I was going through Amazon Prime to see what's available to watch so I can hold of on frndly for another week or so. There some good stuff: Christmas on the Bayou (love this one -- plus Ed Asner, the little kid actor is not annoying) White Christmas (the classic, not sure I've ever seen it but I'm going to watch it). Love Actually (not sure I can watch this again. I used to watch it every year but the infidelity is just too much now that I'm older. It's just too painful). The Holiday Inn (I've never seen it but how can you go wrong with Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby? Well, you probably can as it's from the '40s but I've added it to the list). The Family Stone (the cast is incredible. Luke Wilson. All you need to know). The Holiday (!!! Love Jack Black. It's so good). And last but not least, and only because I can't keep looking at Amazon Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. (the absolute best). LOVE Emmet Otter! And the mashed potatoes. lol I tried to see the original puppets last week in Atlanta but the exhibit didnāt open until this week.

Any of the Christmas movies on Hulu any good? Lots of Lifetime movies from years past.
I watched The Love Letter today.
It was good and the lead male is very hot.
But I'm not a fan of that actress. She was in something the last couple of years and she's just no Winnie Cooper or the other one.

OK.
In my quest to not start Frndly too soon, I searched for movies that are on Hulu and found a list online.
I watched -- It's a Wonderful Binge. Wow.
Wow.
I can't describe this strange, really strange, movie that was somehow heartwarming and batshit crazy at the same time.
I really want a drug advent calendar.
Whoever did the set design and props is 100% amazing.
I don't know if I can recommend this or not. I'd watch it again, not yearly, but it was good. Hilarious and dark.

blemon Thanks for the It's a Wonderful Binge recommandation! I'd somehow never heard of this one and one of my fave Christmas movies is on the dark, drug-fueled side of things (In Bruges) so this sounds like it'll be a great fit for me. 'TIS THE SEASON TO BE IRISH // Dreamy landscapes ā
, goodlooking and quite unproblematic love interest ā
, cutest sheep named Lambchop ā
. I had a wonderful time watching this one despite it very clearly having been filmed in the summer (if you are not familiar with Ireland or Northern Europe in winter, you'll likely not notice, fear not). This is a wonderful change of scenery and very good use of filming in foreign lands (which Hallmark doesn't always nail). Definitely put this one on your watch list and get that half a bottle of Baileys left over from last Christmas out to make some Irish coffees while you take in the seaside cottage life. āāāā CHRISTMAS WITH THE SINGHS // I expected a comedy built on cultural dissonance but got a dramedy built on cultural dissonance. It has smile-inducing moments but this is a story of misunderstandings and ultimately compromise that doesn't veer into a string of bustling misunderstandings of laugh-out-loud dimension. I thought the lead couple was cute but overall, this movie thinned out quite quickly. Still enjoyable, just not as enjoyable as it could've been and some matters brought up early in the movie didn't actually get resolved. Adjust your expectations and you'll have a pleasant enough time. āāā

A REASON FOR THE SEASON // This one seemed like it would be a standard mid-tier movie I could have playing in the background as I folded laundry and did some ironing. I thought nothing of the preview and I got a beautiful surprise as I started to watch this. I forgot about the ironing and got roped in. This has quiet charm from start to end. It is a lovely, under-the-radar movie about the gift of giving and the growth one does as they learn what giving truly means. There are no dramatic scenes in this one; the lead or their romantic interest won't get big time upset because of some hidden secret and slam the door on the way out. Everyone is a reasonable adult. And in a world now dominated by billionaire boys intent to cause harm and prop their fragile egoes, it was so nice to see kindness from mega rich female characters. Plus points for diversity: women holding important positions, African-American Santa for the town children with a big dark-skinned nutcracker. Put this one on your watch list for smiles, positivity, girl power and good vibes all around! Also, Kevin McGarry is charming as always. āāāĀ½

Also, the Hunks of Hallmark are featured in People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive issue out now in the US. Where's Todd? In other news, we just started watching Christmas Ever After on Hulu. Not sure what year it came out but the lead uses a wheelchair and they even show her driving. Wow! I do not think I have ever seen a movie with a person who uses a wheelchair as the lead. Go Hallmark or Lifetime or whoever made this. So far, so good, although my daughter finds her too chipper. I was like, you have not seen enough of these movies...

The first Christmas series by Hallmark filmed two years ago and that we were expecting to drop for last year's Countdown to Christmas. Instead, they waited for Hallmark+ to launch to premiere it. Holiday season on a cul-de-sac with focus on each one of the six families living there. Features Ian Harding.

JINGLE BELL RUN // Competition holiday movies can be hit or miss. This is a hit. It's fun, dynamic and very engaging. We get Andrew Walker country dancing in a cowboy fit š¤ , a gay side romance, loads of fun facts about the US and the cultures that make up the US (which I, as a foreigner, really enjoyed), enough space during the competition for warm and fuzzy moments, the brainiac + jock trope done right, an ode to education and even a little nod to France as an unexpected surprise. Just wonderful! Except the carbon footprint. š¤« Highly recommended watch, obviously. āāāā

I luuuuuuuuuurvve "Finding Mr. Christmas" so much! You'd think they'd really knuckle down on the actual acting-related challenges but no, they also have ridiculous hokey completely non-acting challenges, too, and those are really my favorite. It also makes me giggle because I tease my husband, who works with mostly 20somethings, and call whatever colleague he's talking about some form of "-axton" e.g. Braxton, Chaxton, Mraxton... and there's a contestant on there named Daxton!

The first Christmas series by Hallmark Looks so good! Unfortunately it's not on Frndly. It looks like I can watch Finding Mr Christmas on Roku but not this one. I'll poke around. I just finished 'Twas the Date before Christmas. I found it delightful. It was just what I like in a Hallmark movie: Cute, I can figure out the plot in the first five minutes, and the kids aren't overacting. Also, I hate too many references to cocoa and this had none! The trailer for this one looked really good. So glad to hear your review. I finally caved and started up my Frndly subscription. I added as many movies from the PDF as I could find. The one about two Carols did not appear. There was another that would not let me add it. But so far, I got most of them. I'll have to wait a while for the later December ones to come up.

Operation Nutcracker is the one it's not letting me record since it aired already and will not air again this year. They want me to pay for Hallmark+. I'll have to look into that. Since the two series and that are all on there, it might be worth it.
UPDATE:
I can get a 7-day free trial and that's probably enough to binge them all.

We've got quite the list, thanks to this thread, but he ventured out on his own. Also, I'm sorry, but we tried "Hot Frosty" and had to shut it off. :X I already have trouble watching Lacey Chabert, but add in the (to me) terrible acting of my beloved Ted? DH even removed it from our "Continue Watching" thing, which is pretty harsh if you knew DH. /laugh We might let DDs pick tonight because they seem to think our taste is terrible. Teenagers..

dawnnikol Let us know what the cool kids picked! š I had a long day and was so not planning on staying up late but then I gave the first episode of HOLIDAZED a try. Just checking it out for a few minutes, you know. And bam, 40+ minutes have passed and I watched the whole thing! Oh, this is nice. I'm too tired to binge episode 2 the same night but I absolutely would have otherwise. Very enjoyable, easy watch, loads of drama building up already. Hallmark were right in venturing outside of the film format for their holiday releases.

It was really good.
I second that this one is one to watch this year.
-3/4 of a star for the roommate's weird mustache year 3 or 4.

dawnnikol Bwahaha! You know I'd totally watch that unironically, right? š¤Ŗ So, I know with the state of *gestures all around* everything and particularly the post-election depression in the US, feel-good is very much needed to survive *gestures all around* all of this. I'm going off topic here but I feel so pressed to recommend this although it's not holiday-related because the third (and final š) season is currently airing and this show is so, so good, so, so special. Somebody Somewhere on HBO (and Max, obviously). I have waited religiously for every episode to drop each week of all three seasons. If you need a comforting watch and are ok with something very much not Christmassy, this is my top recommendation and has been since the first season aired.

Ok, Scouting for Christmas.
I enjoyed this. It was cute.
I didn't quite feel the chemistry between the two leads but the cuteness and good acting of the kid more than made up for it.
The makeup was a bit overdone, amateur, not natural. Less is more, Hallmark. Fire that makeup artist.
And why did her bras not fit? At the very least, the lead's bras should fit. I don't care what the budget is, they have way more resources than I have and they should be able to figure that out.
I'd like to see more of that ex-husband, btw.

I especially enjoy that this isn't another "20-something finding their way". Spoiler-ish: I did find the Mom's make-up / botox( ) distracting in her scenes at the start. I don't know what was going on there, but even DH was like "what in the world is that?" Otherwise, recommend!
