What kind of noise do you like or not like?
In general, most noises don’t bother me. I don’t like high pitched noises. I cannot go to a concert with a lot of high pitched screaming. It hurts my ears. I also don’t like chaotic noise. For instance, I don’t mind loud cheering fans at a football game, but if I am In crowded space and people are talking loudly all around me, it drives me nuts.
I like soft background noise. I do like sitting in a cafe at lunch time and hearing the sound of muffled voices around me. I do have the tv or radio on at home. And yes, I like ASMR. 😆

When I'm working, I like it silent. No TV or distractions.
At night, I sleep with a white noise app on my phone because I have to have a monotone noise to sleep. I could never fall asleep with the tv on because it would be too distracting.

I prefer silence, totally. If I'm home alone I don't turn anything on...no TV, no radio, no Spotify. Occasionally I'll ask Alexa to play some specific songs, or I might watch Netflix. The noise that makes me craziest is the repetitive tapping -- like for example a child tapping a pencil in school. No. The kids know it too. I'll say "Jimmy please stop tapping that pencil" and someone will always chime in with "You know Mrs. G. doesn't like that kind of noise." hahaha -- Similarly I don't like random rattling in the back of my car. I don't mean mechanical things (well, I wouldn't want that either!) but rattling like if I have stuff to donate in a box and something is bumping up against something else. I also hate it when there's been background noise going on for some time...eventually I feel like I want to tear my hair out. For example... the Tour de France is going on right now. Dh gets up at 6:00 and turns on the TV. He will happily sit there watching it for the entire morning. I like the Tour, and I don't mind a couple of hours. But after that it's just too much noise. I usually suggest to dh that maybe he should go downstairs. haha Dh is the type who *always always* has something on. He loves the radio talk shows (the news type), he loves the TV analysis type shows, and if all else fails he'll have background music. ugh. We are not compatible. lol

Yappy dogs do my head in almost more than anything.
With most noises I’m ok for a while then ‘grrrrrr’ suddenly it’s too much. If I have my grandkids here, someone puts some music on, someone else is talking loudly etc I have to dip out now and then.

Not many noises bother me, most of the time I can pretty much tune out anything...the only kind of noise that bothers is me is something super repetitive like someone tapping a pencil on the table or a faucet dripping.

I like noise. Music, podcasts, etc. But *one* noise at a time. I don't want to hear Jeremy's birds screaming + his TV going + him watching videos on his phone. My brain cannot separate out competing noises. I cannot be in a room where people are having many different conversations. My brain just can't handle it. I feel confused and unfocused.

Screaming especially in music Angry raised voices make me twitchy DH chewing Too much competing noise at the same time (like a crowd of people talking is fine, but throw in a blaring TV or music and it's too much) I don't like shopping in stores where they play music (my Target just added this with their remodel) and it makes me want to leave, not to shop more... Trying to read while my neighbor on the other side of the fence power washes (which he does constantly) is also up there on the list of noises that annoy me.
Most other stuff I can tune out

I’m retired now, but when I was working I always had the tv tuned into reruns of shows that I’d seen. Somehow it helped me focus on my work. I couldn’t tell you what happened on the shows though.
I hate loud noises. My husband has pretty serious hearing loss, so he always has things turned way up. It always bugs me, but I shut up about it.

I prefer ambient noise. My sleep earbuds play a calming wind noise that I fall asleep to every night. What I cannot handle is the news or any kind of talk radio. DH plays the news really loud in the morning so he can hear it while he's in the shower. It's so annoying that I make sure I am up, ready and out the door before he even wakes up.
I also like certain narrators of audiobooks. I find their voices very soothing.
ETA: thought of one more thing that sends me over the edge. Cartoon voices. I get so pissed when people bring their kids out with an ipad and let them play their games/cartoons where I can hear it.

Most noises bother me at this point in my life. I can tune our most talking and my kids playing, but repetitive noises (pens tapping) and loud noises (gunfire on tv, metal music, etc) drive me mad. Literally. I also hate ASMR type sounds. I love to watch ASMR videos on mute because the motions are soothing but I can't handle the sounds.
ETA: I do sleep with a fan on high because I can't sleep in dead silence but other sounds are distracting.

I do not like repetitive noises at all. One of our kids likes to make repetitive noises (flipping a piece on her cell phone so it clicks, tapping her leg on the table, clicking her fork on a plate) and my DH and I stop her immediately. Neither of us like those types of noises and she is wicked for it.
I also find that I get overstimulated easily if we have all four kids in the house plus their friends. The noise level is high and especially after work, I want some quiet. I usually sneak off to our room for an hour and either sit in silence, read, or scroll my phone (on silent). My work requires a lot of interaction, phone calls, Teams calls, video chats, etc. and by the end of the day, I am "people-d" out.

I don't like traffic noise. Not the constant hum of people driving average vehicles at average speeds--that's okay. But a few times a day someone will either gun the engine just to do so, or someone will go by with a very large (think construction) vehicle or a very loud vehicle, and because those noises are outside the norm, first they sometimes startle me, but moreover, they completely drown out anything else happening. So if someone is speaking to me, I won't hear them. If I'm watching a video or TV, I won't hear it. Basically, it's just annoying. The noise that bothers me that I feel badly about is sustained whistling. Because whistling is fun, and I often associate it with someone being happy, and so I ought to like it, right? But nope--after awhile of someone whistling every part of me is silent asking "When will they stop?!?" On the flip side, I also dislike the sound of whispering. I imagine that if this thread hangs around awhile, I'll think of a bunch of other noises I dislike, too, since by and large, I like quiet. Ooh, like I just remembered---I loathe leaf-blowers.

Generally noise doesn't bother me...
Exceptions:
Two ladies sitting behind dh and I at Red Robin last night. Place was pretty much empty. Music in background. But not loud. These two women were SOOOO freaking loud, I could hear every single word about Logan, Target, driving, shopping, Logan, Logan and Logan. It was so annoying. What was even worse when we sat down their dirty plates were sitting there so I thought it won't last too long. WRONG. We got up to leave and then they wanted dessert. Shoot me now.
One of my co-workers won't wear earplugs and she turns on some TV show, and it just bugs me for no reason. But she is like nails on a chalkboard about everything. A one-upper as well.
I have a fan or white noise when I go to sleep. Sometimes fall asleep to the TV.. it has to be something I have watched a thousand times, like Gilmore Girls. I can just close my eyes and listen.
Sometimes it is overwhelming at my moms; my mom's husband has the TV on full blast with his 1960ish cowboy shows or movies blaring.
Otherwise I'm usually okay.. but don't get me started on that ASMR stuff... that is a NO except the lawn mowing guy. haha

People talking too loudly in public, especially restaurants or airplanes. I don't care about your colonoscopy or what you're having for dinner. The person's right next to you; use your library voice. Here in Florida, we've had an influx of Jersey people. For the love of all that's holy, there's no need to shout.
We were recently at a very noisy restaurant next to a table of drunken hillbillies talking loudly and at length about t*tties. I couldn't hear the people at my table but I could sure hear them. 😤
I'm getting like one of the old guy muppets.

A lot of noises bother me like repetative noises (tapping, snoring, etc).
There is one noise I absolutely LOVE and that's the sound of a cat purring. I used to have a cat that liked to be carried around and he would purr and I would just put my ear to his belly and listen to it. It's just so calming to me. I've often thought it would make a great sound to put inside my pillow to help me fall asleep at night lol.

when i craft, i like to have white noise on. my white noise is something on tv that i've probably watched a million times. i don't want to be interested in it enough to be distracted but i want it to be familiar enough so that it isn't total silence in my room. i don't like to listen to music.

I like pure silence when I first get up. Just went on a girls' weekend and one of the women turned on the tv before she had coffee . It made me all rage-y. I listen to music when I’m out and about in the car, but generally it’s silent at home unless I’m preparing a meal; then I play music. We keep a fan going outside our closed bedroom door, because Mabel starts scratching at it around 4am and Vinny plays with his spring loudly on the stairs and it used to wake me up. Sounds I love are the wind blowing, a wood fire crackling, the water sounds of streams and oceans, rain, snow falling, birds singing in the morning, distant train whistles, dog toenails clicking on a wood floor, car tires on gravel roads, the barred owls calling to each other from the trees in our yard, and music I like. I especially love the gentleness in DS's voice when I tell him I love him and he says, love you too. I can’t stand leaf blowers, the beeping of trucks backing up, screeching brakes, people talking on infomercials, gunshots and fireworks. Oh and there’s a special place in hell reserved for a church near where I walk that plays hymns from a computerized church bell. It chimes the hour, which is reasonable, and then for 30 minutes, proceeds to harsh my mellow from birdsong, wind blowing the tall grasses and tree branches.

The sound of my 4th graders’ metal water bottles tipping over or falling to the floor about did me in. After I retired and subbed at a high school I could not believe how little noise the kids made with their things. Pepfests should be banned - so ridiculously loud.
I have found that as I have gotten older the quieter I like it. I never turn on my tv for background noise. I don’t play music while I’m in the house either.

I'm at home alone most of the time, I like music or tv on. It doesn't bother me because I control the volume and the on/off button. I love (most) birds singing.
Most other noise bothers me, dogs barking, kids screaming, fidgeting noise (DD does this because it soothes her), others watching tv loudly when I'm not watching, lawn mowers/snowblowers, crowds, noisy restaurants. I can go to concerts maybe because I know I'm there for the noise.

Dh and ds are super noise sensitive! Me, not so much. The only thing I really don't like is some of the repetitive music that dh listens to. He likes EDM.😖
We are in Dubrovnik, right by the cathedral, and at 11:30pm a band started playing the Cancan song and now a play is being performed and it involves A LOT of yelling! Thankfully the weather turned cooler today, and we have a little air conditioning unit, because we've had to close the windows. We can still hear, but it's muted enough we should be able to sleep, unless the band starts up again.

I prefer no noise. Especially at home. I never have on non-stop background noise. If I watch a movie, tv show or listen to a few songs....then I turn it off when I am done. I also listen at a lower volume than the average person.
I can handle noise in smaller time frames and smaller doses....chatter and talking, concerts (I always wear thicker earplugs), dining in a restaurant, out at a bar. More often than not, I put my ear plugs in towards the end of the work day.
If I am going to be in a louder noise situation >> out a bar with friends, concert, ball game, etc....I mentally prepare for it. I also take a break(step outside or in the corridor of the concert venue) just to have a quiet (or quieter) break from the non-stop noise.
Non-stop noise (tv or music) all day...is a no. After a few hours of it (like at work), I am on sensory overload. There is overhead music at work, which is why I put my earplugs in (they help muffle the constant noise). I always drive home from work or an social gathering or event....with the car radio off, because I NEED quiet.
I don't like noises like tapping or drumming fingers, whistling, constant humming. Whistling is the worst and an instant trigger. Children screaming, screeching or crying non stop and constant video game noise..... escalate my sensory overload. I hate fireworks. I will be wearing thicker earplugs, to help muffle the neighborhood fireworks.
The type of noise, also makes a difference. I can handle a few hours at a concert....much better than a few hours of children yelling, shrieking and screeching at a playground.
I have been this way my whole life, and noise has gotten more bothersome to me as I age. I never expect anyone to cater to me (turn down their tv or music).....I tolerate it. I carry earplugs in my purse. I know my limits, and will excuse myself to take a "quiet break" or depart a situation entirely if I need to.

I can’t stand the sound of a sporting game on the radio. The announcers play by play just pushes me over the edge.
White fan noise when sleeping is a fav.
Normally I prefer silence, but when cooking or cleaning appreciate some good dance/sing a long songs.

I have misophonia so I’m extremely sensitive to noise as it will bring a physical response. Anything repetitive, like a certain beat or sound in a song, screaming music like AC/DC for example. Bass, so if I can hear the thump but can’t make out the words, will make me nauseous. Tonight, fireworks in the distance, the thump… woosh that occured back to back for an hour straight about sent me into a tail spin. Clicking a pen, the sound of dings on a cellphone, tapping nails, humming, clicking a computer mouse, this list goes on. Tones, volumes, and repetitive sounds, that’s what gets me. My phone is always on silent, always. It doesn’t help that I can hear a gnat fart a mile away.

I am a lunch lady at Primary school, and do the cashier job a few times every week, so I’ve gotten pretty good at blocking out noise. Also Dh has the tv on a lot when he is in the house. I used to be able to tune it out to read, but find it more difficult to do so as I get older.
I need my silence in the morning before I go to work, and get fussy if Dh gets up early and turns on the tv in the front room where I can hear while I am sitting with my tea reading. I have been going outside on the front porch in the am w/my book and my cuppa this summer while I’m off for some quiet before it gets too hot.
If I am alone in the house, I never turn on the tv for background noise. I might listen to music if I am cleaning or crafting but not when I am reading or surfing the web. Dh likes music on the tv before he goes to sleep. I usually wait til he turns it off to come to bed. There is no way I could tolerate tv being on all night long.

Hate: - Electric hand dryers. I would rather dry my hands on my jeans than use one. - Sudden noises, like the workmen dropping a plank of wood at the hospital yesterday and making about 40 people in the waiting room jump. And one of my colleagues makes those spontaneous explosive sneezes that sound like a scream. I suppose it's the fight or flight reaction, but I get a surge of anger at her, which then immediately dissolves into frustration at myself, because it isn't her fault. It's disturbing. - DH snoring when I'm trying to get to sleep. - that bl**dy rattle in my elderly car which I can't find or fix.
Love: - birdsong - the sound of wind or waves - classical music while I'm crafting or cooking
