I use this vehicle feature in the town so that I don't get speeding tickets. DH gets very upset with me. He thinks it should be used only on the highway. He complains, I ignore him and he gets pi$$ed at me. I have no speeding tickets after our cars had this feature.
Do you use cruise control on city streets?

I don't use cruise control at all. Me neither ... I would if I was driving longer distances on the highway but I like to have control myself for the most part ... I never use it in the city ...

Just want to add that there is too much congestion where I live to keep cruise control on for city driving. Plus, the speed limit is not the same all over the place. They can range anywhere from 35-55.

I think I have maybe used cruise control once in my life, and 99% of my driving is on highways and probably what people would consider long distance. 😂

I think the city is too stop and go to use cruise control effectively. I live in a fairly large city, but it is really chopped up. Not a lot of throug streets across the city and the few we do have, have a zillion stop lights that are not sequenced all that wll. I have and do use it on interstate driving.

I use it in our towns, but the main roads are highways and they drop in speed, have two lights, and little traffic.
No way would I use it on normal roads in the city

I very rarely use it. I just traded my vehicle and have not even checked to see if it is the same as in my last car, which I never really did learn to use. I hardly ever think about using it…I do have tickets, though, so there is that (but is has been some years ). 😉😄
I will add that ‘they’ say you shouldn’t use it when it is inclement weather/rain because you can be more apt to hydroplane. I also would not use it if it is snowing.
That is why things are called options…we can use them when we opt to. 😄

The only time I have used cruise control is on a long straight road way. And the only time I encountered roads like that was when heading to or from a vacation spot. There would be no point trying to use it around town.

In my 20-year-old car, the cruise control switches off every time I use the brake pedal. If I used it in town, I'd be resetting it all the time. Besides, where I live, there is too much traffic ever to get up to the speed limits. I do use it on the motorways when the traffic is light, but if it's busy there's no point for the same reasons.

There is absolutely no way I could use cruise control in the city or the entire surrounding Metro ATL area due to traffic. Braking is a constant necessity.
I don't usually use it on the highway either unless it's a long stretch of open road and that foot needs a break.

I use cruise control often. I always use it on highways and country roads. I also use it driving around the local suburban streets too, that have a 60km/h or 50km/h speed limit (which is about 31-37mph), but only if there are no hills. I don't bother if there are hills, because the car speeds up and I have to brake anyway. When our suburban speed limits were reduced from 60km/h to 50km/h, I found that putting the cruise control on made me feel less pissed off at having to go so slowly! I don't really understand why your DH would be annoyed about it??

I do use cruise control, both on highways and on local streets - especially if the speed limit is 25 and I want to stick to that. (I find myself driving at 35 no matter how hard I try to stick to 25).
I can’t understand why your husband cares what you do as it’s not affecting him. His behavior would really annoy me.

I use my cruise control all the time... even in the "city" i drive in... if the speed limit is 35, i set the cc... and if i get to a light then i get back up to speed and hit resume...
If im in a school zone then i set it at 20 to drive thru that 3 or 4 blocks because i dont want to get a tckt for speeding in a school zone...
I live rural so i mainly drive a highway from my house into town... and i use my cc as soon as i leave my driveway and get up to 77... then i hit set and drive that until i get behind a tractor or 18 wheeler...

I dont use it at all. I feel like my focus would drift if I didnt have to pay attention to speed. It isnt meant for the city, but if you want to use it, it shouldnt matter to anyone else

Mostly on the interstate. Occasionally on a state or federal highway when I won't be going through stoplights if the road is straight and not hilly (which aren't very many here.) Never in town.

I use cruise control only on highway stretches where I anticipate not having to stop or slow down regularly. I never even thought of using it on city streets. I find the ever increasing traffic around where I live prevents me from even reaching the posted speed, never mind passing it. All of that aside, I can't imagine why your DH cares. My DH will use cruise control any time he can, and while it would annoy me to have to keep resuming it if I was driving, I don't care about it if he's driving--then he's the one who has to keep resuming it, not me.

I've never thought to use it in any other situation besides interstate driving, but I don't think it would be wrong to use it in other situations if it's beneficial.
My car has adaptive speed control that senses the distance to the vehicle in front and slows down as needed. Love that feature.

There's no way that would work for me. I live in the middle of town and I can barely go 20 feet without having to hit the brakes. Between the heavy traffic, traffic lights and pothole-dodging, it is just not feasible.

I haven’t determine if I am over the moon with that feature yet (my previous car had that also) but I have had it have to use the emergency stopping part of that a couple of times…although I am not sure how much was the car and how much was me jamming on the brakes…but between the two of us it worked and I did not end up rear-ending the car that just decided to stop Willy nilly for no reason before entering the on ramp for the interstate.

I do use it in some city situations, also to control my speed. I use it often on the interstate.
Your DH is being ridiculous. You are driving. You get to decide.

I've never once used cruise control on my car and I've had it for 7 years. I'm not even sure where it is. And here in Texas, you'll get mowed down if you drive the speed limit on the freeways. They drive fast down here.

I am aghast at some of you that have never used or just don't use cruise control. That thing is my life! I use it everytime I get on the interstate. Long trips, short trips. Across town. That baby gets set. Also the state troopers like to take staycations on the bypass that cuts through our little burg. I set my CC and go about my business.
I have used it a few times in town. We are a pretty squared up town with a few stop signs and light placed strategically. A while back I was having bad back pains and some nerve issues. It was affecting my right leg at times. I could get seated comfortably in my car and set the cruise to the street speed limit. With the adaptive cruise, it would slow down as I approached slower cars. When I was coming upon a stop, I would drive as normal.

Do you use cruise control on city streets? Never. I feel like you need a higher level of observation driving within cities. Cruise control takes some of that away. Plus the fact you are breaking and just needing to slow due to traffic and stop signs, etc. Cruise control would be more of a pain to use. I pay attention to my speed and my surroundings. I have a digital gauge that tells me my exact speed an a easy glance. I'm with your husband on this one.

I've always used cruise control on the highway and most of my driving is highway. Adaptive cruise control is wonderful, I wouldn't buy a vehicle without it. The next town is only 7 km away and I put the cruise on everytime I go there. If I'm passing through there to go to my parent's farm I put the cruise at 60 kmh through the town part of the highway, then bump it back up. I can't see where or how I'd use cruise in a city.

When I lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma and it was just me and cattle in the pastures, I used cruise control because you just put it on and drove. Connecticut highways are way more congested, more start and stop, so it doesn’t really suit. I can’t imagine using it in town. I like to be in control of my driving.

I have a "lead foot" and used to get speeding tickets. It is difficult for me to stay at 35 in the city. I set it at 37 and am within the confines of police ignoring me in town. Of course I use it on the highway as well. Both our cars turn it off when we apply the brakes and then I have to use the "resume" feature and can go again.
I have told DH to zip it--I'm driving and he can do what he wants when he is the driver. I'll do what I want when I am the driver and he can have his chance when he is behind the wheel.

I don't use mine on city streets. There's too much stop and start where I am as well as speed limit changes. But I do use it on the highway.

No. Not even on the highway. I don't like the feeling that it would take several more seconds for me to react if something happened. No way in hell would I use it on city streets.
I live in DC and since we have the worst traffic in the entire US, that is why I won't use it. Your reaction time to get your foot from the floor to the pedal is too much of a risk. I do have adaptive cc but don't use it.
