I'm so happy to see that I'm not the only walker in the group! I'm old and 50 lbs over weight with bad knees, so walking is my only option. I use a fit bit and try to walk 10,000 steps a day. It doesn't always happen, but I try my best. This was a good week, since I averaged 4.25 mileS per day. Plus I am down 8 lbs this month. Only 42 lbs more to go. LOL Wow - great job! All those steps really add up & your hard work is really paying off!

I am a walker. I have just started back after about a year and a half. I was up to 3.5 miles/5 days a week. I have a synovial cyst on my spine and I have been doing PT for a while to even get around the house. Last month, I started back walking and I am glad to say that I am up to a 1.5 miles. Nothing close to what you ladies are doing, but I am estatic! Sounds like you're off to a great start again!

I did the treadmill and let's just say my legs gave out on me. I went and did another 20 min or more on the bike. Maybe total of 5 miles. Nothing exciting. I went and that is good. Just didn't succeed much. Tomorrow is another workout day, right? Some days I am so string I can walk hours and speeds are great and the incline is awesome. Today no. Some days are definitely like that, but getting out there is the most important part!

I tried to run/walk or walk/run since there is more walking than running on Sunday. Did 3 miles walking. I just need to say that my butt hurts after Saturday's run/walk Kemble, 3 miles is awesome! ! Take a look at JeffGalloway's site. He has great for advice on the run-walk-run method. Don't ever feel like you need to run continuously, because YOU DON'T! And you don't want to try to run every day yet. Every other day is fine. If you push too hard too fast, you will get injured and stop running. Start with a safe plan and follow it! Totally agree with elaine! I do run/walk intervals and love it. I also only run 3 days a week. I've been able to keep my legs happy that way.

I had been running a good solid 10-20 miles a week. After a series of bad running injuries that put me on the sidelines I changed my training to the Galloway method. I can now run reliably and haven't had a running injury in almost a year. Now, I did break my foot and am recovering from that, lol, but I broke it by accidentally kicking something with my bare foot. I rarely run outside this time of year due to the humidity but right now our humidity is low even though it's hot. My favorite runs are those on the water. I've got a great 10 mile run right along the Chesapeake Bay. It's flat, little traffic and has amazing views. I'm so lucky!

Elaine speaks truth! The theory behind the Galloway method is to stay injury free and it works! It really really works. You get to pick your own walk run ratio and there are some kick- ss apps and programs. The Solo apps for training are really great. You can use *your* music and boy does that make a huge difference. Music is a great motivator.

Another great quote I use a lot, "it doesn't matter how slow I go, I'm still lapping everyone on the couch." Start slow, do a 3 minute - 5 minute walking warm up, nice steady pace. Run for 30 seconds, walk for 30 seconds. Don't go out to fast. You should be able to carry on a conversation, not easily but still talk. As you get more comfortable running and build the endurance, you can change your ratio. For the Princess races I did a 1/1 ratio. 1 minute walking/1 minute running. For my 5K's I try to do a 1 walk/2 run. But if it's hot and muggy, I drop back to a 1/1. I also use the Jeff Galloway apps because you can use your own music but he also talks to you. He has a very soothing voice but is upbeat and gives helpful tips.

i'm doing a 10k training program and am on week 5. I am really enjoying it! Hope to do a 10k this fall.
I'm also in NC and the humidity is awful. I'm originally from TX so i can handle heat, but the humidity is just stifling!

I kept injuring myself until I switched to run/walk intervals. I'd never go back to trying to run straight again! Your 10 mile run sounds delightful!

So DH gave me the go ahead to do the Princess 1/2 again. So excited!! I'm still torn with the cost of it all, but I really really want to do it.
I will be using the Galloway plan again, (need to see if training has started yet) I hope to get a little faster than 14:30 mm. This was my pace last year but had a hard miles 8-10 so I finished in 3:26. I'd like to finish in 3 hours this time.

Great thread! I'm an off and on runner. I just started back again with C25K with the plan to PR my next 5K in September. I'm the slowest runner ever, but I still love it (16 minute mile for anyone who wants to compare) .

Anna (Anna banana) and I are running the Disneyland Half in August and the Epcot Wine and Dine in November and were astounded by how quickly they sold out. You really don't have time to waffle! I also agree that there is more than enough time to train for February's Half. I went from a total non-runner to my first half in 7 months. The Princess Half is 7 months out, so if Octoberbeauty runs at all, she is far ahead of where I was! And I'm an old lady - 51.

I know. I've already got my Active.com profile filled out and ready to go. I'm 98% sure that I'm going to go for it, but leave room for chickening out at the last minute. LOL
I did get up and head to the track early this morning. Walked a little over a mile. My calves were really tight this morning. It's time to start pushing myself to two miles though. 13 feels soooo far away!

I was dragging myself out of bed this morning when my alarm went off at 6am, but I ended up having a solid 8 mile run. (Runkeeper - the app I use to track runs - said it was my third fastest 6-10 mile run, so I'll gladly take it.) My mantra through the tought parts was "your body follows your mind" and that was very true! Now it's time to stretch & hydrate, hydrate, hydrate so I can fully enjoy a glass or two of wine at my birthday party tonight. Oh - I'm going to start a new thread for the week Monday morning. Hope y'all enjoy your weekend miles!
