The issue is the large number of undecided voters. There is no such thing as an undecided voter. This is media bullshit. Someone who says they are "undecided" is pro-trump but refuses to admit it. I disagree. I think if someone is undecided now they are probably a fairly low information voter. But it doesn’t really mean that they are pro-Trump. My son is 21 and is very much a middle of the road thinker in regards to politics (frustrates me in this political climate!). He has said for months that he didn’t know who to vote for because Biden is old and he doesn’t really agree with Trump, either. After Trump was convicted he said he couldn’t vote for a convicted felon. But is considering third party because of Biden’s age. He just sees what is on tik tok. Some of which is likely exaggerated. They being said, I do worry that if Biden was replaced there would be a whole new wave of reasons why people can’t vote for that person. It’s risky to keep him and risky to get a new candidate. I wish the republicans were at least on the rails of the democracy and decency wagon so it wouldn’t be so stressful. ETA that I just asked if he would be more excited to vote for Kamala or Biden and he made a face, then said that he would prefer to be able to compare Biden’s record with Trump’s, or to know what “someone has done” while in office. I also get multiple texts and emails from Trump and Biden daily. I think I am on Trump’s list because I did a survey several years ago. I didn’t cancel because I kind of wanted to know what he was saying in his emails. But I just ignore them and the 100k other emails in my inbox) now.

This has a huge potential of happening with the twenty-something voters (voting third party). I think it will be a mistake to underestimate this section of voters. They know they need to vote. But between voting for Trump (felon) or old guy, I think they will just pick third party to have a clear conscience and not really understand what that will mean in an election like this.

That is a good way to put it. With my son, I don't think he really gets how government policies affect him (or could), despite me trying to explain.

One of the biggest problems is the Electoral College. It puts a disproportionate amount of power in the hands of the smaller population states and the handful that are swing states. Biden won some of those swing states by a very small margin. If those swing voters or undecideds choose to stay home or vote third party, it could be enough to tip those states to Trump. And then we are screwed.
Also, Democrat candidates tend to win the popular vote - but that doesn’t matter if you lose in the swing states. Look at how many Republicans have ended up President because of the Supreme Court or the allocation of Electoral College votes, even though they lost the popular vote. We cannot forget that WHERE the votes are matters as much or more than the totals.
People who post here are typically engaged and involved in the issues. But we cannot assume that everyone else operates the same way. There are LOTS of people who get most of their "news" from social media, people who don't question what they are told, don’t listen to debates or pay attention to the actions of their candidates. There is little fact-checking going on for way too many voters.
I have said for years that I will vote for a dead cat over Trump. And I will vote blue all the way, no matter who, because I believe Trump and Vance and Project 2025 and the people they will bring into government are that bad. But I bet we’d all be frightened by how many potential voters there are who don’t have a clue about the issues and what could result. Right now way too many are seeing an old frail man juxtaposed against a man who stood up and pumped his fist after an assassination attempt. Images can carry a lot of weight in a campaign.

I received a text from trump's team, and I wrote back that "trump is a crap weasel." Never heard back from them. Did the texts really stop? I'm surprised they didn't keep sending them because you responded. They did! Now I wish they would stop on the other platform, but I refuse to write Biden is a crap weasel to them. I've hit Delete and Report Junk but I still get texts. But yeah, I haven't gotten any texts from the republican platform since 2020

I'm not sure this is true. My boys are 19, 22 and 24. They may not be typical, but they and all of their friends that I've talked to as well as extended family in the 20-30 year age range are all passionate about abortion rights, climate change and gun safety. They're not crazy about the choice and would prefer a younger candidate, but they understand the importance of this election and plan to vote blue, no matter what.
