If you used to do a craft and you stopped, why did you stop?
I scrapbooked for nearly 9 years. I was asked to create a scrapbook as a leaving present for our vicar. I was honoured, and poured my heart and soul into it for 9 weeks, doing pretty much nothing else during that time. I completed 52 pages and I was so proud of it, but I was scrapbooked out! After a few weeks I was just thinking of getting back into it again when the vicar was inducted into his new parish, and some of our congregation travelled 6 hours each way to be there for him. They reported that the vicar had said that he never liked our town, and that it was "dead to him now". They were hurt. I was hurt. All that effort.
I did buy a project life mini-album to document a holiday, but I never did that either. Maybe I will, one day. I still have the stuff because I still love making cards.
Do you have a story?

When my husband and I separated, I lost most of my interest.
I did start back up again and completed many pages of my new nieces after that, and my kids, but really never did anything about us as a couple ever again even though we got back together.
Our relationship got so much better once we moved and had to rely on each other and decided we wanted to stay committed. But, the passion for scrapbooking never really returned. I think I made 2-3 pages after our move and none since the subsequent move.
I got rid of most of my stuff but I do still have a considerable amount of supplies. Mostly I use them for other projects now. I sometimes think I'll start up again, and have had some pictures printed to work on, but haven't actually sat down to do it.
Right now all my creative energies are funneled into art and my small business. I recently dropped down to part-time status at work and I'm loving having so much time to cook, clean, organize, and create. I may pick up scrapbooking again one day! But it's been years.

Honestly, I started scrapbooking because my friends were and we would go to weekly crops. It was a way to connect. I rarely scrapped at home, it was always at the crops. At home, I did other crafts - quilting, knitting, painting. So when the crops stopped, I sort of stopped scrapping. I did put photos into albums before that, but not the scrapbooking way we think of here on this board.
I have also stopped knitting because I had too many projects that I never wore afterwards. I still paint, and I want to get back to art quilting.

I sort of became disillusioned with scrapbooking. I started resenting so many new launches, buying a paper pad but only liking 6 out go the 20 in it, so much money spent, never having enough vowels in letter sets meaning a lot of other letters were 'wasted' or sitting unused. I did get into digi scrapping and LOVED it = you can use a piece of paper countless times, never run out of letters, have access to techniques that just aren't possible with paper and I might...maybe....get back into that. But back then I would lose hours of my day/evening sitting at my laptop and I just decided it was too much.

I went back to work full time in 2006. The scrapbooking sort of naturally fell off after that.

When I became really ill scrapbooking was too much work. I was just too tired. I've been trying to get back into it, but I just don't have the desire right now.

Plus, I can sit in the family room with only my laptop as a worksurface and still feel like I'm taking part in life not banished to a different part of the house. LOL! That said, I still have a load of paper SBing stuff. Luckily it transfers well to card making. RedSquirrelUK- That's horrible! I'm sorry you went through all that work for it to be unappreciated. Forget the a$$hat of a vicar. Remember the joy that it gave you while working on it.

I guess I stopped scrapbooking when my kids got older. I just didn't have as many pictures of them and I just lost interest.

I go in cycles so I have not quit anything and junked my supplies, but it’s usually a function of how much time I have. Eg, I am always knitting because I can do a row here and there and it’s portable, but it has been two years since I have made a quilt because that isn’t portable and I have not had the time to sit down to sew because of the kids’ soccer schedules.

Years ago I sold Close To My Heart products. I met a group of 4 women who found my website and consistently ordered from me. They started inviting me to their monthly crops (we all lived in the same township). They were so much fun. Then one of the ladies got sick and it was bone cancer. She did well with the treatment for almost two years but then it spread and she died. She was like the Betty White of our group. She was funny and ditzy and added so much. It was too hard to have the crops without her. Then we were just ready to start the crops again and Covid hit. I have not done anything since then as the crop was my social time. It wasn't fun scrapping alone. I recently finished a few pages that I started a few years ago. I'm also delving back into digital scrapping. I won't go at full steam like I did before but I will do pages here and there. We may start our crops again in the fall but it just won't be the same without Kay.

I used to cross-stitch. I gave it up when the kids were little, I had no time for it. And then never really picked it up again until recently - a stocking for our soon to be son-in-law.
I used to own an LSS - and most of my scrapbooking took place there or at crops. I rarely did it at home by myself. So now I have totes of hundreds of dollars worth of product in the basement I just can't seem to give up.
My main craft now is crochet. I work on one project at a time, I need to finish one before I can do another!

When my mom passed away I lost all mojo to scrapbook. Plus, after she passed away I separated and ultimately got divorced so everything changed in a short amount of time. I donated a lot of items and only kept the bare minimum for tools. I now make cards and junk journal. I did do one scrapbook for DD 8th grade graduation. I did not do one for her HS graduation...

“If you used to do a craft and you stopped, why did you stop?”
Over the years I’ve dabbled in just about every craft imaginable but the simple answer to your question is I just lost interest. Now I’m strictly a card maker, I enjoy the whole process of making that special card for someone and I don’t see myself giving it up anytime soon.

the only hobby that would probably make me stop papercrafting would be quilting. i have always wanted to learn and i already enjoy sewing. i just fear going down another rabbit hole of tool and supplies. thank fully i already have two great sewing machines but i have a feeling i might want to own a quilting specific sewing machine and then we're off with the spending!

I loved doing scrapbook pages back in the day. It was a combination of things that made me quit - local scrapbook store closed, digital photography options, and my youngest daughter quit taking naps.

I moved from a 2600 sq foot house across the country to a 1000 sq foot apartment. The idea was to be there for a year so I got rid of a lot of stuff that I didn't want to put in storage. I had kind of lost interest in scrapbooking by that time and gave a lot of my supplies to my mom for her cardmaking.
Needless to say, the year turned into 2 and then we got divorced. He didn't want anything from the storage shed so it's all sitting in my garage, scrapbooks and all, because I don't have a place to put them in my duplex.

I still scrapbook some, not nearly as much as I used to. Over the years, I've stopped different crafts for different reasons. Most recently I stopped knitting. I had taken it back up in 2016. I'd had to give up crocheting years earlier because it hurt my hands but I decided to see if I had an issue with knitting. I did not. The movement is different and it seldom bothered my hands particularly if knitting with circular needles. I got more into it the next year when taking care of my dad. DH told me I needed to find something to do at least one day a week to get me away from my responsibilities. I started going to a knitting group one afternoon a week and it was a huge help to my stress.
I continued with the group for several years but it just isn't the same anymore. The pandemic, the sale of the shop to a new owner, at least 3 shop moves have all resulted in a lot fewer people attending including me. I'd already stopped going so often and at the first of this year I just stopped knitting. I wasn't that interested in my current project. I think I just overdid it making so many sweaters, ponchos and a few scarves. I wear a few of my pieces but a lot of them are sitting in drawers.
For me I have to have a purpose to my craft. I can't just quilt or paint for the fun of it. I've got to be making something I'm going to do something with. It can be for me or someone else. Almost every quilt I've made this year has gone to charity. I'm about to start on one for myself.

I don't know why I got so consumed with using thickers. I bought a Joy to make titles. But I mostly use alpha stamps. I have a few big ones that I can stamp out my title in whatever ink color I want. If I want dimension I stamp and fussy cut. I use scraps if I don't have foam squares. I like that part of scrapping. The finished layout is just gravy. For me it's the paper, scissors and glue that I like. I like manual processes. I don't care if it takes me a week to finish a layout. For me, it's never about the completing (other than to admire my work) it's all about the doing.

Scrapbooking lost it's appeal with me after our little group quit getting together. Then I realized my family had no interest in the albums. I've got rid of lots, but have plenty of supplies that if I could SB if wanted. I've sewn and knit since I was quite young and those are still crafts I enjoy.

I started scrapbooking and sewing not long after my daughter was born. I loved both of them, and spent every single hour that she was sleeping during the day either sewing or scrapbooking. I started taking sewing lessons and loved that. I made so many outfits for DD and her little friends at creche, as well as a few things for myself. When our sewing lessons had to stop, my sewing really slowed down. I took it up again when DS was born, but now I haven't made anything for years. If I were more competent with zips etc, I think I would like to start up again. But without the back-up of my sewing teacher, I can't do it.
I kept up with my scrapbooking all that time, but finally stopped sometime around 2009, when DS was about 5yo. DSO kept commenting on how I was always in my study/craft room, and when the kids started mentioning it too, I realised I had to prioritise my time spent with family.
So after a break of about 9 years, I took up digital scrapping in 2018. I had been buying a few supplies here and there, and when I got up to about 20 kits, I thought I'd better start using them. I absolutely LOVE it, and I haven't looked back. I can sit in the lounge room with the family while we're watching TV, and scrap, and not feel guilty about it at all. I can scrap on the train on the way to work. I can scrap in the car on a long drive, or on a plane, I can scrap when we go away on a trip, or sitting outside on warm summer mornings.
I really do miss sewing though.

I stopped scrapbooking when cell phone photos became more widely used rather than a dslr camera. I just lost interest after that. The new launches in scrapbooking products no longer interested me so it all seemed pointless.

I stopped scrapbooking because I was overwhelmed by how much stuff I felt I needed. and also I wasn't very good at arranging the pages.
Other crafts - I've tried lots, because it's fun to learn things. But very few held my interest after I felt I had mastered them. These days I still sew, do watercolors and travel journals and Photoshop, for the most part. And I like to make wreaths with things from the dollar store, like flip flops or ribbons, and then give them away to friends.

I do a number of different crafts and most I still do to some extent but I did stop candle making. Mostly because I still have a ton of candles and rarely burn them anymore and also it can be very messy and you need to have things out for a couple of days.

Back in the early 1980's, I took a cake decorating class. I liked it, but didn't love it. I thought it was a lot of work, between making the cake or cupcakes...then doing the decorating, then the clean up. If I recall correctly, I had a starter kit and added a few specific frosting tips and got some accessories. I think I made a few cakes for birthdays, then stopped. Eventually I donated the cake decorating stuff I had.

I have struggled with scrapbooking in the last few years. Most of my friends have moved away, my family doesn't get together very often, and my heart horse died. I just find that I'm not often inspired to take as many photos these days because of those reasons. I haven't purged my supplies because I do love looking through the albums I have completed so I keep hoping that I get my scrappy groove back eventually.

I used to cross stitch. I completed a few smaller projects, started and abandoned a few large projects. Then, I realized, I don't really like it and I can't count for shit. LOL I was always off and undoing stitches. It sucked. LOL
I scrapbooked and went to crops with friends. As the kids got school aged we just got too busy. I'm a graphic designer so most of the pages I did towards the end were digital. I would love to pick that back up. I adore photoshop. I use it every day for my job so I know it well. I love digital scrapping beacuse I can design what *I* want! :-) I still have tons of scrpping supplies. Mostly paper and all of the crap you need to tote all of that junk to crops! Hahaha!
I've always sewn off and on. Mostly garments and household items. I recently started to learn to piece quilts. I love that but even more, I love to long arm quilts! I'm hoping to do way more of that in the future!

I have done about every craft imaginable except for sewing/quilting (no machine)
There are several that I don't do anymore (Needlepoint, Rug Hooking, String Art, Macrame all come to mind) - mainly because they sort of ran out of style and I couldn't easily locate the materials any longer, plus a lot of crafting was for gifts and I don't know anyone that would want those things any longer.
I still crochet, knit, scrapbook (mostly through the PL app but I still make cards and do some paper layouts from time to time) and cross stitch. I don't cross stitch as much as I used to simply because my eyes are not as strong as they used to be for those tiny little holes, but I still enjoy it once and a while, I just don't do big cross stitch projects that I used to, I do smaller ones.

As far as scrapbooking, I was tending to do more cardmaking than actual scrapbooking, and I LOVED going to a local scrapbook shop and to the Archiver's store to do their card making classes. Loved going for a few hours and coming out with a handful of completed cards. When all those shops closed down I sort of just stopped.
I do still do counted cross stitch, and stitch just about everyday. Have weekly Zoom's with a group of stitchy ladies in my state. So I guess I just switched hobbies.

I haven't officially given up scrapping....but this year has taken a toll on me and I have not done anything other than finish up last years DD album. I keep thinking one day I will wake up and want to be in my scrapbook room....but it's not happening. Im am really hoping one day my mojo comes back as I do have a travel album I would like to make of our travels this year. But so far, I am struggling.
