Just a friendly reminder to my fellow CA peas who are in the heat wave zone to drink lots of water and be safe in the heat.
Remember to check on elderly neighbors or those with no AC or who have limited funds and don't run one.
Look for cooking centers and share those spots.
We are just over 100° today with Thursday and Friday hitting 111-112° 🫠😭👎🏻

Stay cool everyone!!
Today is probably our last cool-ish day, low 80's. And then it ramps up into the 90's by Thursday. UGH! I am done with summer!

Stay cool! i'm on the hill near the marina. it's hot. the afternoon "breeze" will be blowing but today it will be blowing hot. then it will just die around 6pm. that's when i hope the cloud cover comes in like it did yesterday. and let's not forget the Santa Ana's are just around the corner. ugh, i'm so over summer.

We were supposed to have relief this weekend but now the heat wave continues through next week. We won't see nice weather until the 16th when it is supposed to be 88°. High 90s and into 100s until then. Good gosh. I am sure Edison is loving this. We had another high electric bill. Never have we had them this high. I almost puked when I got my notice.

Gonna be 107 in a day or so. I hate this crap. I'm over it and the massive electricity bills that have plagued the summer.

I hate the heat. It was supposed to get to 100 but got to 103 I’m really not looking forward to Thursday and Friday as they are supposed to reach 109. It looks like by next Thursday it should be back into the 90’s. I thought it was supposed to be better by this weekend but nope. I have been watching our electric bill like a hawk and just when I’m feeling good about it this happens. It’s not going to cool down at night so I can’t even attempt to cool the house at night.
I hope everyone can stay cool and safe.

Thankfully we have solar with a large credit so we don’t pay the crazy high bills. We have a noon soccer game Saturday- should be around 100. AND we aren’t allowed to bring ez-ups due to space limitations. It’s 10’ square and we will totally share the shade!

I just got home from San Francisco. I was staying at Lands End and it was quite lovely, mid 70s. Will be in the 100s here, in southern Ventura County, by Thursday and looks to drop into the 90s by Sunday. A couple of nights the low is in the 70s. It is very seldom that warm at night here.

Hope everyone is doing ok!! Hang in there until Monday!
Last night I took the dog out at 11PM and it was still around 77. That is way too warm for this area.

Yeah, this is brutal. I never sleep with the AC on. I much prefer to have the windows open and fans on but in this heat I cannot turn off the AC. It was 80 at 2am this morning in OC. And now the weather app says it's going to get hotter Sunday (106) and Monday (105). There's no relief in sight in my neck of the woods until Wednesday. My fingers are crossed that we don't start having rolling blackouts. I will literally cry.

I just checked and we are going to hit 100 on Monday, at the coast!! Crazy. Yeah, I hope our power grid can hold up. The thing too is that many homes near the coast don’t have AC. I think half the homes around me don’t have AC. 😭

Also in the OC here. This heat is playing havoc on HS sports too. A new rule went into effect this school year regulating outdoor practices and games based on the heat/wind/humidity and what zone you are in. For some reason even though there are hills blocking most of the ocean breezes from our community we are lumped into the same zone as a beach city meaning lower acceptable temps. Of course I don't think anyone should be outside exercising in this excessive heat but with the new rules it just emphasizing the impact of the rules. I read that they will be collecting data and reevaluating temps and zones over time.
Our HS football game for tonight was moved to 7:30 and I think that is still going to be pushing it as it will be in the mid to high 80s.
And yes even aquatic sports are impacted too.
We had back to school night last night and I felt like I was sweating through my tee shirt just walking between classes.
We have a beach event for swim tonight and hoping it will be nice there.

We have the AC at 74°.
Going to 113° today.

We are just over 100° today with Thursday and Friday hitting 111-112° 🫠😭👎🏻 That is awful! I don't think we have hit 100º this year (yet - September can be fickle!) I remember one summer when it was well over 100º and right at 100º inside my house ... and HUMID! I had two little ones and we were miserable. It only lasted a few days, but it is still seared in my brain. It wouldn't cool off much at night. No a/c at all. Now we have central air, and it never seems so bad anymore! LOL Thanks goodness! Hope the heatwave passes soon for you all!

Went out to get lunch, it was 97. Saw a guy who had either just finished jogging, or was walking hard, covered in sweat. He looked to be in his 60’s. I truly wanted to yell at him to get inside and that he is crazy to be outside exercising in this temperature.

My best friend lives in Newport Beach, but not in the cooler coastal area of Newport. He has been saying for months that he wants to get air conditioning installed. His condo is in a retirement community and never had air conditioners when it was built because that area never needed them. With the weather the way it is now, he is miserable. Then when last summer was over, he forgot about doing it. Here we are back in hot summer again and he says his condo is uninhabitable. His sister has a huge house on the ocean front so he ended up staying at her house overnight because she gets the cool ocean breeze and he couldn’t spend one more night sweating while just laying in bed trying to sleep.
He called me about an hour ago, telling me the news program came on and reminded everyone to check on their “elderly” neighbors, so he was calling me! My area is currently 81 outside, but this house is so well insulated that inside is currently 71 inside with no air conditioner running. He is envious.
He has been planning his days around going somewhere that has air conditioning that he can sit in for a while. Today he has a couple of medical appointments so he will sit in the hospital lobby for a few hours and read his book between appointments. His plan for tomorrow is IKEA. He doesn’t need anything from there, but it is big and has lots of places he can wander around in and sit down. He had surgery recently and cannot go without sitting for too long. I reminded him of the restaurant in IKEA and he got so excited. He had forgotten they had one. He now plans to spend the whole day there and having both lunch and then dinner, accompanied by his Kindle. The IKEA has huge floor to ceiling windows in the restaurant and he can sit and enjoy the view in their air conditioning. And he absolutely hates shopping so I know the heat has been horrible for him to force him to plan a day in IKEA.
I have him seriously considering moving up to Oregon and living with me. We have had a few really hot days, but inside is tolerable and I have air condition if I need it. I have a feeling he may end up renting his place out for the summer and moving up here with me, just for the summers.

Lexica why doesn’t he go spend the day at South Coast Plaza. Lot of places to eat and sit around, people watch, etc. One thing about down this way is that a lot of the good shopping centers are outdoors.

It’s 111° in north OC. I mean this is not remotely close to the inland empire! And it’s only 2:30. Typically 4pm is maximum heat time. It was “only” supposed to get to 106°. 😭

I just checked and we are going to hit 100 on Monday, at the coast!! I am so grateful we have AC. So many friends in the coastal zone don't and we didn't with our first house here. I'm even more grateful to have solar so we aren't stressing the grid to use it or worrying about the power bill. We had back to school night last night and I felt like I was sweating through my tee shirt just walking between classes. It is such a CA thing to walk outside between classrooms. So many schools here are built for the normal mild weather, not the extreme heat waves or atmospheric rivers of rain we've had the last couple of years. I dropped DD off at the airport in Irvine late morning and it was 100! She hates the heat and is thrilled to get away this weekend.

Sorry if I messed up the quoting 😵💫 My kids swim and my DD is considering swimming in college. I've been doing research about college recruiting and came up on a parent commenting that their kid really wanted a college with an outdoor pool. It didn't even occur to me that that is not normal. I mean totally makes sense just not something I even thought about. My WI relatives visited a few winters (Feb) ago and got a kick out of the kids swimming laps outdoors in the middle of Feb.

So, there were two small earthquakes today. A 2.5 in Del Mar and a 3.1 in Ensenada. You've all probably heard the saying/theory about earthquake weather right?! Hot and still air.

OK, can it get any worse? There is a lithium battery storage facility on fire, it has been for a day or so. It is in the east area of the North County of San Diego, but today, the winds are blowing all the smells to the west. Everywhere in the north county smells like a chemical is burning and the sky is hazy. UGH! We are lucky because we have AC and can shut all our doors and window. But all the homes without AC?! I don't know what they can do. We even turned on our air purifier.
