If the shoe was on the other foot, I would accept it was my own doing, not blaming him. He's been talking about this for weeks on end. He knows they were coming and he had text/email from the state, stating the same thing. Anyway, I did text him too see if he wants me to bring it too him.. he has been delayed. No, I'm not saying he should blame you at all. But just imagine if you didn't get a chance to vote in this very important election because he withheld information from you. It wasn't withheld though.. He is very capable of getting the mail as easily as I am. It was there. In front of him. I'm a busy person too. I run the house without him. I pay the bills, run the kid to work, pick up the kid from work, clean the house and on and on. I'm not going to add on 'remind husband not to forget to vote'. Not my job. Why is it I know when it is time to vote and I knew the ballots were mailed? Because I got the text/email. He got the same. His choice to ignore the rest. Anyways, the point is moot, he's not voting anyways.

Why do you think it's okay to withhold his mail, especially his ballot? I'm sorry but I don't agree and find this childish. We are all free to vote for who we think is best or who we agree with. Withholding his ballot so he can't vote right now is taking away his right as a US citizen and if my husband did that to me I would be beyond pea-livid. She didn't withhold it. she put it where the mail goes?

Dude, ya'll act like he's not a grown ass adult male. She sorted his mail, like usual. He even got a text from the Election office.
If my DH was voting for TFG, I would not have held his hand to take the rights away from me, our daughters, or everyone else in America he wants to fuck over. You can choose to have your own opinions, and you have the right to exercise your right to vote, it's not my job to put the gun in your hand.

He was never even registered until about 20 years ago. He complained about stuff but I told him, he can't complain if you don't vote. I think he thinks his vote doesn't really count. I mean by the time it even gets to our state, it is usually already over. (from what I can remember). I think he has voted a total of two or three times.

samantha25 i don't usually vote because I truly believe my vote does not matter... based on where i live and the people who surround me.... there are not enough blues in this area to ever make a difference... and that is true all the way down to the local school board level... its just the truth of where i live... I will vote but i honestly only registered to vote for Hillary Clinton wayyy back.... didnt matter then... wont matter now but i will go do it... But i have never believed in the saying you have to vote to complain... thats the beauty of freedom of speech.... voter or not... everyone can voice their dissatisfaction

You are in Colorado, correct? Ballots were mailed on Oct. 11th and I received a text message that ballots were sent. We did indeed receive them the next day. Ample opportunity to know about voting. Oh well. If you snooze you loose...lol My guess is you feel this way, but also feel voter ID is wrong? Like… for alllllll the things we need ID for… that’s ok. But to literally vote- requiring ID is asking too much? When you share a home and a mailbox with someone that is a level of intimacy and trust that shouldn’t be “you snooze you lose.” Damn. ID is required to register to vote. You shouldnt need to provide it again when you vote. Also requiring Voter ID at the polls has been ruled to be a poll tax and should not be allowed. I dont have to provide ID when I vote absentee, just my signature on the envelope. Just as prior to voter id requirements, I used to provide my signature at the polls.

It’s not your responsibility, and I would say that regardless of who he was voting for. I might try to be a bit more persuasive if he was voting blue, though. 😜

Im saying that voter ID requirements have been ruled to be a poll tax in the past. And it is unnecessary to require ID at the polls as you provide a signature when you register that can be compared if needed just as they would need to do if there were a question about an absentee ballot

This is an interesting thread to me, just in how mail distribution works within homes.
Everyone of voting age in my home has received various letters about election, and I absolutely DO want every one of those people to vote since they are all in complete agreement with me on who is best suited to run this country. (And we do all plan to vote. We've checked that all is well with our registration, etc.)
However, every time voting related mail arrives, whichever one of us collects the mail just sorts it out and places it in each of our "official" mail spots where we all pick up our mail. None of us point out if someone has something we deem important. There's your mail spot. There's your mail. You're set. Whether it's a bill, a package, jury duty, or a ballot, my mail goes to my desk, and I find it there and deal with it. And no one ever says a word about any of it, for the most part. (DH likes to look over my Postcrossing postcards, so that's one time when he might mention something if he brings in the mail.)
So the thought of my spouse (or my kid, as the case often is here) specifically saying to me "You got your ballot in mail. Your ballot is where all of your mail goes." isn't something I would expect to be done.

How did she withhold information from him? She checked the mail and put the mail in the same spot she always puts his mail. She didn't withhold anything from him. For God's sake he got the text his ballot arrived. She said several times she put it in the same spot she always puts his mail. I get the emails about what mail is coming every day. My husband is the one who checks the mail. When either one of us is expecting something we check with each other to see if it was in the email or the mailbox. We have both been asking each other daily if our ballots have arrived. The histrionics on this thread are crazy to me. Calling her petty. Saying she is withholding information. Accusing her of being dishonest. Of not being a good spouse. Good lord.

We got our ballots last week and I put them in the same spot where we always put our mail. I voted and took my ballot to the drop box the very next day. I know my husband is voting blue down the ticket but I’m not going to hold his hand to get it done. He’s grown up and can handle his own ballot.

Yeah, text him to let him know the ballots came in and ask if he wants you to mail them to him. Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and he didn't let you know the ballots were in before you left on a long trip and didn't see them. While I agree he is an adult, and he didn't make sure he checked the mail before leaving, some men are like that. Clueless and expect you to help him manage life. LOL! Colorado sends a text and email that your ballot has been sent. If you don't have either communication, why is it up to someone else to get the ballot to them as you know it will come in the mail? What if it's a jury summons or some other kind of mail? Come on, he's an adult. agree with this. Colorado will also send reminders and once you do vote, let's you know you voted.

If it mattered that much to him he would have paid attention to 1) the text, 2) the email and then 3) the fact that it was sitting RIGHT THERE for him once it arrived. He knew it was there. He just didn’t care. In our house, I open all the mail and distribute it as needed. DH wants it this way because I run the office for his business and a lot of our mail is related to that. He has said he doesn’t have the patience or want to take the time to sort through it. Anything that I can just handle, he wants me to handle. Anything that is junk he never wants to see it, he just wants it gone and not cluttering up the house. Anything that needs his specific attention I leave it in a particular visible spot where he will see it immediately when he gets home. I usually don’t say anything about those things, it is already out in the open waiting for him to look at it. If he doesn’t look at it and misses something, oh well. I did my part. I don’t open obvious things like birthday cards but I do put them on the Look At Me pile. Anything for DD, I just hand it to her because she almost never gets any mail.

I don’t open obvious things like birthday cards but I do put them on the Look At Me pile. Anything for DD, I just hand it to her because she almost never gets any mail. I actually brought this up at dinner, without any mention at all about it being a politically divided household, as not to throw any bias into the mix. I just said the ballot arrived, it was placed on the table for the person it belonged to, and they went off on their travels without it, and was the person who brought in the mail at fault for not having specifically pointed out that the ballot was there. And no one here thought there was any reason for it to be pointed out to an adult that their mail was there. Especially something like a ballot, which one would be looking for if one wished to vote, and which one would also likely receive alerts about being mailed out/delivered. So I at least know my household wouldn't be upset with me for not escorting them over to their ballot to be sure they attended to it. When the conversation was drawing to a close, and I told them the resolution was that the person wasn't voting, then they did guess which party wasn't getting a vote based on me not seeming to care about it.

ExH only voted red one time after we were just married in the late 90s. I've always voted blue so we cancelled each other out that year.
When we were married, we lived in a mail-in ballot state. I almost always got the mail so I would have probably said, our ballots are here because voting was a big deal that we wanted to instill in DS.
I don't think it was the OPs responsibility to tell her DH who obviously didn't care and was told actually by text. That's on him, not the OP who isn't his babysitter.

DH said when I call you have that ballot ready and I will tell you what to fill out. I said SURE WILL HONEY... ALL in good fun... I won't be touching his ballot, although I will steal the sticker out of it. Colorado I have never ever ever shown an ID to vote. I never been to a polling place either, so no idea if you have to show your ID. I would assume you would. But mail in.. you sign it and mail or drop it off. I always drop it off and get a text or email saying they received it.
