With more than half the year gone (WHAT?!), I'm looking back on my expenditures, and forward to planned expenses for the rest of the year.
I think I overspent on yard and garden stuff.
I bought a lot of mulch, grass and clover seed, annuals (flower & vegetable & herbs), seeds, a sapling, plant food, etc.
I think this year will be a big expense year, but next year won't be because it will be more maintenance, and I'll buy less annuals and use more seeds (which did better than I expected, especially for squash and beans)
So, what did you overspend on this year?

Furniture,specifically our living room set. We spent double what we budgeted but fell in love with the set. It's a beautiful gray leather couch and loveseat.

My daughter’s dance. We just got back from nationals and I added up the season and it was absurd. We already had plans to cut back and that solidified it. It’s a bummer because she dances with a lot of girls that don’t have parents that don’t say no so it means she will be left out of things but she understands as much as a 15 year old can. I wish we could give her the chance to do it all but I’m not 1) asking others to pay for it via fundraising or 2) going into debt for it.

Groceries and medical needs Yes, both of these as well. One, groceries are ridiculous. I cannot ask my family to just eat dried beans and rice. but every single item has gone up. And medical, the number of things that insurance won't pay, or that the covered script is out of stock everywhere, but the substitute item isn't covered, and therefore is now OOP, is ridiculous. |

Education. Youngest DD is in medical school and the tuition is insane. She'll be in a really expensive area for clinicals so it's only getting worse. DH also puts money aside for grandkids' college funds.

Overspent and not sorry about it? Our Alaska cruise. We cruised in the Haven category on Norwegian Cruise Line and it was worth every penny, but it was a lot of money.
We overspent on car repairs and finally decided to get rid of that car and relace with a new one. I HATE car payments, but continuing to put money in a car on its last legs was getting old.

Groceries, diapers, and monster jam monster trucks for my son. He’s daytime potty trained so we’ve slowed down on the diapers but he’s still wearing them overnight.

Flowerbeds maintenance. Spent a great deal on groceries, not necessarily overspent but just because they are so darn expensive.

I don’t know that I’d call it overspending, but I have spent a lot this year on the house and yard: replacing old mulch, extra work on flower beds, perennials and annuals, new washer and dryer, a new garage door and opener just last week. I still have more yard/flower bed work coming in the next few weeks.

Probably band expenses for my kid. We upgraded her instrument and had it professionally cleaned ($300), spent $650 for her 8th grade band trip, $800 for one camp (she also had a merit scholarship for the rest), another $150 for a local jazz band camp, $600ish so far for private lessons, $70 for a pep band jacket, probably $150 for concert clothing and shoes, probably $150 combined for school band field trips, probably another $100-150 for music books, an instrument stand for home and a new cleaning kit. No regrets though because it’s something the kid loves and she’s good at it.

Car stuff. One car needed the fuel pump thingie inside the gas tank replaced (not fixing that myself as it involved removing the gas tank) and then a month later the ignition coil had to be replaced twice. Then the other car needed new tires... It's probably time to just replace the one car but I don't want to go car shopping right now and it's better for teaching kids to drive than my van.
I also had to pay my 50% of younger DD's braces before insurance would cover their 50%, which was about $5500.
Older DD's college tuition was actually less than both of those...

Vet bills. Every time it's a minimum of $200 (she averages 1-2 visits a month). Our dog has a lot of medical stuff going on. But I found an online meds place so her meds are about 1/2 of what the vet charges. Oh and her prescription dog food.

We bought a camper last year and got into a seasonal site at the very end of the season last year. This year we have spent so much on patio furniture, a smoker, flat top griddle, a gazebo, golf cart etc. Thankfully we are done with the big stuff and aren't buying anything else this summer. And maybe a few smaller items next year.

Ugh - general groceries - cost has just gone crazy. Also DDs sport -club and pathway fees , different kit for each- argh - she also made the national U17 team so we have had flights, hire car and accom costs every 2 weeks and also 5 days to watch her play in Gibraltar. Worth every penny but trials again in 10 days so the cycle starts again....
