I hate Walmart with the heat of a thousand suns, mostly because of their business practices RE: their employees and vendors but also because most of the Walmart stores I’ve been in have been messy, dirty, dimly lit and just ew. DD wanted to go there to look for something specific a friend in another state said their Walmart had, so we went to the one in our area to check. (Spoiler, they didn’t have it.) As per every other time I’ve been in there, it was once again all of the above. DD (who has maybe been inside a Walmart maybe four times in her life) said something to the effect of, “This place looks like a dirty warehouse. There’s so much stuff it’s just overwhelming. And it smells in here.” Yup. On the flip side of the coin, Target is my happy place. Almost all of the Target stores in my area (and there are a lot of them) have been recently remodeled within the past few years. They were clean and bright before, now they are even cleaner and brighter. The merchandise is nicer, especially their house brands of items are great quality. Recently I’ve noticed that they have more cashiers working at the registers since they put a limit on the number of items people can take to the self checkout so I don’t typically have a long wait to check out. Overall it’s a much more pleasant shopping experience. They recently changed their Target Circle app so the discounts are automatically applied. I like that. lisae I’d say about half of the Target stores I go to periodically (there are about 8 within a 20 minute radius of my house) have the grocery section right close to the front doors of the store, the other half have it concentrated along one side of the store running all the way from front to back. Since I’m almost never just going there for one thing, I don’t find it annoying to pick up milk or whatever because I’m already there for something else. I do the majority of my grocery shopping at Costco. I try to get whatever else I need at Target if they have it, and only go to an actual grocery store if I absolutely have to. I feel like I’m wasting time and effort if I have to go to a store for only one category of items (clothing, food, cleaning supplies, gifts, housewares, decor, etc.) and at this stage of my life, time is my most precious commodity.

I don’t shop at either very often
There’s a Walmart closer to me than any other store except Dolkar General and I only go if there’s something I absolutely need that I can’t get somewhere else locally. It’s right off the interstate and generally packed
The nearest Target is about an hour - we might go twice a year usually back to school shopping and Christmas

I used to love Target, but the nearest store is 2 hours away and their prices are higher so I've become a Walmart shopper. We probably buy 75% of our groceries and personal care items at Walmart. Our stores are very clean with friendly employees.

I really don't shop much at either, honestly. My father in law ALWAYS gives us Walmart gift cards for our birthdays, and I use them for things like mouthwash (which I usually buy at Costco) or other household things. Their website just seems like it's trash for actually finding things sold by Walmart, tbh. It annoys me. And the Walmart near us is just super sketchy.
If I'm going to Target, it's because I have something I have to buy there - ex., last year or the year before, we needed a new slow cooker. Placed a pick up order for after work. Went to get it... got it home to wash so DH could use it the next day for a work event... And it had a baseball sized gash in it. Went to a different location to exchange it. Explained the situation to both the returns clerk and cashier (both of whom were very understanding). I asked the cashier if I could use the register next to her (it wasn't staffed) to open the box to check it. She was pleasantly surprised I asked because she said most people would've just done that in the aisle, pre-purchase.
That said, all of our groceries now come from Aldi (if we have to, we'll go to Giant, but even that's becoming more and more infrequent). Even though it's just the two of us and our cat, we also do a lot at Costco. Not having to buy TP, mouthwash, coffee, cat litter, etc. at the "regular" grocery store has saved us SO much.

I had an incident in Walmart that did it for me I went to the bathroom, and the roll of TP was on the rail, not the holder. I picked it up to use, and the side against the wall was covered in diarrhea! . Never again, and told them so in an email. And my cashier had a shitty attitude, and did not know what a coupon was. No, it was not self check out.

Target. Walmart is technically closer, but they’re so customer hostile now, it takes longer to shop there. Went in there recently for cold meds and it took 15 minutes for someone to open the cabinet. Then they have to be walk you to the checkout, and the self-checkout employee had to approve the sale, and that person wasn’t paying attention to me needing help either. By the time I got back to the car… we should have gone to Walgreens or Kroger.
I usually only go in Walmart for cleaning supplies, seasonal decor and if I need one item, immediately. They only have checkouts open on the Health / Home side, so if you want groceries you end up walking so far to checkout.

I could walk to Target if I wanted to and am probably in there once a month if not more. I know where everything is and can be in and out in 20 minutes.
I stopped shopping at Walmart because I hated the experience: the TV's blaring, the layout, the lines, the other customer's and their carts blocking the aisle... I can't do it.
We also have Fred Meyer (Kroger) which is farther than both Target and Walmart but has a full grocery store, clothes, and household stuff. I probably split 60/40 between Target and Fred Meyer.

If HEB doesn't have it, then wherever I can get it. Walmart has the better Veggie Straws, and the pickles that are DD's tennis team favorite. Target has the Nutella Uncrustables. It's a tossup.

I avoid Walmart like the plague but I do get a lot of my non-food items from Sam's if possible.I like Target but don't shop there as much as I used to but what I can't get at Sam's I get at Target.

However, if a customer had an unfortunate event in there I'm sure other customers would see it before it got cleaned up.

Target, and mostly pickup orders. It's so easy especially if I just needs milk/eggs and a few other things. I have a short list of maybe a dozen items that are cheapest and Walmart and I stock up on those a few times a year. We have a smaller Walmart close that is easier to navigate. I find the big Walmart rather soul draining.
That said, I have come to prefer Sam's over Costco. Their selection just works better for our family and it's almost never a madhouse like Costco.

I never liked Walmart but there is a Walmart grocery store about 3 blocks from us. We used it for groceries for years. I have been in the "big" Walmart twice in the last 20 years.
An Aldi is 1/2 mile from US in the opposite direction. We go to Aldi for basic items and were getting other things from the Walmart or Target. Target is 2-3 miles away.
After I learned that Walmart gave huge sums to the Trump campaign, we have stopped shopping there. Aldi for us and Target for what Aldi can't provide.

We shop at WM bc we also want to buy some household goods, such as TP, shampoo, conditioner, etc, and those are WAY more expensive at grocery-only stores, such as Giant, Aldi, etc I'm not sure if you were trying to incentivize me shopping at Walmart, but his store is a super store, like Walmart. They sell clothing and shoes and sporting goods and books and electronics and toys. It is not grocery only and the prices are not higher. Not at all! Just trying to explain that I am trying to limit my amount of stops, and so we typically shop at WM so we can get our household stuff as well as groceries... I wish we had a Meijer! That seems to be a midwest chain tho, and not here on the east coast.

Going to either store I consider a chore that I dread. I prefer the ambiance of Target, however, they are severely lacking in selection. The city that we normally shop in has a newer Walmart that is not terribly busy and the clientele are not people you would see on the People of Walmart page. LOL If I am forced to go to either Target or Walmart I normally choose that Walmart. Unless I am going for my holiday birds and the Wondershop bird collection at Target is far superior than the Walmart birds in terms of cuteness.

I don’t grocery shop at either and prefer Target for anything like cleaning products, toiletries, housewares, etc. It is also easier to pop in to Target for me than it is Walmart. I have never liked the layout of WalMart everything is such a trek.

We have no shortage of either one in my area. I tend to go to Walmart more because their grocery area is larger. I don’t get meat or produce from either one, but I get things like bread, canned goods and drinks from Walmart. And since I am there I will also pick up household goods. I buy meat and produce (and a certain brand of ice cream) from a local store.
Target is a nicer shopping experience, and they don’t lock things up at my local Target, so I’ll buy more beauty/body stuff at Target since I don’t have to check out in a special area or look for a store employee. But I hate that the self-checkout is usually closed at Target.
Someone mentioned only one entrance at the stores as a factor of where they shop. All the Walmarts and Targets here only have one entrance. At Walmart the entrances are in the food section, and at Target the entrances is usually the opposite side from the food section.

I used to shop at Walmart all the time. Now theWalmarts that I’ve been to are cramped, it isn’t as clean as I’d like, no customer service and the number of options for items has gone down. Now I’m strictly a Target shopper

There is only one entrance at Target and it is on one end of the large store - the opposite end to groceries. Someone mentioned only one entrance at the stores as a factor of where they shop. All the Walmarts and Targets here only have one entrance. At Walmart the entrances are in the food section, and at Target the entrances is usually the opposite side from the food section. I was going to say this, but will just ditto you instead. Although I think of the Walmart entrance as being at the divide between the sections (groceries to the right, other stuff to the left). All the Targets and Walmarts I can think of are basically within a couple of blocks of each other and I'll always pick Target. That being said, I rarely go into a Target these days either. I've never used either for grocery shopping and have just shopped less and less at Target once the kids aged out of toys. FWIW, both my YAs have asked for Target gift cards the last couple years. I did end up in a Walmart last summer looking for a carry-on bag with a visiting cousin. TJ Maxx was our first stop and we had major sticker shock at the prices. We went on to Kohl's, which were even higher, and then the Walmart across the street saved the day with one option less than half the price of the first.

When I go to WM, I usually can find everything (and the brands), I want
That’s not always the case at Target (ex: don’t have the cat food brand my cat will eat, may not carry a shampoo brand I want)
Plus I find WM cheaper

If I have to do that type of shopping I do drive up and go at Target. WalMart is for extreme occasions when I can't get the item I need anywhere else. Otherwise, I would never shop at WM. I prefer Amazon for most things.

Walmart delivery, groceries assorted other items included, free delivery with membership.
All other items not in stock or online, free shipping no minimum.
Most grocery stores charge more per item for grocery delivery plus other fees.
ETA: Closest WM small food section, but many things there for delivery of ice cream, cold stuff. WM Super Store is nice but farther away, difficult for ice cream etc melting. Big orders from there basics etc

For grocery shopping, I'm now splitting between Safeway and Walmart. I do buy some groceries at Target.
Walmart is closest, and it's a neighborhood market.
At Safeway, I only buy the sale stuff: boneless skinless chicken breasts were 97 cents a pound last week. And they have other sale prices as well. Last week when I was there, my total bill was $62 and change, and I saved $61 and change, nearly 50% savings. Plus they load bonus deals on your app too. Plus $$$ off or free groceries, based on what you spend. I didn't shop there for years, but now I am again. (Safeway is also Albertson's)
Target has good prices on many products, including some groceries. I almost always just get customer pick-up (not drive up). For some reason, I like going into the store. (The last time I went, they got my order wrong, so I was extra glad I went in.) I am there like three times a week. Also, I buy stuff and have it shipped to my godchildren or have their parents pick it up at their location. (I used to have Target mail things to my house and then ship them from my house. But then I learned that I could just ship direct to them, which was a total game changer for me.)
I also shop some at Sam's as well, only because it's closer than Costco.

I am a primarily a Walmart shopper. The prices are less and there's a bigger selection of merchandise. I do not buy meat at Walmart. I prefer to buy that at the grocery store, that has a butcher counter.
There are a few things I buy at Target, because I like the merchandise better. Tank tops, pajama pants, Magnolia Hearth and Home stoneware dishes.

The last 3 times I have been to a Walmart have resulted in my having to either talk to police as a witness for an assault or it triggered my mandatory reporter lever and had to file a report. So...for me, three strikes and I am not going into a Walmart in my town again. And, I would probably do quite a bit to avoid it in any other town.
That said, I do shop at Target every once and a while but I am not hardcore either. If I do, I have something specific I am looking for.

I buy groceries at the commissary. I supplement with Costco, Walmart and Hy-Vee if I can't get it on base. I go to Target to browse or get household items. Walmart is cheaper for groceries, Target has better quality household. Hy-Vee is more expensive than both big box options, but it's local to my region and within walking distance.
I'll buy from just about anywhere, if I need a quick stop for last minute groceries, except Aldi. I hate their setup and lack of variety for single items.

I live within a couple miles of both. I used to shop at Walmart for my laundry/household supplies but Target carries Persil now, so I usually buy it there. I don't step foot in either store though, so I use Target's curbside because they don't require a set time. While Walmart requires you to pick a time, they are very flexible. I think they hold purchases for 2 or 3 days until you are ready to pick up. Yes, I've found it very flexible. I learned from Kroger's pick up times that they (Kroger) will hold your order for you until the end of that day. Because of that I never stressed about picking it up after my chosen "pickup time". I do the same with WM too. They have two hour pick up windows and if it's available I'll choose the 2-4 time. I leave work at 4:00 and can go pick it up then. If I chose the next time slot (4-6), I might have to go home and then go back to WM to pick up. I'm not doing that.

We live close to a Walmart. We used to do a lot of shopping there but they built an Aldi across the street so I shop there when possible. Walmart is not my favorite place especially after their latest remodel. The isles are very high and narrow and if you shop after 10 they play annoying music - rap or country sorry not a fan. I like Target but the one closest to us is small and rarely has what I need. I do order items online quite often for shipping. I had one package delivered this morning and another is out for delivery most of my Christmas shopping will be done after it arrives. I wish stores wouldn’t play loud music my local Target store doesn’t but was in another location and it was loud. I was going to do a lap and explore as it’s a nice large store but the music was too loud and I just couldn’t tune it out. Overall I like Target and I will compare prices and they have been cheaper lately in many items. Overall I have cut back the amount of money that goes to Walmart over the last year as I just don’t like shopping there. Target has gotten a bit more. I also check Prime and am amazed when they are cheaper than the two. Much better to not have to drive to the store. I would say overall though that I am shopping at Amazon a bit less. Most of our groceries and vitamins come from Costco or Sam’s or Aldi.

Walmart because location, location, location and until very recently only grocery store in town. Now there's an Aldi and less Walmart.👍🏻 And most often curbside pickup so don't have to go inside.
