I’m getting my DSLR ready to gift to my nephew who is studying photography at school this coming year. It’s going to be his 15th birthday present and I’ll probably give him some extra lenses for Christmas. I had to literally dust it off, so clearly I’m not using it enough. I told myself I could grab it to take photos of hummingbirds in the garden except that the battery was always dead because I never use it any more. (And I don’t really need pictures of birds.) I haven’t taken it on a trip in 5 years and I never even take it to family gatherings any more. So even though there’s a part of me that feels like I’m giving away a precious treasure, I think that at this point he will get far more out of it than me. Does anyone else have a “good” camera gathering dust because they only use their phone camera these days? What camera do you love? I donated a dslr that was relevant circa 2008 when we moved last year. I had a couple lenses that went with it. I hadn’t used it in at least a decade. It was just taking up space. No regrets. I’ve thought about getting a small camera but have been pleased enough with phone cameras that I don’t think I ever will. I’m sure your nephew will be thrilled to have your beloved camera.

joblackford - I do still use my dslr - mainly when I travel or to capture local wildlife. Everyday photos are with the phone camera though. Our family is a camera family though. DH, DS32, DD24, and DD17 all have their own dslr and they use them - especially when travelling or going somewhere scenic locally. When we are all together, there are often an awful lot of photos between five cameras and five phones, lol

I use a flip phone with a crappy camera. i take my card photos with my iPad. I have a little Canon (I think) digital camera. I don't use it enough, but I took it to Italy a couple years ago. The iPad, even though it's a mini, is much to awkward for touristy picture taking.

I use both dslr and iPhone to capture photos.
I like the phone for quick impromptu snaps, mainly cuz it’s usually right by my hand. I also love how easily photos can be shared between phones.
I prefer the sports mode on my Canon for action shots. I also love using the viewfinder. It stabilizes the camera in a 3 point hold (two hands and my head) and is easy to see even in bright sunlight when the phone screen is next to invisible. I now have a card reader that plugs into my iPhone so I can share camera pics, just not instantaneously.

Yep, I have a DSLR collecting dust. It's not even that old so I feel bad about that. I still have a small point and shoot that takes pretty decent pictures but I haven't used it for a while.

I don’t use it often but I do still have a DSRL. I use it to take pictures of flowers in the backyard and birds that visit snd a few weeks ago some baby squirrels in our backyard. We haven’t traveled in years so this is as exciting as it gets around here.
I do use my phone but it’s an older phone and it’s not the best camera but I don’t always want to carry my big camera.

What camera do you love? grammadee can I use joblackford's question as my QOTD that I forgot to ask yesterday?! I still have my DSLR collecting dust, and DSO's SLR which by now is probably covered in ten layers of dust! Every now and then I pull out my DSLR if I want to take some decent photos of the kids playing football, or need to use a decent zoom lens. But I don't think I use it more than once or twice a year these days. When we went overseas last year, I agonised over whether to take it or not. I decided against taking it, and honestly, I didn't miss it at all.

Haha AussieMeg. I didn’t get a question in this morning, either. Adding a simple one now… QOTD: What’s the next scrappy project—big or small—in your plans?I just printed a bunch of pics of family at the farm. First thing I want to create is my July calendar page.

QOTD: What’s the next scrappy project—big or small—in your plans? I have a few half finished layouts on the go, for various team challenges here. One for the Thrillseeker theme, one for the Run Wild theme, and one for the July Donna Challenge.

My film SLR is from 1977, all manual nothing digital. I got it when I was in Japan and it is a collectors item. It is in a box and was moved to MN. My last DSLR was a Cannon and I loved it but it finally died and was not as high of resolution as my current phone. I don't really have a need for a DSLR now that DS is no longer in school sports.
QOTD: To finish my Hawaii album from Nov 2021. But the scrapping mojo needs to hit me first. Card making has been my jam recently.
DH is slowly recovering, he's at about 25% of normal. Taking short walks three times a day. PT tomorrow. He's able to get his sock and shoes on by himself. YEAH! Tigger kitty went with us a noon, followed us down the road meowing. Really hilarious! Hope he doesn't venture out there without us, and thankful it is a road used by only residents on our street.

QOTD: What’s the next scrappy project—big or small—in your plans I got more photos in the mail yesterday so I've been sorting and labelling them so my next project is to finish that. I also want to keep plugging away at my back-log of Shimelle classes. Today was a rough day though...dh has covid, dd17's flight was delayed, delayed, delayed, delayed, and finally cancelled. They couldn't get another flight (for 4) to any airport in north or central Florida this WEEK so they are driving home from Minneapolis. Thankfully there are two adult drivers to share the driving and they were able to extend their rental (since there were NO rentals at the airport).

Cardmaking, I’m working on some Christmas cards with a really classic theme. I told my SIL about giving nephew the camera and she seemed excited and thought he would be too. I have started getting it ready to mail. I do still have a vintage SLR and a small collection of other antique and vintage cameras and some film so if I want to get creative I can.

We were lucky that half of our airport traffic is on Alaska Airlines, which wasn’t impacted, and the airport systems weren’t either. My friends were flying out of SeaTac that morning (on Alaska) and didn’t feel like it was too bad, but we saw people still queuing for hours at the Delta counter on the news last night.

Next project will be creating a layout to go along with my hosting of Sketchy Saturday this weekend. I have a sketch picked out and know what I'm going to be scrapbooking. I need to print the photos and get to creating. Meanwhile my desk is covered in a christmas project. I don't think I will finish it before switching to the SS layout. Linda I hope your DH is feeling better soon and DD is seen home safely.

My answer to the previous question about what projects we currently have on the go made me think of another question.
QOTD: Do you usually finish one layout/project before starting the next one, or do you usually have several layouts/projects on the go at once?
I usually finish one layout before I start the next one. But as I mentioned earlier, I am currently working on a few layouts at once. I don't like having several on the go at once!

For the most part, I finish a layout before moving on to the next one. I think I have about 4 or 5 pages I started and never went back to.
Bigger projects, I'll stop and start and finish over time.

DK spotted this young friend as we were about to pull into the garage after I picked them up from work yesterday evening:
EtA re: QotD, I'm a card maker; I got nothin' for layouts. Projects?! Well, I generally have several of those in progress at once.

Today was a rough day though...dh has covid, dd17's flight was delayed, delayed, delayed, delayed, and finally cancelled. Thankfully there are two adult drivers to share the driving and they were able to extend their rental (since there were NO rentals at the airport). Oh no! Having a sick husband is rough, and slows everything else down . . . . Sorry about your family's flight delays.
Delta's problems are compounded, and unfortunately my BIL does IT for Delta. He was working all day on Friday trying to resolve issues . . . and he was at their friend's lake cabin. It seems the issues came from outside Delta and the "cloud" system they were using? Airlines are particularly vulnerable as they have computers in so many locations that need to be synced. Not sure why Delta is having a harder time recovering, United and some other airlines were also affected. It was airlines with newer software and using CloudStrike. This is a good explanation why Delta is really hurting: News Report on Delta
DH has a PT appointment this morning, it's for evaluation--hopefully he will also have some therapy?
QOTD: I usually finish one layout/project before starting the next one it just depends. For layouts it is usually one at a time, but I've been known to have a stack of layouts that are not quite down that end up in an Iris case. For cards, some times they are batched, so more than one? When I am playing with my hotfoil machine, I've learned it is best to be working on something else at the same time due to the time needed to heat up the plates. I worked on assembling complex die cuts last time, then made the cards later. Multi tasking crafting at it's best

Shakti - adorable! angel97701 - I wouldn't count on your dh receiving therapy at the evaluation session. I was evaluated for PT last Tuesday and had my first session on Friday (and then had to cancel this week's sessions because Dh is sick - I don't drive). I suspect they'll just evaluate him and set up appointments going forward as they use the information from the evaluation to determine the treatment plan. Hope he continues to improve Thank you all for the well wishes for DH and DD as well as the information on Delta. We're expecting them home around midnight or so tonight (and then the rest of them have another hour drive after dropping her off - thankfully we're pretty close to a highway exit). They stopped in Urbana, IL last night so it's a LONG LONG drive still to Florida.

I don't have a scrappy project planned but I do plan to make a papercrafted item to frame with die cut butterflies. I was going to copy one I saw but then realized the butterfly dies I have won't work the way I thought they would so I am searching my stash for something similar.
I will often have multiple layouts or projects going at a time. I will put the pages in progress in a page protector so I don't lose any pieces.

I had far more tolerance for that kind of thing 20-30 years ago! My friend lives in Charleston, not far from Urbana IL. I visited her a few years back and understood why she didn't like going on road trip adventures - a lot of corn fields and flat and not much else to look at! Hopefully they'll get to see some scenery at some point. Shakti what fun I love when wild friends feel safe to relax in our yards QOTD: I try to keep to one "project" at a time although sometimes I will set aside supplies for something else in hopes of coming back to it once my desk is clear. A project for me is mass producing cards so I'm usually working on a stack at once, often a LOT if I'm trying to distribute die cuts evenly across a paper pad's worth of cards.
