DD just found out that she passed her licensing exam! She’s in school to become a doctor of physical therapy. This is her final clinical rotation and she took her licensing exam last week. She received the results today and passed! Not that I ever doubted her, but it’s nice to have that all buttoned up. She called a bit in the dumps last night with the stress of waiting, as they were going to have the results back until next week. But they came in early!
She has a week left of her clinic placement and then she’s officially done with school, tests, quizzes, exams, etc. She’s so happy and so are we!

Congratulations! Both of you.
Ds23, my only kid, arrived in Chicago today to start his first job in his field. He is so excited! As are we. But we are missing each other like crazy.

Congratulations to your daughter, she obviously worked very hard for this accomplishment!! A question: Do all physiotherapists earn the title of Doctor in the US? Or was she already a physiotherapist, and she completed a doctorate on top of that?

Congratulations to your daughter, she obviously worked very hard for this accomplishment!! A question: Do all physiotherapists earn the title of Doctor in the US? Or was she already a physiotherapist, and she completed a doctorate on top of that? There are different levels of PTs here. I’d say the most common is a PTA (physical therapist assistant) who works under a DPT. A DPT can diagnose a problem and develop a plan of rehabilitation, working with the patient’s doctor to do so. An APT most commonly takes that plan and works with the patient on the exercise plan. A DPT has a four year bachelors degree and then 3 years of DPT school. An APT doesn’t need another degree, but attends a APT program that takes about 2 years to complete. However, the DPT is relatively new (maybe the last 20 years)? Before that, I believe the schooling is similar to what an APT has now. (Hopefully I got all of that correct!)

Congratulations to your daughter! What is her specialty? She wants to work with chronic illness, especially those with connective tissue disorders. She had several clinical rotations in clinics specializing in Ehlers Danlos and the like. She is very excited—one of her mentors contacted her on Monday and told her that there’s a spot opening up in the clinic where she did her spring rotation. It was a good fit for her, so fingers crossed.
