I’m always amazed how long the post takes when I send things to my friends in Canada.

Shocker. They always seem to be striking. And it always seems to be around holidays.

I signed up for a tag swap on another site, and my buddy lives in Canada. What is the alternative to mailing it to her, can I us UPS?

They're always striking before Christmas. I signed up for a tag swap on another site, and my buddy lives in Canada. What is the alternative to mailing it to her, can I us UPS? Yes, we have UPS and FedEx. We also have DHL, but that might get handed over to Canada Post.

They want to have mail delivery 7 days a week so Canada Post can compete with other companies. That means employees may have to alter their schedules. Boo hoo. I only have a community mailbox it’s not like he even has to come to my house. UPS and FedEx and Amazon are so much better.

I hope someone will also post when it has been resolved. I have several holiday cards that I need to send to Canada this year.
As to the comment about "they want mail delivery 7 days a week." For those of us not in Canada, who exactly is the THEY? Customers? Management at Canada Post? The Canadian government? The carriers?

Canada Post the company wants to stay relevant and a shipper of choice. Dragonfly from Amazon and Lululemon with FedEx ship 7 days a week.

I mailed something to our son earlier in the week. As of November 15, the package is in Chicago awaiting it going through Customs and then going to the Canadian postal system. This makes me wonder: Where will the two postal systems store all that mail? Will multiple 18 wheeler truck trailers be filled and parked somewhere until the Canadian system gets moving again? The Canadian packages will not be moving, so that side of the border will be frozen in place, but on the US (and other foreign nations) the packages and letters will still be moving towards the border. When the mail gets to the border, will the US fill a trailer and park it aside until the next trailer is filled?
The customs inspectors on the border are stuck--they come to work, but no work is going to be done. Will the packages from the US get inspected and then piled in the trailer?
Whatever goes on--there is sure to be a BIG mess when the mail starts to move again.

It’s the union I have no time fore. We see him at the mailbox sometimes.

You are lucky to have a regular postal person. Ours is a training route and we have someone 2-3 weeks and then we have a new one.

He is so cheerful too. The guy before him was adorable. It’s not the carriers, it’s the guys higher up and the union.

They lose hundreds of millions every year. I don't understand how they are the majority owners of Purolator who makes hundreds of millions every year. I live in a small rural town and Purolator is so good and reliable. We had a regular guy for years, he would come withing 15 minutes varation everyday. The new guy is within the hour. We occasionally FedEx around here and (almost) never have UPS.

I am happy it is after the Sephora sale but what about holiday shopping in smaller places for Black Friday and Christmas shopping? I have 3 Post Offices near me. Two are staffed by Shoppers/Pharmasave Canada Post employees and magically they are often on a break when I need them. I found out about this new one and he is always open. I really like him.

Librarylady, can you track the parcel? Once it gets to Canada you most likely can’t track it here.

It is in Chicago. I expect it to be there until the strike is over.
Regarding tracking in Canada...sometimes the tracking gets updated and other packages end tracking when Canada Post gets the package.

Tracking works when I get an email saying it’s been delivered.

They better get it together! I'm a Canadian (add it to some spreadsheet so I don't have to say it all the time) and I'm going to my sister's house in Kitchener at Thanksgiving. I'm mailing stuff to the rest of my family from there - it's outrageous how much it costs from the US so I bring it with me and mail it there. Worst case I'll leave it at sista's house and Venmo her the $$ to mail it later.
On that note, a funny story - my other sister is always way behind so she sent me a Christmas gift in March with a Happy Bat Mitzvah card and a note saying "did you know you can't buy a Christmas card in March??" I kept that because it made me laugh, that's totally her, and we're not Jewish.

As per usual! I can’t remember the last time I actually mailed something through Canada Post. I'm in the 2Peas Holiday card exchange. And I also mail cards to family and friends who aren't close to where I live. I just got my Cricut Mats on Thursday. When I saw Amazon was sending through Canada Post, I crossed my fingers. I was hoping they'd be using Dragonfly for just in case. I still have a lot of cards to make so at least I got my knock off Cricut Mats.

Hopefully the strike doesn’t last long.

Shocker. They always seem to be striking. And it always seems to be around holidays. As a fellow Canadian I am going to say that in unfair. The last strike was in 2018. 6 years ago. Prior to that there was a strike in 2011. They worked 2 years without a contract and they have been bargaining for over a year. I am a government employee about to enter my 6th year without a contract. There is no incentive for an employer to offer a contract, they can stall and stall as long as they want. Groceries, gas, power, mortgage rates, etc have all gone up. The only thing that hasn't is wages.
