I despise Trump and have been a progressive/moderate all my life, depending on the issue. Biden and Harris screwed up the border. It got really bad and took way too long to correct. This was a huge gift to the maga crowd. Since trump doesn't actually care about the border, it was an even bigger gift to him. Harris is going to have to discuss this issue and talk about it in a way that just isn't about what a horrible man Trump is and how he stopped a solution. Border crossings are way down. My DS is very politically savvy and is really excited about Kamala. He just wasn't enthused about Biden and I get it- I wasn't either. I think this could be a game changer and get younger people involved. At first I was a little skeptical but I've come around to being more excited about the possibility of her winning. Same with my girls. The last time they were all "ugh, hate the prosecutor background" and now they are like "screw the prosecutor background - we need her and we're all in." And they said their friends are all the same. Exact conversation with my daughter yesterday. She's always been meh on VP Harris as she thought she was too moderate when she ran for president, but excitement has grown in the last couple days. And I got the whole rundown on the memes - especially the coconut tree ones! |

As crazy as this sounds, she might be right. Trump is so stupid, he could be mixing up the word asylum - those seeking political asylum and mental health institutions (formerly known as insane asylums). It would explain his false claims about countries emptying their insane asylum (his words) and the bizarre Hannibal Lecter ones

His entire platform wasn't about what he could do, it was about bashing Joe Biden. Now he doesn't know what to do since he can't just get up there and bad mouth Biden. He's not used to having to actually have a real platform to stand on. Exactly. It was all about retribution which appealed to a lot of his MAGA crowd. So you would think he could continue that part without Biden in the mix. You would think at a convention you would not be just dissing your opponent but also talking about what you are going to do and how the their lives would be better if elected. But he doesn’t get the fact that he is supposed to make others lives better and be a servant. |

Sorry for all of the political threads, but I didn't want to derail the Harris for President or Biden threads. Trump and the Republicans are absolutely losing their minds over President Biden passing the torch. They're mad their entire convention and campaign was all about bashing President Biden. They were not prepared and don't have a plan yet. Their candidate and policies are widely unpopular. They chose the wrong VP to run against Harris and are probably really regretting that choice. Instead of choosing someone like Haley or Rubio who could appeal to more voters they were arrogant and doubled down on MAGAism. MeidasTouch @meidastouch Trump’s social media feed is absolutely humiliating and getting sadder by the minute. He is not taking any of this well. The GOP cant easily pair Rubio with Trump as they are both FL residents. There is an electoral college rule that if both candidates are from the same state then those electors can’t vote for them. Which is why Cheney suddenly sold his house & moved in 2000. It’s much harder for an in office established politician to move to circumvent the rule. Trump can not win without FL ( which is why Harris will not pick Newsom because the Dems can’t win without California’s electoral votes and it would be very tricky for a serving gov to move & establish residence in time ) |

Had a very interesting conversation with my 21 year old dd this afternoon - she was talking about how powerful memes are to her generation and there was nowhere to go with Biden memes as he aged (and got further away from the Obama/Biden relationship), but plenty with Trump. She said that there's a lot of Harris memes now - and a lot about her being "worthy" of funny (and not disparaging) memes. My kid is convinced this can make or break the youth vote. My DS is very politically savvy and is really excited about Kamala. He just wasn't enthused about Biden and I get it- I wasn't either. I think this could be a game changer and get younger people involved. At first I was a little skeptical but I've come around to being more excited about the possibility of her winning. This will be my eldest's first time voting in a presidential election, and they planned to vote for Biden and now will vote for Harris. BUT, they do have at least one friend who was seriously considering voting third party when Biden was on the ticket, but who now is going to vote for Harris. Every time I hear of a young person or a group of young people who are now more interested in voting for the democratic ticket I feel more optimistic. As I said before, my concern was always the non-Trump supporting republicans and the independents, and not knowing where any possible prejudices may lie within those groups. But I failed to consider that for many young voters, this suddenly became far more interesting and encouraging than seeing the same two old white men battle it out again. For many it's absolutely that they prefer Harris, but also for some the historic nature of what's happening has sparked an interest as well. And I am very relieved to see it. |

She has permission from Beyonce to use Freedom, which is basically an endorsement from the Queen herself. People are hoping for something similar from Taylor Swift. Even if TS doesn't endorse her, there are SO many remixes with her music and the Coconut tree reference. Charlie XCX has called her Brat, and the SM team changed her website to brat colors (which I didnt even know was a thing!). That shows they understood it was a compliment and are speaking the language of the youth. George Clooney (asshole) has endorsed her, so I guess that's good since he wanted Biden to step down (why do we care or give GC any power on this subject? I suppose he's a donor...). I follow the guy who plays Hawkeye on TT (Jeremy Renner?) and he is constantly posting about this topic, and I LOVE IT. All she needs to do is point to the bipartisan plan that was in place and say they’ll pass that as soon as Trump is no longer pulling the strings in his party. And of course, we can also talk about why the border “got really bad” from two angles based in reality. One, quality of life and safety in several countries has been declining, forcing people who don’t necessarily want to leave their homes to leave. Two, Abbott stirred up unnecessary violence with his border stunt AND encouraged more people to come by promising them free bus rides into the interior is the country. Of course, Trump voters don’t tend to care much about reality. But Dem voters should. I also strongly believe that republicans continually saying the border is “wide open” led more people to come. |

While I do not think a celebrity should be the reason you vote for someone, and they should not have a say for the entire country, the endorsements draw attention. This will be another example (from the other thread) of "Liberal Elites" when something is said, like Jeremy Renner (he's also the MC in Mayor of Kingstown) endorsing Harris. TS had an article in 2020 that came out with why she was endorsing Biden/Harris and has publicly called out TFG. I would think a formal endorsement of Harris would be forthcoming from TS after the DNC. But who really knows? But, hey, the Conservatives have Kid Rock, so there's that. |
