Hi everyone! I'm posting from my "Staycation" hotel this morning! Emma, Molly and I are staying at the historic Calgary Fairmont Palliser ... the place is gorgeous! I will admit that I didn't sleep well because I am not a good sleeper and I didn't want to wake the dd's up with my prowling around ... they survived Our room is massive! Look! This morning we have already hit the "not so hot" hot tub, I have walked a couple of blocks to get Starbucks coffee and now we will go downstairs for breakfast. I will be making a call about the temperature of the hot tub ... We have spa treatments booked at 12:30 ... massages, facials and a "foot scrub" ... I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Since we live in Calgary, there won't really be any sight-seeing ... we will be boring and spend our downtime sleeping, snacking, drinking and/or playing on our devices. Here is me last night: After our spa treatments we will head back over to the pool and hot tub for awhile ... Dinner tonight is at an even fancier place than last night Here we are last night in the lounge ... me, Molly and Emma: I made a Starbucks run to the Marriott across the street Super positive thoughts going out to those who are experiencing health issues (and their familiy members!) What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have an excellent Saturday!

What fun photos and what a grand time ~ enjoy all the pampering leannec ! We're heading out for our Saturday morning walk. It isn't too hot yet so it should be nice. Dinner will be pot roast with potatoes, carrots and onions.

Happy Saturday dinner friends! leannec you and your girls are all so pretty!! Your weekend sounds AMAZING!! I'm jelly! enjoy every minute! sueg how is the headache today? **GypsyGirl** how is DH doing? Quiet Saturday morning here, DH left for the ranch yesterday, I have the house back in puppy free zone- slobber nose prints washed off both storm doors, balls in the yard picked up, house toys put in the toy basket, beds and blankets and stuffed chew toys in the wash, gate at bottom of the steps tucked away, floors vac'd and mopped. Now it's time to decide what I want to do. I'm meeting a friend for dinner this evening, I'm not sure where we will go, so dinner is whatever. I have such a long list of should do's but feeling pretty lazy actually. Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Great pictures leannec ! I love staycations only because I love staying in hotels..lol Enjoy your spa day with your daughters ! Getting ready to go out for a breakfast and then go shopping for a mattress. My son is in desperate need of one and I told him I would pitch in for one. No idea what we are having for dinner.

Hi everyone! I've been reading all morning. I'm still in PJs. I made Jeremy go get me a breakfast biscuit from McDonald's. Shh...don't tell anyone. I've broken my diet twice in 9 weeks. But today I just couldn't shake off my craving. Jeremy left for golf right after I finished wishing me a good stomachache from eating meat. I deserve it too, I feel so bad about it. I just really did not want to eat my oatmeal this morning.
I am supposed to go to my friend's house for a bonfire at 7. 7. And she lives 45 minutes away. I don't think I can go. I couldn't hold my eyeballs open past 9 last night. And then I was up early. I just have to accept that I am not a night person. I'll either be sleeping in her dogs bed or I'll be falling asleep on my long drive home. Sigh.
I'm not sure what is for dinner tonight. I have a couple of different things I could make.

Happy Saturday! I'm in slow gear weekend mode! Going to spend the afternoon with DH and doing some needlepoint. Whatever I do will be indoors as the heat index will be up to 110 again today. It's brutal, but then it's the same every August/September (my two least favorite months here). Dinner tonight will be rechauffe. Hope everyone has a good weekend! He is doing well. They did the tracheostomy yesterday and he was glad to have all that tube mess off his face. A couple of weeks ago they had to shave his beard/mustache and I noticed yesterday that he's got a good start on regrowing it. Starting to look more like himself! DD got there before I did yesterday and gave him a facial! He's a girl dad so he was just fine with it. On Monday they plan to start therapy for his swallowing and beginning to talk with the trach. Once he can speak it will be easier for him to communicate, although he is doing really well with the whiteboard now. Next week we expect them start trying to wean him slowly off meds and even the oxygen as he builds up all the muscles he needs. The sooner all that happens the sooner he is out of ICU and on his way to rehab! Thanks to everyone for checking on him and for your prayers and good wishes!

leannec , your girls look so happy to be w/you on your getaway. Did you bring Scrabble? Have great fun this weekend. I love the photos. Your dd's are so pretty. cadoodlebug , enjoy a lovely walk and really nice day. austnscrapaddict , I'm so happy that you're back at the table. Enjoy Saturday. bklyngal62 , enjoy your day w/your ds. jeremysgirl , it's OK to sometimes. That was something I was taught during my brief stint in the weight loss industry. The foods that you're eating once in a while are meant to be eaten like that and it's OK to do so. Have a fun day today. I'm still feeling under the weather, but better. I think the Paxlovid might be the reason why I'm not peppier, not to mention the constant metallic taste. It's my last day and I'm thrilled. Still, I will not complain, because it's such a minor thing. Ods is staying overnight and it'll be takeout night. Dh and ods can decide what they want. I need to get to the store (I'm no longer contagious) and put together a gift bag for ods. leannec , just let me know if you want me to start the thread tmw. I'm happy to do so while you have fun w/your girls. sueg , if you're up to it, please let us know how you are doing? I'm thinking of you, my friend. **GypsyGirl** that your dh is healing is very nice to read in the mornings. ((((HUGS)))).
scrappinwithoutpeas, my least favorite part of moving is when you have that last 1/4 of stuff and it looks like so much, but then you realize you're almost done. You will get it all moved, but it's a pita. I feel for you. Eye on the prize...new house. Everyone needs to have a happy, relaxing, healing day. Let's make a pact to do so.

Good evening all I woke up this morning with my right eye looking like I’d been in a boxing match - all puffy and swollen and I could hardly see out of it. The doctor on rounds said it was a common thing and asked the nurses to give me cold packs. They are really cool (sorry) - little gel pads that I put on ice, then place over my eyes. As I have two, one cools while the other is on my eye. Overall, I feel fine. Hardly any pain, just a lot of pressure. The doctor said the main bandage can come off tomorrow, along with the drip tube still in my neck coming out and I will be allowed to shower, which will be nice. I spoke with my dad this morning which was good. We hadn’t told him beforehand as my stepmum was so ill from her fall when I was diagnosed, and my mum died from a brain tumour many years back and we knew he would freak out. He understands now why, but was a bit annoyed at DH at first. I also did a FaceTime with the little girls. I was unsure about it at first, with their other grandma dying just a month ago, but DS said they needed to see a good outcome from a hospital visit. Sophia started asking me questions - was I feeling better, could I eat proper food etc. Lucia was the most talkative I’ve seen her online - she was all ‘Oma is in bed. Oma’s head hurts’, then she started to sing the song about ‘5 little monkeys jumping on a bed, one fell off and broke its head’ which I thought was very funny, coming from a 2YO! If all keeps going to plan, I should be able to go home Wednesday or Thursday.

Your weather sounds like a glorious winter day here! I don't do well with cold winter temps and snow. As a Southerner I am convinced my blood is just too thin to handle cold weather. I say this as someone who spent two winters in the second coldest capital city in the world! Enjoy your day!

Oh, no you don't have to do that ... we spend a lot of time relaxing in our room ... tomorrow our only reservation is for afternoon high tea at noon! The staycation/spa weekend is such a great way to treat and bond with your girls, leannec . jeremysgirl , I really like the Forks Over Knives approach to plant based eating, where meat/dairy/eggs are on the Avoid or Minimize list. DH is much more of a carnivore than me and was super happy knowing he could have an occasional steak and planned for it once or twice a month. DS turned on the gold medal women's soccer game so sucked me into watching. It was a good game but has really thrown my day off and I haven't gotten back on track. I did turn off the TV so I didn't get sucked into another event. Before the game started, I took advantage of the cool early morning to roast cauliflower and onions for a favorite Ottolenghi cauliflower, pomegranate and pistachio salad. After a quick discussion with DS, we will grill chicken sausages to go with it. Buns optional.

Happy Saturday!
I started my day out by taking myself to breakfast at our newest breakfast/lunch restaurant that just opened. it was really good but the portions were enormous! I think one meal could feed 3 people. Needless to say, I brought some home.
My mom has been diagnosed with pneumonia and the doctor was supposed to call in a steroid for her but didn't do it so my sister is taking her to the ER to see if she can get a breathing treatment and have them prescribe the steroids. Her o2 rate is really low and she's having trouble catching her breath.
For dinner, I was hoping I'd get to see the Seahawks' first pre-season game tonight but it's not on NFL Sunday Ticket and I was going to have my parents over but those plans are out the window. I bought lasagna and garlic bread so I'll take dinner to my parents if they don't keep my mom overnight.
Hope you all have a great day!

We are home from our short two night get away. We went with my brother and his wife and took the ATVs. The boys found some great trails to ride and had a blast. My SIL and I walked, talked and read on the dock. We didn’t do any cooking but ate all our meals from the takeout cafe at the cottage site. I ate too much and need to get back in my intermittent fasting routine. My mom stayed with Walker and he was so excited to see us this afternoon. leannec: How fun for you and your girls! Love the pics. Supper tonight will be grilled pork chops. Yes, back to cooking!

Looks like you and your girls are enjoying your stay. Enjoy tea tomorrow. I love high tea.
Met dd2 at the park to walk first thing and it was only 55!
Doing chores and I had a giant zucchini from my garden so I made chocolate zucchini cake and crispy zucchini rounds to have with dinner. We’ll also have grilled steak with salad and asparagus.

We are trying one more time to have dinner with mom. (I know I said the same thing the last two nights, but it hasn’t happened yet.) Third time’s the charm, I hope. We’ll go out to one of the cute restaurants in her city (Walnut Creek, for locals). Feel-good wishes to sueg and Mr. **GypsyGirl**. Have a wonderful weekend, leannec.

sueg - There’s no better healing force than grandkids! So glad you’re on the mend. I’m still helping out at my mom’s as her day helper fell and dislocated her hip. I walked this morning then went to get my bike out of the back of my car. The bike slipped from my grasp and sliced my shin quite deeply. So off to the ER for stitches and a tetanus shot. Luckily they weren’t too busy. They even provided a meal as I hadn’t eaten yet. The ER doctor was a family friend. He was able to glue the wound shut and send me on my way. Dinner will be sandwiches and milkshakes. I can usually get extra protein into my mom if I hide it in a milkshake.

bc2ca I'm trying this as an experiment for 3 months to see if I can move some health markers. I don't know if you knew that. I just want to stick as closely to the plan as I possibly can because I want to see if it makes any difference. I really did suffer after eating ice cream on my birthday. I think my body adapted somewhat so it was a bit shocked. I ordered some teeny tiny cast iron pans. One 3.5 inch and one 5 inch. They came this week and I couldn't resist making an itty bitty blueberry pie in the 5 inch. I'm so excited to present it to Jeremy when he gets home.

leannec how lovely to do that with your dd. Lovely photos. I haven't been to high tea in years. Loved going in the past. austnscrapaddict no sooner we clean our sliding doors than the nose prints return. LOL bklyngal62 You are a sweet mom! jeremysgirl my favorite breakfast takeout is paneras sausage, egg and cheese on a ciabatta. So I understand your craving! But it's good to fit in your wants occasionally. Love the pie! **GypsyGirl** how sweet of your DD! I pray he's back to talking soon. scrapmaven ugh! I pray you recover quickly. sueg yikes on the eye but I'm glad you are recovering well overall. cadoodlebug I see your pictures! Tearisci your poor Mom. So frustrating her doctor didn't come through. Praying for her. taylortroop glad you had a nice time! lucyg I like Walnut Creek. Judy26 how awful!! I hope it recovers quickly! DH and I were just discussing if we should do bike riding anymore due to possible injuries. I have a lovely bike but we usually go on trails with the pupper so haven't used them in a long time. A friend was biking leaned over to get something out of a wheel and minutes later was off to the hospital for surgery. This is in DH's mind but injuries happen when running or in my case just walking. Speaking of biking we just resolved the settlement for the hit and run with our insurance for DS's bike accident from early last year. Next step is settling with our medical insurance. On a better note DS just landed some new jobs in the entertainment field. So he's quite happy and so are we. Today we took out Vietnamese food for a late lunch. We were going to drive out to a city to buy some olive oil and balsamic vinegars we love and eat at a cafe with our pupper until we found out the weather out there. We decided that could wait for a cooler day.

leannec That place looks wonderful. **GypsyGirl** how long do they anticipate him having the trach? Praying he gets to rehab really soon so he can work his butt off to get home.Lol sueg sorry you have a blackeye, but glad you’re feeling OK Judy26 . OUCH. So today I spent the day scrapping at the home of the girl who does our weekends. She’s redone her house and now has a lot of space. I didn’t bring a lot with me just some things of Luella’s to get organized and some things from the whole kit and caboodle to put together. It was a really nice day because she lives 10 minutes from me. I didn’t have to worry about boarding Harper or finding somebody to come let her out. Not sure if I said anything but the doggy hotel she used to go to had been put up for sale. He was gonna keep it open until it sold. he and his wife wanted to be able to go and travel to see their daughter whatever they wanted and their grandchildren. Unfortunately , he had a massive heart attack in the airport in Minneapolis, eight weeks ago, so the kennel was closed. I have talked to him and he’s doing very well after bypass surgery. I did find a place for her in November for the scrapbooking weekend and now I am going to look at a place that was recommended. She won’t go back to where she was last January because she came home very stressed. A couple of the women that were also scrapbooking today talked about a long scrap weekend where they go to Chautauqua Lake, which is way down near Jamestown New York south of Buffalo and it is absolutely gorgeous. They needed a couple more people so my friend, Betsy, another friend Andrea and I are going to go. It’s not until June. it’s also near the birthplace of Lucille Ball Just had a quick dinner and now I’m off to our towns Walk of Hope which is a huge fundraiser for our counties cancer assistance foundation. I’m going to work the concession stand for a couple hours. I will also get luminary and put my dad‘s name on it.

christine58, thank you for your service to those people trying to eradicate cancer. Tearisci, this will not sound good, but it is meant w/care. I sort of hope that they do admit your mom so that she can get the help she needs to stabilize and get through this. Please let us know how she's doing. Marina, I know more than a few people my age who still ride their bikes. Though, I understand that sometimes it's not a good idea if you're prone to injuries. sueg, your little girls are so sweet and they just love Oma. I was unaware that your mom had a brain tumor. This must have scared the pooh pooh out of you. ((((HUGS))). Thank goodness you're recovering and will be fine. It'll be good for your dgds to see you recover, too. That way they can see that hospitals are not bad places. They can be good places where good people like Oma are taken care of and get well. Your whole family has been through entirely too much all at once. May your recovery be the start of better things to come for your family. Judy26, I hope that you're feeling Ok and comfortable. Yikes. jeremysgirl, did you bring enough forks for the entire tribe? That looks so pretty. We did a farmers market trip this am. I am off quarantine, but masked up anyway. I came home and haven't left this recliner. Honestly, I think that the Paxlovid is kicking my beheeny. Last dose tonight and then I'm done.

leannec that looks like such a fun weekend! **GypsyGirl** I hope you husband is out of the ICU soon. Have they given you any indication of how long rehab is likely to take? I channelled my inner Becki yesterday, and made some chocolate macadamia cookies, then a loaf of potato and onion bread. We had the bread for dinner, with lashings of butter, and Cup-A-Soup. jeremysgirl I admire your commitment to your healthy eating way of life. I also hope that you don't really feel any guilt or shame about having one little breakfast biscuit. It's easy to become obsessive about things like food and exercise, and it can kind of mess with people's heads if they're not careful. And in my case, being super strict is a sure fire way for me to fall off the wagon and go back to bad habits. sueg I would have been worried about the girls being scared or upset seeing you like that, but it certainly sounds like they weren't at all upset by it. I laughed about Lucia singing the 5 Little Monkeys song!
