If you had $1000 for a small house project or purchase, what would you do? I am looking for some ideas!

Unfortunately, I don’t feel like $1k goes very far. I have recently done the following, which each fell under $1k each, if this helps trigger any ideas for you. 1) Bought two raised, divided planters for our upper deck area and planted herbs in it. 2) Primary bedroom refresh: Replaced a ceiling fan, converted two can lights to pendants, bought some new artwork/decor, and painted the wall behind the bed. 3) Bought bins to organize all of the linen closets in my house. 4) Bought new rugs, planters, and plants for my front porch, and painted the doors (I have two, one to living room and one to mudroom.) 5) Replaced all cushions and pillows (4 hanging swing benches) and the outdoor rug on our lower deck, and also swapped out the decor down there to match.

I am a renter.....so I would do a purchase.
There's a certain cart I want for my scrapbook area. About $175-ish with tax. I also want a pantry type cabinet. I have looked at several online, most are around $200-$300.

Update a bathroom. I think ours was around that amount (new vanity and sink, floor, towel holder, mirror, light fixture, paint) although it's all still sitting in the boxes three years later because DH doesn't want to remove the toilet to put down the floor (the toilet is fairly new but was a separate project.)
I'd like a new back fence but the quote we got 5 years ago (for 100 feet of fence) was $5000 and I'm sure it's only gotten more expensive.

Put in some closet organization. Stain the deck. Different landscaping. New front door. Paint some rooms. I want to paint our kitchen cabinets.

Replace all your old light fittings with led ones - you can still get natural light but save on your electricity bills etc and they last a long time. So you spend money but save money😁 OR I would finally fix that thing in the house that annoys me any time I go near it - for example replace a broken screen door or add an extra electrical outlet in the kitchen or put a light or skylight in that dark dingy hallway/corner where I store all the things etc… so not a major reno but something that would make my everyday life 1000x better.

If I had to choose only one, from the long list I have been adding to since buying this house, I would buy several more raised beds for my new vegetable garden. I have a few on order, but will need more. Also the good quality soil to fill them.

Our bathroom needs to be repainted (including cabinets and trim) and have some of the drywall patched. That will probably run about $1K. Or I could do it myself, but I don't want to.

Hmm, as mentioned above, we do have several projects lined up that 1 grand won't cover, even though we're doing them ourselves. BUT, we also have some that it would. We have a small kitchen. Not "small" as in "only 2 seats at the kitchen island" small. Small as in we have to move the table away from the wall any time 4 people are eating at the table at the same time. But the silver lining of that is that DIY changes to our kitchen are relatively inexpensive. So we're going to replace the 1960s ceiling tiles with tin tiles. We're going to put in new countertops and backsplash. And we're going to repaint. And we can do all of that for under 1K. So that would be my answer right now.

I am adding board and batton with a 2 inch railing to my dining room. Won't be quite $1000, but I also bought 10 large phot frames as well.

I want a really nice light fixture for my master bedroom. It's been a few months since I browsed and never found anything I loved. The range was about $400 to $1600. I would not want to spend over $1000.

I'd save it for something larger. Just spent a bundle on outdoor landscaping so like to build up savings. But.....to answer you, in your scenario, I'd purchase new dining room curtains, and repaint living and dining rooms.I have a new dining room table and chairs chosen but doesn't meet 1,000.00 budget. I'd maybe consider some new patio furniture if I could get a nice set for 1000.00.

I'd put it towards redoing our patio, new living room furniture or new windows...but it wouldn't likely cover any of those...

New steps and a railing at the porch, 3 stepsand i want wood i think, not concrete. Much needed. I'd like a small ramp and raining going up front of porch- would be 2 steps if one put steps there., not sure how feasible doing both would be but yeah one of those

A fresh coat of paint can make a huge difference and some new pillows for the sofa or new bedding is nice too

New kitchen counter tops and sink. I’m surprised at what you all can do with $1k. I was thinking “buy a rug”.

A fresh coat of paint can make a huge difference and some new pillows for the sofa or new bedding is nice too I was going to suggest painting as well. We moved here about 10 months ago and the entire house was painted one shade of brown or another. I broke my wrist a month before we moved in and couldn’t paint until January. I painted the living room, hall, entry, and stairway. It took 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of sage green paint, but I LOVE how fresh and clean it looks.

Use it toward the purchase of plantation shutters. Ours were already installed in the condo when we purchased it 4 years ago, and we really, really like them on all our windows and doors.

Id get a window cleaner to come clean all the outside of the windows... I was mulling over what my answer would be when I saw this. I love this idea. We have five skylights and they could definitely use a professional cleaning job along with the windows.

That's what I had to spend to get 2 of our giant trees thinned out in the spring. It was worth it after our first storm and so many people around us had fallen branches though.
DH would say to repaint our bedroom/bath and get a new ceiling fan. We do all the work ourselves, so it's just time and supplies. Holy crap a gallon of paint has gotten high though!
