peasapie.... I always enjoy your posts on the board, so it's fun to have you here! I love hearing about painting pictures and washing your car. Another reason I take breaks from this thread is because peAple talk about what activities/ work they're doing, and since I can't work (for now) and don't DO a lot, I'm jealous. But then I end up just rambling about dumb things like how much I hate Christmas Hee hee. By the way, I'm intrigued by all things chick-pea. As pasta, roasted, etc. etc.

stormsts....It was so sad to hear your MIL has to be moved to a more secure facility for her safety Hoping she has lovely nurses and aides caring for her! So happy that she wasn't injured when she escaped. This topic is very near and dear to me. I wish every vulnerable, elderly person in facilities had the best care.

Lexica.... Hoping you don't get too exhausted/ in pain from all that unpacking and yard work you have to do! As I read the description of your cooking, it sounded so yummy. I didn't know that cilantro and chiles could be frozen ! ? ! Thanks to you, I will start doing that. My extra cilantro always goes bad before I need it again, and I hate to waste food! I really wish sauteed mushrooms could be frozen, too! They are SO nice to have on hand, and I haaate using canned mushrooms!

Naps are one of the BEST things in life! Naps are a necessity for me because of my chronic insomnia ... and because I am semi-retired! Some days I have two!

Welcome to the table, peasapie and Lexica. A walkway to your porch sounds great. scrappintoee, I don’t know anything about Quick Quote, sorry. So glad to hear Linda and family are okay. Now I have to go take a shower, believe it or not. It’s only 2:30 in the afternoon.

we all need more hugs in our lives.. even if we have a lot.. can always use more. and more naps.. grownups want more naps!! (that's when you know you are grown up... naps are a joy!) Naps are one of the BEST things in life! I loved naps even in my twenties when I had endless energy. My whole family loves/ is obsessssed with NAPS! One of my best friends HATES them, no matter how sleepy she is, she just pulls through. If she gives in and naps, she says she's a complete B*Tch This is me. I do not nap. I have to be so sick I'm half dead to sleep in the daytime. 😂

I think I am going to make a big pot of taco soup for dinner. It doesn’t require too much effort since I have some cooked ground turkey in the freezer already. That just leaves chopping an onion and dumping in multiple cans of different kinds of beans and a couple of cans of diced tomato. I also have chopped cilantro and poblano chilies in the freezer too. I find it so much more convenient to just buy enough for several batches of soup, then chop it all and freeze it, ready to go for the next batches of soup. Fresh cilantro tastes better, but I don’t feel like adding a grocery store trip to my already full day. And a pot of soup will last me several days so that I won’t need to come up with dinners for a while. Fortunately, I love soup and don’t mind having repeats day after day if it is something I really like. I have been doing laundry all morning and I am already pooped because my sleep was too weird last night. I may not make it to the boxes, but I have to get that grass mowed. Sorry for interjecting on your dinner thread when I am not even a cook, but Lexica, I have a question for you (or anyone else). Does your taco soup come out like a real soup, or is it a more thicker substance? Mine comes out thicker than say a vegetable soup and I wondered it it was just me. I do like it, so not a problem, but still wondered about others' soup. Thanks!

Not to be Debbie Downer but I just saw pictures from the aftermath of Helene in Gulfport, Florida ~ it's in the Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater area and they are horrific. The thing that astounded me is the sand. It's like 6 feet of the beach was moved into the city. Water recedes, sand has to be moved. Just awful.

Hi it’s the start of a long weekend. It’s called Truth and Reconciliation Day on the 30th. We have no plans but could go for dinner or something. Tonight I am serving leftovers such as Costco chicken, spaghetti and meat sauce mixed, meat sauce alone, salad, and bunny carrots, and coleslaw because it’s extra vegetables and I like to have 5 with meals and tonight is only 4. There are also 4 pieces of yellow beet in the fridge that I cooked. I am eating really well on my eating plan and am going to weigh myself tomorrow. I still have a ways to go but the weight is coming off. I am happy.

@furrypea, mine was always thicker. And I didn't even use all the beans baked for. YDS loves it. Before boot camp and joining the Navy, we had it every week at his request. I haven't made it in forever and I just got burned out on it. I did like it and need to make it this winter. Add more water week be my solution.

FurryP , anyone w/an avatar that cute has to join us at the table. Come and take a seat. peasapie , we post about everything from the mundane( car washing, vacuuming the bedrooms) to the serious stuff to silly stuff. Take a seat and welcome. BTW-last week I watched one of my favorite classic movies, "Sabrina" w/Audrey Hepburn. Such a fun movie. Ok, I'm gonna share my flight experience yesterday, cause it was awkward as anything. Yesterday on my last leg home this lady takes a middle seat(flight was full) and as she's sitting down she asks me where I live. Uh? So, I answered w/my general region, which is big. "Duh. I know that. Where in particular, do you live?". I wanted to answer that I live in noneofyourbusinessville. She proceeds to tell me the weird things in her current life. She doesn't want advice or a place to cry. Her way of making conversation is to tell people all of her problems as well as all the good stuff. This went on and on. BTW-1/2 way into the flight she turned to the woman in the aisle seat and I was off the hook. My conversation starters are usually things like, "Wow. That was a busy airport". On the first leg of the flight the guy in the middle seat was around 6'3". I asked him if he'd be comfier in the window seat, so that he could stretch his legs a bit. Instead I should have told him all about my childhood. We've all been posting on the board for years and even if you're new to the dinner thread you're not a new pea. Even if you are, come and take a seat. On the board, we do know eachother somewhat and we share what we're comfortable sharing. You don't have to fill out a security check and tell us every single problem in order to post here. However, we're here to listen if you need support. Nor do you have to cook or eat. I eat white flour junk carbs only, because it's what I can tolerate the most. Yet, I host the thread 5 days per week. The only rule I've ever imparted is to please put any gross stuff in a spoiler, because some of us are squeamish and it's just the polite thing to do. Be respectful of the tribe. It is, afterall a dinner thread. Apart from that, enjoy the conversation. Again, there are no favorites, no tiers and no one telling you that are you not important enough to post. Have fun here. Relax and know that you're w/people who support you. It's what we do best. The hurricane is just devastating. My heart goes out to the people who have been affected.

It's wonderful to hear that you feel restored scrapmaven . And I'm glad you're feeling better too sueg - that sounded quite concerning. That's such a lovely photo Tearisci , and it looks like a gorgeous place behind them. lucyg enjoy your aaahhhfternoon tea daaahhhhling! tmarschall put me down for a copy of your cookbook too please! What kind of recipes are you planning to include? I know you're the Pie Queen, and I wonder whether you will include other dishes as well. peasapie your 50th HS reunion?! You don't look a day over 25 in your profile pic. This is me. I do not nap. I have to be so sick I'm half dead to sleep in the daytime. 😂 I don't nap either. Even when my kids were babies, and "they" said to nap while the baby is sleeping, I never did. That time all to myself was way too precious to waste on napping. This year is the first time I have napped since I was about 4yo - the first time was when I had COVID and lay in bed all day. The second time was last month when I had dengue fever.

I'm sitting at the vegan restaurant waiting for my black bean tacos. I had to take that dog to the vet at 5:30 and then by the time I dropped him back off at Chloe's I was like it'll be 8pm before I get dinner on the table. Tonight they had a special fried banana pepper appetizer. And I've had it before and is delicious. The dipping sauce is the perfect compliment. So I got that too.

Ha, why do I always forget to mention dinner, on the dinner thread?!
Yesterday (Friday) was a public holiday here, for the AFL Grand Final Eve. We love our football here in Melbourne! Unfortunately I had to work, because it's not a national holiday. DS had planned to have mates over here today (Saturday) to watch the Grand Final. He told me yesterday that the plans have changed, and instead he was having mates over that night. So DSO and I went to the shops and bought some food for DS and his mates to cook on the BBQ, then we headed out for dinner, to get away from the doof doof music in our backyard!
DSO and I shared: Honey Glazed Pork Belly - Slow-cooked, finished over open fire with a sticky chilli glaze Eye Fillet with peppercorn sauce and crispy chips Charred Corn - Smoky chilli yoghurt, ricotta salata, puffed quinoa
It was all really delicious.

scrappintoee, I should have addressed a comment you made about not posting sometimes because you're jealous of all the fun people are having. I'll sail in that boat w/you. Since I can't do nearly as much as other people I used to get so jealous. Now, I have a new priority and it's my work this year. I'm going to have as much fun as I can have and not measure the amount of fun. I'd love to have unlimited energy and feel great, but that will never happen for me. Nothing can fix this, but I see this doctor who can help me to manage the symptoms. So, I make the most of my energy when I have it. Instead of vacuuming, I work on a puzzle. I do chores, but a little bit each day, rather than a lot in one or two days. It's bit by bit. My kitchen is always clean and my house is tidy. My goals of enjoying life are being met, even if it's a fraction of what other, healthy people are doing. Make the most out of your life and your world and please try not to compare it to everyone else. You have chronic pain and have to budget your energy. I get it. You are not alone. ((((HUGS))).

I really wish sauteed mushrooms could be frozen, too! They are SO nice to have on hand, and I haaate using canned mushrooms! I have two batches of sautéed mushrooms in my freezer right this minute. They work nicely when added to a sauce or soup. They are not as nice as when done fresh to put over a piece of meat or something, and they are not as nice looking after freezing them, but added to a sauce or minced into a gravy, they taste delicious. I am with you regarding wasting food. Especially now that food prices are getting higher and higher. I either freeze something or dehydrate it to make sure I am using everything up that I possibly can. And when I get my worm bins going again, I will be putting all of my vegetable scraps in to feed the worms. Things like apple peels, carrot shavings, etc. that you really don’t have a use for in your kitchen are perfect for feeding worms. Also, when I was juicing every day, I would give them the pulp from the juicer that is nicely pulverized and easy for them to eat. And in exchange, you get lovely worm castings that are a fantastic fertilizer for your flower beds or vegetable gardens. The cilantro looks and tastes better when fresh too, but like you said, it is only usable for a day or two when you buy it from the stores. I use what I need when it is fresh and then chop the rest to freeze. It still tastes good.

I do like it, so not a problem, but still wondered about others' soup. Thanks! Mine comes out watery like a regular soup. I think the trick there is to make sure you rinse all of your canned beans. And use plenty of chicken broth. The one time that I was just not thinking and I dumped the beans into the soup pot right from the can without rinsing them, the soup was thicker and quite cloudy looking. And truthfully, I did not like the taste as much. I need the broth to be clear and plentiful because I add a bit of grated cheese and a spoon of sour cream right before serving it and that makes it taste fantastic, but does thicken it a bit. The one time that I didn’t rinse the beans, adding the sour cream to serve it made it thicker and just not as tasty.

dh came home exhausted from his hike.. so we made the guac.. (two big avocados) and I took the dog out for a quick walk.. and we got mexican takeout. they had it ready in 10 min. enough for tomorrow!!
I should define my terms. a nap is either a little sleep, a lie down, a 20 min rest to read.. or anything like any of the above.
my kids (who are in mid 30's) agree naps are the bomb. dh sleeps almost every day in afternoon. sometimes in morning too. I never sleep. but like it when I can lay down for a bit.
boring is ok on the thread. I think there is almost nothing so boring as figuring out what to eat 365 days a year. I love to cook I don't like 365 days a year of it. If I won the lottery, I would hire a private chef. along with a trainer.

scrappintoee, Quick Quotes is being glitchy for me lately, including today. tmarschall, I'm definitely interested in your cookbook. I love to read them as much as I love cooking from them. ntsf, I'm on team naps are a joy! FurryP, I'm not sure if this is what you meant by thick soups, but I personally don't like any broth soups that have a thickener added (usually flour or cornstarch). My soups are either broth based and lumpy with the vegetables/beans/meat or, if just vegetables, maybe blended smooth with an immersion blender. The smooth soups can be thinned with broth if too thick. A taco soup would fit in the first category for me. It might be thick with lots of things in it, but definitely needs to be eaten from a bowl with a spoon. My local BFF unexpectedly showed up to surprise me at yoga this morning. They bought a home in Scotland last year and have been using it for months at a time, so I hadn't seen her since May. She came home with me for a quick coffee and didn't leave until almost 4. Not much was checked off the To Do list today, but I did get chili and cornbread made for dinner.
