Another threat to democracy, voting and elections from Keri Lake, Trump and his supporters. They’re desperate to hold onto power by any means necessary- suppressing the vote, denying voters (voting roll purges), deceiving voters (Elon Musk) and intimidating voters. In NH, many of our polling locations are schools. But, unlike Arizona, schools do not have the ability to opt out. Our crazy Republican led state house determined that people are allowed to carry guns to polling locations. The majority of schools are now closed, or a day off for kids with teachers’ conferences or professional development days on Election Day. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/08/05/arizona-maricopa-county-schools-elections/For generations, public school gymnasiums, classrooms and cafeterias have been fundamental to American elections. But when voters in Maricopa County — home to Phoenix and more than half of this swing state’s registered voters — show up to make their voices heard in November, chances are, it likely won’t be at a school. Some will instead head to rented-out storefronts. Others to aquatic centers. Or even a funeral home.
In the eight years since Donald Trump was first on the ballot, hundreds of schools throughout this fiercely contested battleground county are no longer willing to assume the risks associated with holding elections. In 2016, 37 percent of county polling locations were schools, according to a Washington Post analysis of data obtained through a public records request. So far this year, it’s 14 percent.
Heightened school safety protocols and sustained attacks on voting systems and the people who run them — largely by Trump and his supporters — have prompted school leaders across America in both red and blue states to close their doors to the democratic process, according to interviews with nearly 20 school district leaders, county officials, school safety officials and election experts. In at least 33 states, the law says public buildings, including schools, can or should be made available as polling locations. In many districts, administrators now cancel classes on Election Day.
The challenge has been especially acute in Arizona, where Trump’s narrow loss in 2020 inspired ceaseless conspiracies, false assertions that his and other GOP losses were illegitimate and death threats against county leaders who oversee voting and the workers on the front lines of running elections. Trump allies like Kari Lake, a Republican who lost her 2022 race for Arizona governor and is now running for the Senate, have empowered self-styled election-fraud detectors who are critical of both elections and the public school system.
The trendline endangers the very voting method that Trump and many of his supporters have spent the past four years demanding: in-person voting.
The decline of school participation could confuse voters accustomed to stopping by familiar institutions to vote, experts said, adding an extra step to find a voting center that some people might be unwilling to take. Public schools are often core to the identities of communities big and small, and their proximity to voters and large spaces make them ideal to accommodate crowds and voting equipment.
Maricopa County has had to scramble to find replacements, often resorting to renting privately owned spaces, including those in shopping malls. Officials have budgeted nearly $1 million to lease voting locations this year, up from $53,000 in 2016.

I don’t think the campaign for Fat Elvis(the former guy) thought this attack on Walz through. They criticized Walz for a policy that allows convicted felons to vote after they’ve been released from prison. Without a policy like this, he would be ineligible. Only for the purposes of highlighting his felony convictions, it’s too bad Florida’s voting laws are not stricter, more in line with other Republican controlled states. In his case, he’s eligible to vote because he was convicted in New York and the Florida law defers to the state where someone was convicted. Under NY law, he is eligible to vote. If he had been convicted in Florida, he would not be eligible. Just another reason it’s unfortunate that the Jan 6 and documents cases have been stalled are are unlikely to be done by November. www.nytimes.com/2024/08/06/us/politics/trump-walz-felony-voting-rights.html?pgtype=Article&action=click&module=RelatedLinksMr. Walz’s “policies to allow convicted felons to vote” in Minnesota are evidence that he “is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide,” said Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign.
But critics of the former president were quick to point out that, if not for such policies, Mr. Trump himself would be barred from voting.
Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump White House aide who is now a co-host of “The View,” wondered on social media, “Does he not believe he should be able to vote for himself?”
Former Representative Barbara Comstock, a Virginia Republican who has been sharply critical of Mr. Trump, wrote: “Big reminder that Trump is a convicted felon with indicted felonies still to go to trial … and wants to pardon hundreds of violent Jan 6 felons but yeah, talk about felons, Mr. First ever nominated felon.”
Mr. Trump is registered to vote in Florida, which, when it comes to whether felons can vote, defers to the laws of the state where a conviction took place. New York allows people with felony convictions to vote unless they are in prison, so Mr. Trump can cast a ballot unless he is incarcerated on Election Day.
Stricter laws in many Republican-led states would stop him from voting until he had completed all terms of his sentence, including parole or probation — or, in some cases, require further action to have his voting rights restored even after he completed his sentence.
Ms. Leavitt said: “President Trump is eligible to vote. This does not apply to him at all.”
A bill Mr. Walz signed last year made Minnesota’s policy similar to the New York one, under which Mr. Trump is eligible: It restored voting rights to felons who had completed their prison sentences, rather than disenfranchising them until they completed parole or probation. Felons still lose their voting rights in Minnesota while they are incarcerated. More than 20 states have policies similar to the ones in Minnesota and New York.
Florida’s laws are stricter: If it applied its own standards instead of New York’s standards to Mr. Trump, a sentence of parole or probation would disenfranchise him this November.

I don't know if the media is afraid of Trump, but they seem unwilling to ask hard questions, they're not even asking easy ones. I know Trump is only granting interviews to right wing media, but it seems like there would be an opportunity before/ after rallies to ask questions. Or ask any of the Republicans in Congress. The media is really failing at covering Trump. Again. do a better job reportersReally American @reallyamerican1 When reporters ask why Trump has such a light campaign schedule (only one event), JD Vance says Trump is "very busy." HOW is he busy? He's unemployed! His only job is running for President to stay out of jail.
Do a better job, reporters.

JD Vance is missing the mark... He was also called out for knocking Walz's military service... Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) spent much of this week trying to preempt Vice President Kamala Harris's public events, turning up to speak in Philadelphia on Tuesday and Michigan on Wednesday before big Democratic Party rallies in the same locations. But some are arguing the strategy is proving problematic. *** In Philadelphia, Vance spoke to a group of people in front of a blue sign that was intended to be an attack on Harris, but had part of its messaging obscured by attendees. All that could be seen was the huge name KAMALA above Vance's head.*** But Detroit News reporter Craig Mauger observed that there was no massive rally crowd. He shared a photograph taken shortly before he spoke which showed police officers mingling and one woman off to the side. "Are we sure this isn’t Four Seasons Landscaping, Shelby County?" asked political consultant and former Joe Biden campaigner Cliff Schecter, referring to a much-ridiculed 2020 press conference held by Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani at the Four Season Total Landscaping business in Pennsylvania. www.rawstory.com/four-seasons-landscaping-jd-vance-laughed-at-for-michigan-rally-crowd/

TFG plane made emergency landing in Billings MT on way to Bozeman... Hydraulic issues.😊😊 Former President Donald Trump's private Boeing 757 was diverted for an emergency landing in Billings, Montana, on the way to his rally in Bozeman. According to a local radio station, the landing was required due to a "hydraulic leak." The aircraft, commonly known as "Trump Force Once," landed safely, and the former president is expected to take a private jet the rest of the way to his destination. *** The former president has boasted that the aircraft is more luxurious than Air Force One, although experts have said the 757 is rapidly aging and, being a retrofitted commercial airliner, is larger and less well-pressurized than private aircraft typically enjoyed by the super-wealthy. www.rawstory.com/trump-force-one/

As a governor, he has been somewhat reasonable. But, I think he has higher aspirations for senate or maybe president. Regrettably, once it was clear Trump would be the nominee, he kissed the ring and endorsed him. And apparently, now he's all in.

A lot has come out since then. Vance has said so many controversial things since then. Alienated so many people in the last few weeks.

Vance is now backtracking his 'parents with children should be allowed a separate vote for each child'. He claims it was only 'a thought experiment'... Yaa sure as he repeated it numerous times . Liar!
All we need to know is that it can all change after he would be in office, as is the same with all of TFG backtracking on abortion etc all!!

And it’s OK for Vance to change his mind on votes for parents or Donald Trump but VP Harris is a flip flopper, fake and a chameleon because she changed her mind on fracking and something else since her 2019 presidential bid www.cnn.com/2024/08/11/politics/video/sotu-vance-harris-chameleonKeith Boykin @keithboykin JD Vance: Donald Trump is right to question Kamala Harris’s race because she’s a chameleon.
But you called Trump “America’s Hitler” and then changed your position. So why are you not a chameleon?
JD Vance: People change their minds.

Which democrats supposedly said that we should allow kids to vote?? I think he might be referring to the vote to lower the voting age to 16 which progressives voted for in 2019. I guess he's technically right, but calling 16 and 17 year olds "kids" seems like an exaggeration. He talked about the possibility of 14 year olds voting, which the Democrats never voted for. justvote.org/majority-of-house-democrats-vote-in-favor-of-lowering-voting-age-to-16/

We had a discussion with oldest ds (25) at dinner tonight about lowering the voting age. He supports it and pointed out that 16 year olds can work and drive.
I'm not convinced. As the parent of 3 young adults, I understand that they can be impulsive and don't always make the best choices in their own lives. I'm not sure 16 & 17 year olds are mature enough to vote.

Both Jen Psaki and Michelle Goldberg pointed out that there's more to Trump's conspiracy theories and rants about VP Harris' crowd size than just his ego. He's setting the stage to delegitimize the election, if she wins. www.nytimes.com/2024/08/12/opinion/trump-crowds-kamala-harris.htmlBut even if the system holds, Trumpist officials are likely to cause delay, confusion and uncertainty over the election’s outcome, all justified by the big lie that America has a MAGA majority.
The people who refuse to accept that Kamala Harris’s crowds are real are telling us they won’t accept that her votes are either.crowd sizeInside with Jen Psaki @insidewithpsaki . One of the biggest stories of this presidential election right now should be that one of the candidates is spewing unhinged conspiracy theories usually reserved for the darkest corners of the internet."

www.nytimes.com/2024/08/13/arts/television/late-night-trump-rally-crowd-size.htmlFormer President Donald Trump falsely claimed in a series of posts on Truth Social that Vice President Kamala Harris had used artificial intelligence to create images and videos of large crowds at her rallies. “OK, OK, that’s one of those mom-and-pop issues for the single-issue crowd size voter.” — JON STEWART “First of all, I guarantee Trump has no idea what A.I. stands for. He probably thinks it’s a steak sauce: [imitating Trump] ‘She A1-ed the crowd. She gave out free bottles of steak sauce to people on the street to get them to come in. That’s why I was there. I was wearing a Kamala T-shirt and camo hat.’” — SETH MEYERS

Oh absolutely he's setting the stage. He tried to claim it wasn't possible he had lost in 2020 because of his "crowd sizes."

Vance, how to win the women's votes .. no, not really.. he certainly know how to put women in their place .. New audio reveals what Donald Trump's running mate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) said he believes is the lone purpose of women who no longer ovulate. The political news station Heartland Signal took to X Wednesday to share a podcast interview from April 2020 in which Vance discussed the role his mother-in-law played in raising his son. "It makes him a much better human being to have exposure to his grandparents," Vance said. "That's the whole purpose of the post-menopausal female," Eric Weinstein, host of “The Portal,” said.
