Three decades ago, in 1994, a guy by the name of Jeff Bezos worked out of his garage and founded a little company you know today as Amazon.
What was your first order & when? (Go to your profile, then track/manage orders), then filter & go to the oldest year)
My first order was in 2001, I ordered the DVD “Six Wives of Henry VIII as a birthday gift for my mom. I didn’t order again until 2004, when again, I ordered a calendar as a gift for my mom. I didn’t order again until 2007. I was getting bold then. I ordered 4 times that year, each time was a book. Fast forward…I’ve had 29 orders already this year 😁
So what was your first Amazon order, and when?

My first order was 2005 and it was 3 Thomas The Tank Engine board books for my nephew.
(I'm actually really surprised that my first order wasn't earlier than this. But that's all it shows. So if I ordered earlier, I must have had a different account at one time.)

I’ll never know. My ex retained our “legacy” (lol) Amazon account. I do know it was likely 1999 or 2000.
It was books for college. The school bookstore was soooo expensive, and many of the required reading books were out of stock.
I started out shopping “online” for books with a site whose name I can’t recall for the life of me. Then a few times on ebay… then I found Amazon.

My first order in my order history was two Aerosmith albums and a remote controlled t-Rex.
But, I know I ordered from the before that…I remember ordering books back in 1996.

September, 1998. It was a book of course. I used to read so much when I took mass transit to work. Also, read a lot before social media. Funny, but now my Amazon purchases rarely include a book.
I know I ordered before that because I have a magnet from an order that I took with me when I moved offices before September 1998. I think I may have had a different account.

I have no idea, my current account only goes back to 2007, and I know that's incorrect.
I sold used books and CD's on there in the early 2000s.

We only got Amazon in Australia at the end of 2018, just in time for Christmas! I just checked my order history, and my first order was a replacement Garmin band in May 2019. Why did it take me 6 months to place an order?! Before we had Amazon in Australia, I purchased a book called 'Raising Your Spirited Child' for a friend, from the US site. It was a Pea that recommended the book.

2003 I bought a camera and a PlayStation.
Apparently I shopped on Amazon for my kids Christmas gifts for many years…I bought a ton of books and dvds for them between 2005 and 2010.

My first order was The Dutch Oven Cookbook from Amazon.ca in 2010.

I don't know. We probably had more than one account because the earliest option for me is 2010, but we definitely bought books earlier than that. Late 90s or early 00s.

But I was still predominately books until 2015!

Mine was in 1999 and it was the book Feminine Wiles by Jane Bowles. I actually remember it independently because I’d looked everywhere for it, including some antiquarian book festivals, and couldn’t find it, and I was so happy I had tracked it down on this new to me site.

My order says 2008 and it was a photograpy book for son, but I don't think that was my first order. I think my email provider changed our email endings, so I probably have orders dating around 1999-2000 as my grandson was a baby then and I remembering buying toys and books for him.

The first order that shows up in my history was in April 1997. Three WWII reference books and a writing reference book. I was still writing back then. BUT 1995 and 1996 also showed up in my order history, with no orders showing. So it may have been earlier. I know I was an early frequent-flyer, because one of those early years, they sent me a really cute travel coffee cup decorated with famous authors and literary quotations as a Christmas gift for being a regular customer. Apparently I was resistant to using Amazon for anything other than books, movies, and music … it doesn’t show any orders for other items till the mid ’00s. Some of the years in the early ’00s only show one order the whole year, which I find hard to believe. Other years show some orders that there’s no details for, just the fact there was an order. So those older histories aren't really complete.

Jan 22nd 2001 - an art book, Myth and Romance - The paintings of J.W. Waterhouse Waterhouse is my favourite Victorian painter, I've still got that book plus another couple I bought later. Everything I bought was books and DVDs until 2012, when I bought my first Fitbit...and from then on, the flood gates opened I also remember Oprah interviewing Jeff Bezos and he was telling her how Amazon started and about their first week of sales...they had boxes of books on the floor in his garage and there was only him and one other employee, and they got so many orders that first week they could hardly keep up, they were on the floor, getting books and packing them up to mail out, and the other guy looked at Bezoz and said "you know what this means...?" meaning this was going to big much bigger than they anticipated, and Bezos replied "yeah - we're going to need some knee pads"

I bought a book that was a gift for my dad in 2002. I continued to order books and DVDs as gifts for others until 2008 when I finally bought something for myself!

In June of 1999 I bought a copy of Bridget Jones’s Diary. I must have bought it as a gift because I know that I read a library copy.
