I am going to vote early tomorrow and then I will do my best to shut out the noise for my own mental health. It has been interesting to see political ads here in Texas. Normally, the republicans don’t bother with TV ads because the race is no contest, but every NFL game we have watched the past couple of weeks has ads from both sides. It is very clear to me in DFW that things are not as one sided as they used to be.
TBH - I feel like both sides have moved towards focusing more on divisiveness and defending their parties at all costs vs the real issues and problem solving. Very tired of people being more focused on being right than getting things right.
I did listen to today’s episode of the Smartless podcast on which they interviewed Tim Walz. He was awesome and I really enjoyed listening to him in a more informal setting like that. If you have not listened to it, it will make you smile and feel like you are just listening to a very authentic person who happens to be running for VP!

photo op in Asheville today Whoops, it was more than a photo op! He was awarded with a french fry pin. My bad. Donald Trump was awarded with a “french fry certification” pin as he surveyed the damage of Hurricane Helene, in North Carolina Monday. North Carolina Republican Chuck Edwards joined Trump at the event in Swannanoa, bestowing the Republican nominee with a fake award for his few hours pretending to work at a McDonalds Sunday.* “I know that you perfected your skills behind the counter, a day or so ago, and it was my honor to present um, the uh french fry certification pin,” Edwards said, noting that he also owned McDonald’s franchises. The awkward ceremony was particularly dystopian given the destruction feet behind them.

I'm a lifelong Democrat and I have never voted for a Republican, but I am getting multiple texts daily to vote for Trump. Makes me wonder if they are feeling the squeeze. I have never gotten texts for Republican candidates in the past. Not a snowball’s chance in hell that’s going to happen. I will be voting early this week for Kamala. I am feeling very anxious about it all. Without thinking about it I booked a short weekend cruise for Veterans Day and we’re leaving on Wednesday. I sure hope I'm celebrating. If not, at least I have the drink package.

I’m still hopefully optimistic that Kamala will win and we’ll be okay.
This is the first presidential election that I can vote in - I’m Canadian and moved here in 2001, but it took 10 years for me to get a green card and I wasn’t a citizen until 2021. I don’t take any of that lightly and I’m very happy to be a dual citizen. During all those years, DH was employed and we paid into social security even though we weren’t eligible to collect it. When HE screams about illegals I know in my heart it’s not me - not because I followed the rules but because I’m the “right” color.
I get so outraged about all the rhetoric about illegals, like they show up and collect welfare and social services. I truly feel people come here wanting something different, better, stronger and that’s what America should be.
I think the election will be a clusterfuck. Blue will win but the MAGA supporters will revolt and we have to be ready. I have a ton of alcohol to get me through
It’s wild too how blind those people are. I have a Canadian friend I went to high school with who posted MAGA 2024! on one of my posts. Dude - you have 2 daughters so what the hell? And also, you won’t have to live under the horror show you want to see win. So basically STFU. There’s really no point in arguing now - we just have to show up and make it an indisputable landslide and send those mouth breathers back under their rocks. We know they’re there but we can be better.
I may be calling in sick from Nov 6 to whatever to just drink and watch the results. Feel free to join me.

Even if Harris wins, there is something very wrong in the US and I don't think it's going away. But yes, it's after midnight and I can't sleep with worry.

I'm in Australia and I'm worried about your election results! If the orange toddler gets elected again I think the world is in for one hell of a rough ride. I'm crossing my fingers for Harris/Walz.

I’m in Germany and feel the same. It is particularly scary here, as we know that Trump will not do anything to stop Russia taking Ukraine, and then what? With him also saying he’ll pull out of NATO, that leaves Europe on their own if Putin decides to keep pushing.

I'm also in Australia and it's become my obsession. 4 out 5 videos in my Tik Tok feed are about this in some way or another. I honestly cannot comprehend how anyone can support such a deplorable person. And I feel sad about it for you. It does not make sense to me how the polls can be close. There are literally so many reasons not to support him. Every single one is a disqualifying reason. Not including the fact that he is clearly has cognitive issues. They can say they support his policies (although you wouldn't know what they were apart from reading Project 2025) but ultimately, by voting for him, they are justifying his abhorrent behaviour.

Until the election results are in. Does anyone else feel that way? I don't expect it to get better until November 6th. Absolutely because when the orange one loses, it’s gonna be just like before. Some of the comments that have come out of his mouth recently I just don’t understand. The comments he made about Arnold Palmer and his “manhood“ and the fact that he used a very derogatory term towards Kamala, someone needs to step in and tell him to shut his mouth

Like an idiot, I've started watching political You Tubes before bed instead of arty videos, and I'm paying for it with a super high anxiety level. I can't listen to any more polling. Yeah I’ve had it with the polls. Every day it’s a different result and I’m alternately relieved or anxiety riddled. my 50th HS reunion is a couple of days later. It’s taken us 6 months to plan it, and I’m hoping the evening isn’t ruined by a country at war within itself.

I think that Kamala will win, but I am concerned that Republicans will try to overturn her win. And I am very afraid that Republicans will win the Senate, which will almost certainly cause problems should there be SC vacancies. So, I am anxious about the election.
I want to remind folks who are not obsessed by politics that if Harris wins, and if we get a red House and/or Senate that we will almost certainly have gridlock for 4 years. If you don’t want that-and who does?- vote blue all of the way down ballot. Remember what a dumpster fire the House in particular has been lately.

Honestly, I'm over it all. I think the polls are wrong. I think this will be decided on election night (November 5th). I think the Electoral Map will look like 2012 in Harris' favor, maybe even better. If you watch this Politics Girl video she talks about how the polls people are seeing are being manipulated to make it appear the race is close or Trump is even winning. Because if people see the polls showing a close race they may decide not to vote or will vote Trump because he is going to win. Look at how many polls are affiliated with right wing GOP groups. Of the last 15 general election polls released in Pennsylvania 12 of them are affiliated with right wing GOP groups. The Republicans are literally flooding the battleground states with these polls, 27 of them in the first week of October. I watch PG and I also watch a Dr Arlene on TT, and she has been very assuring about what the polls are actually saying. Still, they always encourage people to not assume, and to get out and vote. I also watch 2 astrologers, and both are saying (at least since June when they caught my eye) that they don't see Trump ever leading again, and that Harris's transits (on her chart) are better. They also interestingly said they didn't see Biden re-elected, and that was before he dropped out. Now, I don't live my life based on charts and moon signs, but I did think it was very interesting. One of the women is from Austrialia, so she has zero "interest" (ie, she can't vote, she is not a US citizen), but is indicating the same thing as the other American. I watched a woman in TN in tears talk about how she usually can vote super quick, but she had to wait over an hour in line yesterday to vote. So many people are coming out, so hopefully that is a good sign. Me, too. I was actually just thinking about making a thread about it on my way home. I am feeling so discouraged and dejected with all of the misinformation and people believing lies (or clearly supporting what Trump and Republicans are saying). How do we combat this? I naively thought things would go back to "normal" after Trump lost in 2020 but clearly things have just ramped up since then. First we need Harris to win in November but how do we move forward? Maybe I should start another thread but how did Germany move forward from the Nazi's? You would think that with the access to so much accurate reporting and information now that we would be better off. But, it seems that social media and the internet has done just the opposite. It is now just a place for people to find the opinion that you are looking for, regardless of if it is true or not. People who listen to Trump are living in an alternate universe and clearly we have not been able to challenge that. They are the ultimate gaslighters in saying that WE are the misinformed, completely ignoring facts. I am just so frustrated! And I am worried that it will be another 2016 and then what? I don't think the country or the world can get through another four years of Trump (or Vance). I was thinking about that a couple of months ago. I know the US provided a lot of economic relief, and Germany was split in two. I was wondering who would come into the US and split it up? Won't happen bc of our military and whomever is controlling it, but I do know from visiting Germany last year, a lot of regular townspeople supposedly didn't know about what was happening in the camps nearby, and to this day, its not like they (the modern citizens) really want to talk about it. There is a level of shame. After the US Civil War, we had the Reconstrution Period, but to be honest, that always seemed to be glossed over in school, so I have no idea how the US was "put back together." A wiki search offered this: "During this period, three amendments were added to the United States Constitution to grant citizenship and equal civil rights to the newly freed slaves. To circumvent these legal achievements, the former Confederate states imposed poll taxes and literacy tests and engaged in terrorism to intimidate and control people of color and to discourage or prevent them from voting." So I suspect if possible, there will be a slew of legislation passed to ensure voting rights and election certification.

Stressed beyond measure. I doubt we’ll have a confirmed answer by 11/6. And it doesn’t matter anyway. If she wins … by a little, by a lot, it won’t matter which … they will lose their minds and try to start WWIII in this country. I hope I’m wrong about that, but I don’t have great faith. In 2020, I had my Biden/Harris yard signs stolen twice, in a town that votes heavily Democratic. I didn’t even bother putting them out this year. No point in showing the mob where to hit first. You read my mind Lucy. I wish I could swoop all of my loved ones out of the country for a few months just before election day, to watch the happenings from afar. Just fyi, that's not fun either

I have told my husband I wish I could just be sedated and revived when it is official that we have a Democratic President. Hopefully that will be on November 5, but I am worried it will be the election in 2028. I know my life won't be over if Trump wins, but I fear for my family members of child bearing age, I fear for LGQTBQ people, I fear for the financial aspect of his presidency and the havoc that could wreck on people everywhere. I think him being elected again would be much worse this go around. Exactly my feelings! I’m usually not an anxious person but I even told my family, I think we need to food and supplies ready for a week at least. I’m afraid of what’s going to happen as well.

Last night I told someone that I was really looking forward to ending my abusive relationship with Donald Trump soon. I think we’re going to know that Kamala Harris will be our next president before we go to bed on November 5th. I think it’s our job to be critical if/when the Republicans refuse to accept election results.
I have a much needed hair appointment scheduled for Election Day. I’m going to make Tim Walz’s tater tot hot dish for dinner in my MN shaped baking dish.

I don't expect it to get better until November 6th. My thinking is that it will take longer than November 6th to know who the next president will be.
I am having such anxiety. However, I don't think it will be over November 6. If she wins, he and the minions will be screaming rigged and I think more Jan 6 activities. If he wins, heaven help us all.
I 100% agree with this.

My sister is working for the Harris campaign in a swing state and said she doesn't think we will know until the 10th. She also said there is less young voter engagement than in 2020, which is surprising to me. I hope she is wrong!

I just feel kind of numb right now. I'm too cautious to get too excited because I feel it is going to be very close. We got burned so bad in 2016 and that feeling is still with me.
In 2016, I was living in DC right in the thick of it and we started out on a pub crawl down Pennsylvania Avenue. Our first stop was the Hay-Adams hotel across the street from the White House and we were all in good spirits and feeling good about things. By the next stop, things were looking a bit more grim and by the end of the night, we ended up at the CTO of the United State's house drunk and sobbing. I can't go through that again!

I actually Googled this a few days ago and according to Wikipedia it has actually happened five times in total, but twice in my own lifetime which is disturbing. Especially when the losing candidate actually received millions more votes. I think presidential elections should be decided by a simple popular vote since the electoral college has effectively disenfranchised millions of voters twice in a single generation, and especially since it was the same party both times.

I really have a hard time understanding how he could have more votes this time than in 2020. I have a hard time understanding how he can have any votes at all.
