It's July already and I don't think sleepingbooty has been or will be around to get us ready for all the holiday releases... so even though this may pale in comparison to her discussions in years gone by, I thought we could use a place to chat about all things Christmas in July (and beyond). Wishlists, releases, plans to scrap during summer, or what you want to do for DD/JYC this year. ScrappyLikeaFox is back doing Scrappy Christmas in July on Instagram this year. Is anyone following along with that hashtag? Are all the Christmas collections released so far a bit disappointing?

I miss sleepingbooty and hope she'll be able to pop in and say hi at some point but THANK YOU joblackford for setting up a Christmas in July thread. I haven't seen any Christmas releases so far that I absolutely have to have. And I have a whole drawer of paper and another smaller drawer of embellishments so...that's probably good. As far as Christmas in July plans? I've already made a couple of Christmas cards (and I made a few last month also) and I had some already but more will be needed. I should probably work on some past December/Christmas layouts. I finished the two years I did Dec Daily but the family albums have some December gaps. I haven't started scrapping Dec 2023 in the big kids album and I think I've scrapped exactly ONE layout in our album for Dec 2023...not entirely sure I've even printed either of those so that might be my first task. Dec 2014 only seems to have ONE layout finished also and while I did some Dec 2013 layouts in June - I only got to the 23rd... Dec 2012 looks to be about 1/3-1/2 done. It would be good to get at least ONE of those Decembers done this summer. I'm unlikely to do a Dec Daily this year UNLESS we end up going to VA for Christmas (as we had planned to last year before DH had the eye surgeries). I'm not an every-year DD person - I tend to just do Dec in the regular albums but if we do something out of the ordinary, then it can be fun. I did 2019 as it was the first Christmas since 2014 that all three kids were home for and then I did 2021 because it was our first Christmas in the new house. At some point I would like to go back and scrap my childhood Christmases but that's not likely to be THIS year.

There are some good lines already. I'm trying to spend very little this year but added a couple of the new Simple Stories lines to my ACOT cart. Will likely spend way too much on Ali Edwards as always. I will stop this dreadful Project Life Nov 30 and start December Daily. I don't see any reason to repeat although I may do one page of highlights to finish it off. That reminds me. It might be time to start binder 2 of project life. Must go do math! Thanks joblackford for starting this.

Are you not enjoying PL blemon? I like seeing your pages, but I'm sure it's a ton of work. I struggled with leaving Christmas out of PL but hated repeating the same stuff in two places too. Linda I was considering whether I need to do a JYC photobook every year or if I can let that go. I just remembered we're going to Hawaii for Christmas this year. It's the first time we've spent Christmas with the HIfamily at their place in over a decade (since nibling14 was a toddler and they had only just moved there), AND we get to stay for the crazy New Year's fireworks for the first time, so... we'll see.

I am at my space limit for Christmas supplies, but I like 2 of the Simple Stories lines this year. I hope this month to go through the stash I have already picked out for this year to avoid being tempted to buy more.
For once, I don't have any unfished Christmas projects to work on in July! But I really do want to do some planning ahead.
Thanks for starting this thread!

blemon and joblackford - the two years I did Dec Daily, I also did regular December pages in my family albums also...there was some duplication of page themes (where I used 1-2 pictures in DD and a full 2-page spread in the album) but there were also stories I only told in one or the other. That might have been in part because I don't always do a DD so I included more of our traditions and the history/reason for them in the DD whereas the album was the more routine stuff.

That sounds like a very good reason to do a photo book this year! Until now, I've been very onboard with an annual 6x8 album. However, I feel like recent "boring" years (ie kids are older and nothing is really happening) are making me rethink and I'll just do a few pocket pages. My honest-to-god albums are only finished to 2017 But I still plan to keep my December JYC journal because it's amazing to have a detailed record of life for a month. And this year we're in a new house and planning to host a big family celebration, so I'm wondering if it will be a book year anyways. I don't need supplies. I will make cards and I signed up for the Christmas Card event with SCT to help me get started. But currently Christmas is way out of my head with wanting to scrap recent big life events/trips, and planning for an upcoming trip too. Talk to me in October Thanks for setting this up joblackford ! Miss you sleepingbooty !

I am enjoying it. I am not burned out yet but some months have been harder than others. June has been a breeze and a joy because there was so much in the kit to use. July I am dreading but hopefully the house reno will come to a point where we will be able to go camping so I can use travel supplies that week. I know I will be flat out DONE by December. I also know myself and know that if I stop now for a "break" it won't be a break. It will be a UFO forever. I am actually pretty excited to work on this week. So much that my photos are already on my laptop and ready to edit and print. They are chosen and I made a little map of where they will go in the layout.

Thanks for starting this thread, joblackford. I’ve been thinking about my December plans and want to do another 6x8 album. I’m going to do my best to stay away from numbering it. That’s where I end up putting too much pressure on myself. I gotta have something for every single day. I really enjoyed using Ali’s album last year and will likely get buy another this year. I’m toying with the idea of getting mostly AE stuff to make things easier on myself. So far, nothing I’ve seen for Christmas excites me. If it comes down to it, I have Shimelle’s Christmas Magic digitally and will just print out papers and embellishments. That’s been my favorite Christmas collection I’ve ever used.

I will definitely be doing a December Daily project this year. Another year I used a junk journal for that and really enjoyed that, so that's what I want to do again this year.
I do not need any more Christmas papers at all. I could use a few new embellishments. So I'm likely just going to buy a few single papers here & there, but no pads or kits, and then I'll try to find some embellishments I think will work well with a lot of different papers I already have on hand.

My December Daily was a bust for last year. I really tried but it fell victim to an unusual Christmas with not much going on, some year-end burnout, and just all around winter blahs. I am also VERY torn if I want the mini album, or if I would be happier if the pages just lived in my regular 12x12. I think I convinced myself that I wanted the smaller album and the whole experience of doing a DD, despite me not being a very Christmas-y person. I really want to go back and finish it, even if it is a basic version without all the bells and whistles, but I think that this year I will focus on pockets and layouts in my regular album.
There are some sheets in the Simple Stories lines that I want, and I like the VB papers, but I am going to try to be selective in what I purchase. I also want to try to knock out some cards with older lines that I am less inspired to use so that I am not constantly accumulating Christmas paper that never gets used.

I’m planning my 2024 dd album loosely some time soonish but I know it’ll be based on stash busting and using all the red embellishments I’ve collected over the years (I used green last year and really enjoyed myself!). Have a couple of albums I could use but happy to invest in a new one if it makes me buy it 😅 So far I’m safe from buying any new collections or kits… so far… And I’ll miss sleepingbooty keeping me up to date and drop boxing me with all the best pirate hallmark Christmas movies if she’s not around 🥲

Thank you joblackford for starting the thread. I tend to read and not post, but I want to participate this year. I will officially start my "christmas in July" next week. I have some other crafty things I want to complete before then. It also aligns with me having a lot of alone time while DW is out of town later in the month. I've reached max capacity on christmas supplies, so using my stash needs to be my only option. I recently organized christmas and in doing so, got to touch ALL the things. I'm very excited to play with it all! I definitely want to get a head start on making christmas cards. I usually end up doing 90-100 cards (friends/family/peas) so I will just work towards that number. I also want to scrapbook some layouts. I have 2 years of holiday photos that I haven't scrapped yet. I am undecided on doing a DD this year. I've only done it once, in 2014. I had intended to do one last year, and I bought Paige's collection & class for it. An injury made us cancel all our fun plans, so I cancelled making the DD, too. Maybe this year if we try to do all the fun holiday things again. Too soon to tell! I just subscribed to Frndly for the month, so I'm ready for my Hallmark christmas movies fix!

Oh that sounds like a great way to make it cohesive without being too matchy matchy. I love that idea! It was actually a lot of fun and it made me use some things that I would’ve normally passed over… you know that embellishment that you like but it isn’t your absolute favourite one so you use the other one you’re more excited by and then you end up buying a new kit each year with new sparkly favourites and your stash keeps growing and growing and growing… I’ve done something similar for two years now - one year I used all bronze and black (used an old a-z alphabet instead of numbers, ae items and my last felicity jane embellishments) and the next I used all green based embellishments. Most are ae so they all look cohesive in the album and some are older so I can get inspo from old blog posts and flip throughs. It was challenging, and sometimes a little frustrating, but I am really happy with the results and I’m really keen to do it again this year.

Just received the pieces of Crate Paper Mittens and Mistletoe line that I forgot I had ordered awhile ago. I didn't order the papers; just the cute stickers and diecuts to go with the Doodlebug collection I had ordered in January.

I didn't order the papers; just the cute stickers and diecuts to go with the Doodlebug collection I had ordered in January. I love that Crate Paper collection, I have a few pieces from it. I have quite a few Christmas projects from last year that I hope to finish up this summer - 2 Tim Holtz 3D projects, and my Ali Edwards DD - I've never made a December Daily album using exclusively AE products, but I really loved the items last year so I bought most of it. I still have to put the album together, though. Last December was the last December that my family was together for the entire month, so I really want to document that. This year I'll only see my husband and son for a week at Christmas due to all of us working/attending school in different countries for awhile. That will be weird. I'm doing Stop The Blur so I'll document our temporarily separate lives in that this year. This month I'll be doing SCT's Christmas in July card event, which I'm super excited about - happy to get a head start on my cards. I also signed up for SCT's Holiday event in November. Since my husband is working in the US this year, maybe I'll even sign up for the 2 Peas Christmas card swap using his US address - cheaper for everyone. Then he can bring all the cards home with him when he's back for the holidays. Might be too ambitious for me lol. I'm tuning in to Hallmark tonight for some Christmas movies, I've missed the first two days so I hope tonight is a good one.

Well, I just looked through my Christmas supplies. I have enough of 4 different lines from over the years to do full albums using each, sooooo I don't think I'll be buying *anything* this year:D I made two 6x8 DD albums last year and was good about not overbuying, so of those supplies, I have just enough to make some cute cards. I'll be using SS Mix and a-Mingle & CP Mittens and Mistletoe for this year. grammadee I LOVE Mittens and Mistletoe. I've used a few bits before and picked up a second 6x8 pad sometime last year. It's so awesome for the hiking and outdoorsy things I do in December that aren't directly connected to Christmas.

So today my big Christmas in July accomplishment was tea dying a whopping 6 pieces of paper, LOL. And this is why it's a good idea for me to create the base of my December Daily junk journal this far in advance. As a bonus, however, my tea bags came in green & red wrappers, so I wiped those down and saved them to put into the journal, too. I've been trying to remember what I might have here or there to add to it. So, a tiny bit of brainstorming, too. I know some people like to make "junk journal" style journals, but nothing in them is really junk--it's mostly new stuff. But mine are definitely junk. I tend to hold on to things specifically for the next time I make a journal, but it's stuff I could have just as easily recycled. Leftover planner pages, leftover pages in my kids' school notebooks, greeting cards I've received, tons of used or junk mail envelopes, some brown packaging paper, and so on. BUT, it's finding where i've been stashing it all that's the tricky bit.

(Like I saw someone making a creative sticker journal using all the random stickers she had leftover in her stash, but then she lost me when she started buying masses of stickers especially to put in the journal. To each their own, but defeated the purpose to me!) I hope you find all the cool stuff you have saved It sounds like a really fun project.

I exclusively scrapbook "traditional" 12x12 layouts (stored in a 12x12 album with various size/format page protectors for extra photos/memorabilia/etc.), so no cardmaking, traveler's/junk journals, or mini albums, such as DD, JYC, etc. My only holiday task in July is to peruse new releases!

I've been hoping sleepingbooty would pop back in and start the annual Christmas thread, so I'm glad you've posted in her absence joblackford. I've been largely underwhelmed by the Christmas releases so far. I bought one of the AE mini kits last Christmas and then separated it into two starting points, so I'm doing the reverse of lg in that I used all my red embellishments last year, so this year am planning on using all the green ones. My current plan is to pair the really dark green in my stash with lots of aqua (and probably black and white FJ papers) to make it better fit my style. I also have an album or two stashed away I could use, but if I find something I love this year I'm happy to be persuaded to purchase a new one. I could do with a Christmas in July project, I've only scrapped a couple of pages from last Dec for my 12x12 album, although I did finally print out all the photos recently and get them into page protectors, but I'll probably end up doing the really Christmassy pages closer to the season.

Are all the Christmas collections released so far a bit disappointing? I feel like they are, a bit, but again I don't really need anything else lol. I am doing a Christmas in July cardmaking personal challenge, where each week I make at least two Christmas cards. Today I made 4. Then I am going to decide if I really really love the supplies enough to make more cards with them. If not, I will RAK them. I am trying to cull some of my Christmas cardmaking supplies, as I got a new stamp set and now feel a little overwhelmed.
