As someone living in CA I’m at a loss what is do terrible about this man. So what’s the reason? What am I missing? There are a myriad of complaints about him. Right now the biggest problem is he and Harris are both from California. Other people who don't live in the state who don't like him would be voting against him. Just like people who didn't like Biden but voted for him as a vote against Trump. There was a huge recall about him surely you remember the complaints from that time. Yes the recall was voted down, but a lot of it was because people didn't like the alternative. Ah the recall. Some guy up in the top part of the state didn’t like the fact Newsom wasn’t a fan of capital punishment so he started a recall petition. Some rich Republicans in So Ca caught wind of this petition and bankrolled it. It happened at the beginning of the pandemic and a bunch of Californians didn’t like the policies Newsom was putting into place to protect their asses from getting COVID signed the petition and wasted millions of taxpayer dollars on a recall election that he won handily. You can believe people didn’t like the alternative is why he won but I believe people ca,e to their senses and realized what a waste money it was over nothing and voted to end it by voting for him. But you have no specifics in the myriad of complaints to share?

Let's stop debating California options. Even leaving out the political death wish if she picked someone also from CA, the electoral college makes it a non-starter as she would be giving up California's electorates which everyone knows she would never ever do. 12th amendment people! Or I suppose the actually winning of the election is now of no consequence.

Serious question. What is meant by “commi-fornia”? That sounds like something the right would say. That is what the right is saying!! They are saying California is a socialist, communist state and Newsom is the leader. And they won’t vote for someone who will turn this country into a socialist state like California. OP - This is what is out there. Not my views or opinions, just what is being said out there about California and Newsom. You really need to read the comment sections whenever there is an article about California/Newsom. You will see the “hate” out there. Do you think CA is a socialist/communist state? In the comments do they give specifics as to why this is such a terrible state or do they just say it with nothing to back up what they are claiming like facts? They take the “because I said it, it must be true” attitude.

Are the majority of them valid complaints? No, I don't think so but it doesn't matter. Perception is what matters here and the fact is people don't like him. Do I think he's a communist? I'm not going to sit here and list all the reasons why people don't like Newsom. You know what they're saying. It doesn't matter whether it's true or not The fact is it's being said.

He showed his full support for President Biden even when lagging in the polls. What have the other Democratic Governors done in support of the president? What are they doing about climate change? Anything?

As someone living in CA I’m at a loss what is do terrible about this man. So what’s the reason? What am I missing? Let’s start with 2020 and the Covid lockdowns. Everyone was told to stay home, businesses had to close, meanwhile he was caught eating out at a fancy French restaurant. When he came into office the state had a huge surplus, now it is has a huge deficit. Growing crime and homelessness. He ran on changes to medical and mental health programs but nothing has happened yet. The latest law that schools don’t have to notify parents about their child’s gender change. I personally don’t mind the guy. But lot of people just don’t like him. I don’t know what news source you watch/read, but you should read the comment sections on some of those articles. You will see how people really do not like him! Ah the pandemic. It was actually the Bay Area that shut down first and Newsom shortly after that shut down the rest of the state. London Breed is the mayor of SF and working with other mayors in the Bay Area came to the conclusion to shut down the area. Why am I telling you this? Because Mayor Breed went to the French Laundry for a meal as well. Not very bright on their part. But in early March 2020 before everything shut down a cruise ship left SF. A couple days later the Port Authority gets a message from the ship that they had 20+ passengers with COVID and wanted to bring the ship back and unload all the passengers. Working with Newsom, it was decided it was too dangerous for the ship to dock in SF so it would have to dock some place else in the Bay. They decided on Oakland. The ship docked, and they got all the passengers off and the ship and crew sailed off into the sunset. I have often wondered where that ship went. Anyway when trump found out that Newsom was getting the sick folks off the ship his response was he wished they had stayed on the ship because now his COVID numbers would go up. Newsom’s goal was to keep the folks in this state and on the ship safe and get help for the sick passengers. The fact he did something dumb like eat at the restaurant didn’t change what he did during the pandemic to keep people safe. And thank God he didn’t have trump’s attitude toward the pandemic. What did Newsom do with the money? Spent it on programs in the state. Sonoma County got $18M to deal with a homeless encampment. At least they didn’t create the deficit wasn’t created by giving tax cuts to the rich. Crime is down and homeless has to be handled by the individual cities and counties in the state, with help from the state. I think why he is telling the cities and counties they need to dismantle the encampments after the Court Ruling is forcing the cities etc to come up with a plan that works. I’ve been waiting 40 years for someone in the area to come up with a plan. Maybe this time they will

Too much homelessness, drugs, high cost of living, too many taxes and regulations, etc.

I don't think Buttigieg is qualified to be president. He doesn't have enough executive experience. A governor of a state has executive experience. What executive experience did Obama have? Did people have reservations about his lack of experience? Do people feel like he performed poorly as a President because of that? Yes, I think he lacked experience. This lack of experience showed in foreign relations, specifically Syria.

He is the governor from a state that will vote for Democrats. It is also a state that is HATED by every red state in the country. While this hate is ridiculous it still is a fact. I could list similar facts about Texas (of which I am a resident) but you don't hear me suggesting Abbott. At this point the pick has to be about securing swing states and independent voters. Either Harris wins or it is game over. Let me see if I understand this. In choosing a running mate, experience doesn’t matter if the person in question can possibly get votes from one state. Um no, I said that experience does matter and getting votes from a swing state does matter. The governor of CA is not going to help the ticket and he is not being considered.

Um no, I said that experience does matter and getting votes from a swing state does matter. The governor of CA is not going to help the ticket and he is not being considered. Sorry to disagree with you but that is exactly what you implied. IMO. The fact is that some governors have more experience than others because of the state they are governor of and issues like climate change. The talk on this thread was it was more important to pick a governor of a swing state for potential votes rather than the actual experience this person would bring to the ticket. And yet Pete Buttigieg was dismissed from being considered because of his lack of experience while ignoring what experience he does have. Which was more than enough to qualify him to be VP. IMO So the story is, only a straight white governor from a swing state need apply for a potential VP position. Experience is secondary as the most important qualification is this person is from a swing state. And I doubt very much that Newsom is on Harris’s potential list of candidates because she knows that if he decides to run for President it will be for president and not working his way up by being a VP first. So we are going to agree to disagree.

Cooper is out. Roy Cooper has withdrawn from consideration for VP. The exact reason is unknown. CNN reports it may be his age or that NC state constitution requires the lt. governor to fill in when the governor is not in the state. The lt. governor is the Republican candidate for governor Mark Robinson. If you have not heard about him, just take everything you know about the MAGA conservative movement and double down on it.

Yes, I think he lacked experience. This lack of experience showed in foreign relations, specifically Syria. This is a key reason that Obama selected Joe Biden as VP, to address his gap with foreign relations. Exactly, he also chose Hillary Clinton and John Kerry for secretary of state. Both had foreign policy experience. And you need to look at Syria in terms of the context at the time. President Obama was elected in part to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His reluctance to commit the US to another Middle East conflict given the situation and information at the time was reasonable. In addition, the UK and Germany were opposed to military intervention in Syria. Obama didn't hesitate to act if he thought US security was threatened. He didn't think Syria posed a threat to security and chose to prioritize humanitarian aid, diplomacy and multilateralism. Hindsight is always 20/20.

I really like Pete and hope to see him on a presidential or VP ticket in 2028 or 2032. The best place for him right now is exactly where he is as secretary of transportation. But maybe he could add this title - secretary of explaining things on Fox PeteReally American @reallyamerican1 We don't know if Pete Buttigieg will be picked as Kamala Harris' VP, but if not he should be appointed Secretary of Explaining Things on Fox News, because there's nobody better.
NOBODY.

Still my first pick for VP. He could help deliver PA, a key state. He's relatively young (50), personable, engaging, charming, charismatic and he appeals to moderates and independents. He's a good speaker and his approval ratings as governor are relatively high in.a swing state (57% approval vs 31% disapproval). He has the support of 42% of Republicans and 39% of independents in his state. He's ranked 8th overall for governor approval ratings. www.inquirer.com/politics/election/josh-shapiro-approval-republicans-independents-20240513.htmlJosh ShapiroCALL TO ACTIVISM @calltoactivism Josh Shapiro on Donald Trump:
"You ever see this guy? He kind of meanders over, can't really walk well, and he goes over to the flag and hugs the flag. I love the flag, but it’s a weird thing he does.
While he’s hugging the flag, he’s ripping away our freedoms."

This writer sings the praises of Whitmer, Raymond and Buttigieg while also being a realist and recognizing that the only choice this election is the most strategic one. The stakes are too high. www.nytimes.com/2024/08/01/opinion/vice-president-whitmer-buttigieg.htmlBy Frank Bruni Is America ready to have both a Black woman as president and a gay man as her No. 2? Few of the seasoned and sensible political analysts I know believe that 2024 is the year to find out.I don’t disagree. Keeping Trump from another four years in the White House matters more than anything else; Harris must make her decision entirely or almost entirely on tactical grounds. She must take the country as it is, not as it will someday ideally be. And while centuries of Republican and Democratic tickets comprising two white, presumably straight men should leave not just ample room but also a hunger for a Harris-Whitmer, Harris-Raimondo or Harris-Buttigieg ticket, I wouldn’t stake the survival of our democracy on it. I’m a realist.
How? With almost peerless communications skills. He went on Fox News last weekend to scold Trump on broken promises and Republicans on the selective use of crime statistics. It went viral. He went on Bill Maher’s show about a week before that and explained that some Silicon Valley billionaires like Trump because … they like money! It went viral. Buttigieg is a jukebox of perfectly toned, perfectly shaped and perfectly crisp rebuttals and arguments. Punch in your selected topic and let the music play.
I also know Buttigieg, 42, well, having first profiled him back in 2016. He doesn’t get the kind of rave reviews for his work in the cabinet that Raimondo does. But his journey there remains hugely impressive. In 2020, when he was still in his 30s and his main political credential was two terms as mayor of a Midwestern city with only about 100,000 people, he won the most delegates in the Iowa caucuses, placed a close second in the New Hampshire primary and all in all outperformed many seasoned members of Congress.
And who knows? Maybe he’ll be Harris’s surprise pick. Maybe Raimondo or even Whitmer, coaxed into the race, will be chosen. But probably not. And before they’re passed over, I want to give them their due.
