I watched 2 episodes, didn’t “get it” and stopped watching. Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance. I tend to like humor like in Big Bang Theory, wit and sarcasm. I thought The Office would be like that.

It's hilarious. Character development is a big piece of the story and once you understand how each character plays a part of the story it all comes together. That being said, you have to enjoy one liners, dry humor, and sarcasm to appreciate it to it's fullest.

I kind of feel about Steve Carell the same way I do about Will Ferrell, I'm sure to some people they're very funny, but not to me. Both of them are talented actors (Stranger than Fiction is a fantastic film) but if it's a comedy I'll pass. I've never been able to get into the Office, I have friends who think it's hilarious. It may just not be your type of comedy.
FTR I don't care for the UK version either.

Get past the first 6 episodes! Those make up Season 1. They were really cringe.
Once you get into Season 2 or gets better. They make Micheal more likeable moving forward.

We were warned that we needed to push thru the 1st season, and good thing we were warned, because we would have quit after the first episode. We ended up loving it!
We tried the UK version, but just couldn't.

We tried a couple times and then someone told me we just had to get through season 1 (which is maybe 6-8 episodes). We pushed through and ended up liking most of it up until Steve Carrell left. We still finished it off and it was worth it though

We couldn’t get past the first 2-3 episodes.

I wasn’t entertained by it either and my ex fiancé kept saying I should be laughing because he thought it was so funny. I am glad I am not the only one who just didn’t fall in love with the show. Especially with access to so many other superior programs these days.

It's hilarious and makes you cringe. Season 4 has the best episode of the series, imho. I'm gonna spoil the title, so don't look unless you don't care. I'm sorry that you have covid. Yuck. Feel better very soon. The Dinner Party!

It's great. The CPR episode usually gets shown every time I attend a BLS class 🤣

I watched it a few years ago. I found it laugh out loud funny. And bring tears to my eyes also. It’s a go to if I want a background program on when scrapping. And, I still laugh out loud.

The first season doesn't do the rest of it justice. My daughter binges them once a year. But you do have to get past the first season. They do hit their stride.

I love it. It’s one of my comfort shows that I can practically recite word for word. Along with Parks and Rec, Brooklyn 99, Thirty Rock and The Good Place.

Oh yes, we loved Thirty Rock and Parks and Rec! Both great fun. Both also heavily dependant on the characters themselves and how they interact. Dry, funny, kind of cruel (Alec Baldwin to Tina Fey, I laugh every time).

You definitely Ed to get past the first season. IMO, it’s worth it. There’s good character development and most of the show is the interactions between the characters

Never watched the US version but to me, it (the UK version) is genius. Not belly laugh funny but brilliant.

It's clever but I find it cringeable. Not for me, either the UK or the US versions.

I've only watched the UK version the whole way through. The US version just doesn't have the same level of toe curling second hand embarrassment that the UK one does. The dance episode is a classic.

The UK one is not my scene. I've worked with too many people like the characters and I don't want them in my home. I can't stand Ricky Gervais either, who plays David Brent and is one of the writers here, but I do respect him for his morals and beliefs.

I haven't watched the US version, and I agree that the UK version is pure cringey Ricky Gervais genius. I kind of feel about Steve Carell the same way I do about Will Ferrell, I'm sure to some people they're very funny, but not to me. I'm hearing ya, and I agree! DSO is one of those people who think they're both hilariously funny, as well as John C Reilly.

I’m pretty sure the first US season was a copy of the first UK season. And a lot of the humor didn’t translate well. So it took more a life of its own after that first season, most noteably the character Michael Scott became less of an asshole. And like someone else said, character development is a big thing in this show. If you push through and start liking it, you will fall in love with them all. Even Michael Scott, even though he is pretty unbearable in the first season. I had to push through the first season of Parks & Rec, but endes up loving it.

Absolutly loved the UK version Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant captured alot of cringe stuff from a typical British office / workplace and & alot of the humour did not translant well to the American version , It helped alot that the Brit version did not waver from the ' Mockumentry'format & only lasted for two short seasons plus a xmas special then later on a film following David Brent again in a ' Mockumentry ' style .
I actully had a boss like David Brent He was proper cringe AND He played with His tie like David Brent did

I didn't watch it when it was on network TV. However a friend suggested I watch it a couple years ago. I was horrified but he told me to stick with it and now it's one of my favorite shows. It's up there with Parks & Rec for me.

I guess maybe we need to sit our butts down and get through Season 1. The first two episodes were so awful for me.
