I love it and hate it all at the same time..My DH would buy as is and live in it. He loves these MCM houses... While I think there is a lot of great things about them, I don't decorate that style (although I like it when done cool), This house in particular, I am not liking all that dark wood and there seems to be some updating, but I love the windows and the porch.. the outside is unique (but don't like the color).. anyways, I think it is interesting (enough to share).. www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/2832-SW-Macvicar-Ave_Topeka_KS_66611_M77794-50973?from=srp-list-card

Not bad at all, but lack character ..
I have been meaning to ask, not necessarily this house. Stair cases in the middle of the room on a main floor. I realize this house has a spiral stair case, I have seen regular staircases in the middle also. But anyone just waking around could just fall down the stairs.

I am impressed with how clean it is and it seems well maintained. I would agree with loving and hating at the same time! It's a cool house.

I don't hate it it's just very uninspiring, I do hate the spiral staircase though, those things give me anxiety.

It'd be a list it for me. I like the outside but that's about it.

Yeah, same as gar. It's clean, but I didn't find it appealing in any way. Maybe it's the photos used? Sometimes, the HDR effect doesn't show off a house properly.

First thing---the blue tiles & fixtures in that bathroom is totally me. I love that best of everything in the house, LOL! The house itself isn't my style. But beyond that, it's not even an example of the style that I like all that much. Sometimes I see homes and think "That's not my style, but I'd love to spend a week or two there.". I didn't feel that way with this one. BUT, I did really like how they dealt with the hilly nature of the lot, and how they worked in the different levels of the exterior of the home to make that work. And I always appreciate a house where the owners do their best to stick with the time period in which it was built when furnishing and decorating. I tend to be so very eclectic in that regard. I don't want to be boxed in by any theme or "rule", even a theme I pick myself or a rule I make up for myself. But again, just because I don't want that for me, doesn't change the fact that I find it really cool to see in someone else's home. So in this house, while I wasn't big on the home's interior structure/bones. I did like the furnishing & decor a lot.

I am in the love it and hate it camp too. Why would anyone put a fireplace immediately adjacent to a big window?

You know I see that too occasionally and find it weird.. I feel like this must have been a trend in the 60s/70s.. or not a trend but just something that they did. Always seems weird to me. I do think this particular spiral case is kinda cool.

Ok. They clearly have a different definition of “absolutely stunning” and “tons of upgrades”….

I DO like MCM but this house isn't my favourite example of it. And I HATE that spiral staircase. I do agree that they did a good job of integrating the house into the hillside but overall I don't like the exterior look.

I feel like it needs to be freshened up. It needs a good eye to lighten it up both literally (it's too dark and heavy) and figuratively (it just needs a little more MCM whimsy and style.)

It has several great things going for it. Love the artistic driveway and size of the lot. I love all those trees too. I love the size of the bedrooms and the floor to ceiling windows in them that look out onto the greenery. The price for that size of home is shocking to me. It would hopefully leave a buyer with plenty of money to redo some things. I would start with a new kitchen and I can’t do spiral staircases. This house could be amazing if purchased by someone with vision.

Hideous blue bathroom has to go. We're there 2 with blue fixtures?
Not a fan of beams.
Has good bones, but I would have to change many things to like it. The lot is great

Personally, I don't care for MCM style.
The house itself, seems like it's move in ready. It could use some charm and personality though.....to transition it from a house to a home. Any aesthetic changes, updates and projects could be done while living there and in time (now or sometime down the road). It would be a nice find, for the right kind of MCM liking buyer.

The exterior shots - especially the 4th, 5th and 6th pictures - look a little bit like some of the interstate highway rest stops we’ve stopped at.

I kind of like the outside and the inside feels like the set of a Rock Hudson movie, only not as cool because it's not totally period-accurate.
Not the style I want to live in permanently, but there is potential for it to look great.

I like it. It's actually a good price. I have a friend who is stuck in the 60's so she would love it.

Normally an MCM is my jam, but not really in this case. I do like several things, but overall it's too dark.
I guess I hate it and love it.

I love MCM, and was excited to open the photos, but a lot of this house just looks tired and dated instead of cool retro. Give me Palm Springs MCM Atomic any day!

I’m also in the love it and hate it camp. Great setting, wonderful views, somehow it still misses the terrific MCM clean lines and serenity, while owning all the boring 1970 cliches.

I think it’s a good space and can certainly be decorated to one’s taste. The windows are a big plus for me. The price is priceless! I wonder about the location, what makes this house so cheap.
