Peanut butter, then jelly. Or, peanut butter on one slice, jelly on the other slice.

I made a pb&j for my grandson today and put the peanut butter on first. I always do.

What goes on first? The peanut butter or the jelly? I would hate to try and spread peanut butter on jelly. lol If that was the case, the jelly would go on the first slice of bread, and peanut butter on the second slice and hopefully you will be able to slam them together without the jelly rolling/sliding off.
I always do peanut butter first, then top with jelly/jam and that leaves an empty slice of bread to top it with to help avoid the jelly going anywhere.

A layer of PB on each slice and then jelly. The PB creates a barrier that keeps the bread from getting soggy.

Peanut butter first always - although I do them on separate slices. If you do peanut butter first and get a bit in the jar it goes in the fridge, but if you do jelly first and a bit get in the jar, it goes in the cupboard.

Peanut butter, it gives the jelly something to stick on.

I actually put the peanut butter and jelly in a bowl, mix together then spread on the bread. No jelly leaking out and for some reason I think it taste better mixed together.

To properly make a PBJ; 2 pieces of bread. 1 Glob of Skippy extra chunky peanut butter on one piece of bread, and a layer of butter on the other piece of bread followed by a glob of berry jam on the other. Cut in half lengthwise. Serve with milk, wet-wipes and napkins.

It's not something that I would ever eat, but if I did, the peanut butter absolutely 100% must go on first. But I woulds probably do what others have said, and spread each condiment on a different slice.

Also if you have never tried it fry the peanut butter and jelly sandwich just like you would a grilled cheese, it's wonderful. A friend's mother made them like that when I was staying the night many years ago, went home and told my mother how good they were fried and she made them for my siblings and they loved them.

A layer of PB on each slice and then jelly. The PB creates a barrier that keeps the bread from getting soggy. Exactly! DD2 would only ever eat the PB&J if it was made this way. She could not abide soggy bread! I rarely ever make PB&Js now (not a big fan of PB) but if I'm making one for myself or others I always do it this way.

When I could eat them, it depended on which container I grabbed first or which one was closer.
But jelly went on one side and PB on the other sandwich side. Then squished together. More jelly than PB.
And strawberry was ordered over grape. Especially if it was my grandma's jam. Mmmmm

neither.. I have never made one. don't plan to. Same, only seen them being made in films. Usually with the top slice being slapped on, not very appealing.

Peanut butter on 1 bread jelly on the other... and in my fridge we have grape, strawberry and mandarin.... there is a farmers stand on the drive that I pass going home....
I get homemade jelly from them... the also have fresh veggies and on the weekend they have breads... sometimes sourdough sometimes scones sometimes cinnamon rolls... i guess whatever the family feels like baking that weekend...

A very thin layer of peanut butter first, on both sides, then the jelly, to protect the bread from getting soggy.
I had way too many soggy PB&Js in my lunchbox as a kid, so when I started making my own, I adopted this rule and stuck with it, whether the sandwich was being consumed immediately or not.

On separate pieces, peanut butter then jelly. I rather get a little bit of peanut butter in the jelly (it's easier to get out) then jelly in the peanut butter. Yes, I try to clean the knife off but sometimes there is some there.
