include some color matching - maybe finding coordinating colored cardstock to go with a patterned paper. Cutting paper to specific sizes and gutting a 12x12" paper with a trimmer. Maybe a bit of fussy cutting or cutting paper into boxes or into strips with scissors like Shimelle does. (I'd fail that too!)

angel97701 IMPRESSIVE ideas for a competition. QOTD: In the imaginary reality TV competition, 2-PEAS BOOK-IT, what would our timed obstacle course look like? Here are my ideas: Teams of two where one person has a completed project and has to describe it to the other person so they can duplicate it without seeing the original. A relay where each person does a different part in succession with no idea what the the previous person intended.

I’m getting my DSLR ready to gift to my nephew who is studying photography at school this coming year. It’s going to be his 15th birthday present and I’ll probably give him some extra lenses for Christmas.
I had to literally dust it off, so clearly I’m not using it enough. I told myself I could grab it to take photos of hummingbirds in the garden except that the battery was always dead because I never use it any more. (And I don’t really need pictures of birds.) I haven’t taken it on a trip in 5 years and I never even take it to family gatherings any more. So even though there’s a part of me that feels like I’m giving away a precious treasure, I think that at this point he will get far more out of it than me.
Does anyone else have a “good” camera gathering dust because they only use their phone camera these days? What camera do you love?
