This occurred to me after a comment in the Photoplay thread.
What themes are neglected in scrapbooking lately?
49 & Market just put out a wedding line, and it occurred to me that I haven't seen much wedding stuff in awhile. Twenty years ago there were tons of wedding lines available. That was back in the day when people scrapped mainly baby albums, wedding albums, etc. I don't need a wedding line, but I assume a lot of people are still scrapping wedding stuff. I know most of us here are a bit old for weddings, but we still have kids getting married. Of course, flower papers are everywhere, so people don't really need a specifically themed wedding line, I guess.
Baby lines are still popular. The release of Pooh images seems to have really opened up the market for that one.

Echo Park still releases a wedding line every year. I scrap a lot of weddings and I have no problem finding supplies. There is a plethora of baby supplies, but one thing I found missing was pregnancy supplies. I made a mini-album documenting my pregnancy and I found that typical baby supplies didn't work that well. I also didn't know the gender of my baby while I was pregnant, so that added to the challenge. This one is specific but I am getting close to scrapping my daughters baptism, and I haven't found anything themey that I like for that. I'll try to think of other neglected themes. Thanks for the coffee chat artbabe I am still waking up... my poor girl is sick so I didn't get much sleep.

At one point in time, I could have used a divorce line --- could have used phrases like 'starting over again', etc. I could have also used a generic political theme - something with elephants, donkeys, election results, etc. When you do find political stuff, it usually s geared towards one party over the other and specific to things like aboriton rights. I could use political stuff for local and state contests.

School lines that are not primary colors/elementary school. I now work in a school so I've noticed the lack of stuff to make anything about my non-teacher job. Luckily there are plenty of cooking lines (although a lot of them are about baking and dessert focused) which I can sort of use.
DD (18) just had her senior art show yesterday, I have no idea how I'm going to scrap that one...
Learning to drive
Exercise that is not yoga...
Indoor pools/water parks (I recently made a page about one and everything available is sun/outdoors focused.)
Just off the top of my head.

Certain sports, like water polo/swim team and or volleyball. There really isn't much if anything out there about these. Musicals/plays/theater productions - there's very little about these (or maybe there's very little that I like). I would love a wedding line that isn't black/grey/silver or pastel colors. I still haven't scrapped my wedding because it was fall colors (reds/oranges/yellows) and all the wedding stuff out there doesn't even come close to matching.

I would like a relevant teen line. No cassette tapes or the word “rad”! Gaming, hanging out with friends, going out to eat, Nike shoes, iPhone/smart phone, shooting hoops, etc.

I'm not/never have been a theme scrapper & don't view collections through that lens. As always, I wish for versatile, non-themed, white-based, clean, & modern collections in neutral color palettes to which other colors, distressing, etc. can be added as desired to document anything/everything, including subjects without themed products (e.g. travel to major cities, museums/monuments tours, attending pro/college sporting events as a spectator, college/young adult activities/first apartment, etc). ETA: Certain sports, like water polo/swim team and or volleyball. ... Check out the Simple Stories - Swim mini collection, including Page Pieces, plus the Volleyball SS Page Pieces.

backpacking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, canyoneering, canoeing...
local events/activities - street festivals, eating out, parks and trails, art shows
cooking/eating (not just baking)
train travel
scenic travel/scenery - not specific to a place so much as words/phrases and general icons such as cameras, signs, arrows
museums/historic buildings/historic sites

I mentioned this on another thread.
*Note* I prefer tangible scrapbook products. I don't want to print out digital products (which I appreciate the suggestion and idea, but I have no desire to do that).
In this current chapter and season of my life, I could use >> stay at home, pajama day, reading all day, scrapbooking all day, puttering around my home, re-organizing and-or re-arranging my home, bulk cooking-freezer meals, self help-healing-doing *my version* of personal wellness-taking care of me, surfing the internet (message board, social media, pinterest), nap time, sleeping in, aging, etc...

Just off the top of my head. I didn't realize it until I saw your post, but you're right. All water stuff is based on bright, sunny days often with palm trees. I am a grandmother now, and some of the kid stuff just doesn't seem geared toward being a grandparent of a child older than a baby.

I'd like to see a dining/food collection that isn't country or farmhouse style. So many collections stick so close to one theme like the EP Coffee collection. It would have been nice if some of the embellishments weren't all so...coffee. I love coffee but the collection could be used for more things than just coffee. So maybe a food/dining collection that could include brunch, brewery, drinks & apps, date night, girls night, dinner party, take out, lunch date, celebratory dinner, favorite meal, favorite restaurant. I could see stickers and die cuts of silverware, plates, wine glasses, sandwiches, drink flights, charcuterie boards, desserts, menus, cooking utensils, pots and pans.
I bought an EP wedding collection and hated it as soon as it was delivered. All of the embellishments seemed so cheap looking and basic. I bought a couple of Pinkfresh collections that had the same colors as the wedding flowers and was much happier with that. Very fresh and pretty. I'm sure it's hard for manufacturers to choose one color palette for a wedding collection because there are so many wedding color palette options, though.

Both of my kids' weddings were scrapped in non wedding paper. Not a fan of much of it. I used 49 and Market lines.
More beach without tropical. More pets with non traditional colors. More papers about funny, silly things. Have no idea what that would look like though. More stamps with sarcasm. Yes, we need more sarcasm.
ETA: more papers that have construction without the little boy look. More floor plans, fewer excavators.
But what I'd really love to see is young kid paper that can still be boy or girl centered, but with one side maybe more easily used with boys and the other more traditionally girls, but let the scrapper decide which side to use with their child. I know young boys that love to garden and girls that love space. Keep the gender out of the words or have both genders represented on either side.

Track & Field that covers all the field events.
RV that isn’t the vintage looking RVs.

Sports and school collections that are for the average kids -- not all "grand slam", "A+", "All-Star", "Best in Class", etc.
Travel that includes hotels, going home. Road trips that are not RVs or VW vans.
Water that isn't all ocean/beach/palm tree/sailboats. I want SUPs and kayaks. I want lakes that don't look like they are in the mountains, or trails that aren't in a forest.
College things that are fairly generic, especially anything from a parent's point of view.

Would love a masculine line for the everyday of my 17 YO son. There’s so much for little boys or the teen lines are really are preteen with the “rad” type theme.

And I also agree that I don't see a lot of religious event themed items in general.

Along with the comment about wedding lines, I also struggled to find much for anniversaries--especially larger anniversaries. I've attended four 50th anniversary parties in recent years and I know there are a few more that will likely occur in the next few years, and I resorted to using some New Year's papers for one that was black & gold themed, but just generic papers for most of the others. Also, more elegant birthday lines. Not every birthday party is for a 6 year old. I could use more general outdoor lines---something similar to Simple Stories' new line---trees, ferns, leaves, mushrooms (maybe add in some berries, too) but also with elements like picnic baskets, backpacks, hiking boots, trekking poles, binoculars, phrases to do with rivers, creeks, lakes, nature trails, etc. And a general summer line with things kids often do outside of travel---bubble wands, chalk, ice cream, popsicles, wagons, bikes, yard games, hula-hoops, jump ropes, playground equipment, etc.

So many! My family does not fall into neat gender-normative categories so some kits miss the mark for us. I so wish that kits were more gender-neutral. My oldest is non-binary so there's that huge gap in kits alone. My youngest is a boy but starting middle school & does not do sports so all of the cutesy "play in the dirt" kits don't work. He reads and acts and writes. My husband is 10x more domestic than I am so he's the one who cooks, bakes, knits, gardens, etc. which are all seen as "female" hobbies so those type of kits usually have really gendered wordart e.g. KNITTING QUEEN.
There are not many kits for adult hobbies/fun, either, except for ones that include alcohol. I don't drink at all so Ladies Night kits that include high heels and cocktail glasses are not useful. My husband doesn't drink, either, and doesn't do sportsball so all of the male-themed kits about going to the bar, mancave, etc. don't fit. We love to go to things like museums, restaurants, plays, and bookstores. My GFs and I like to go shopping, to restaurants, to drag show brunches, to crafty places, to romance bookstores, and on road trips. I can never find kits to scrap those type of things with.

Cooking/Kitchen that isn't country, or baking, or from the 50s! I love to cook and try new things and would like papers and stickers for that. I love your die cut ideas! Charcuterie-yes! Pots and pans-yes! Also, food collections that aren't baking or doughnuts or cookies. Going out to eat! Trying new restaurants! Different cuisines! We eat out often and love to try new places. I can't find anything to use for that except generic papers etc. That's ok too, but sometimes it would be nice to have a themed paper or sticker. Just to take some of the thought out of it, if nothing else.

I did find pregnancy themed stuff - not much but some - when I was pregnant with my youngest (b.2006) because I did make a small pregnancy album but yeah I don't remember seeing much over the years. My family does not fall into neat gender-normative categories so some kits miss the mark for us. I so wish that kits were more gender-neutral. same here. My son is the cook/gardener/user of the sewing machine at his house. My daughters are both non-gender conforming.

I would love a book collection that actually includes authors names, books with the actual titles on them. For example Jane Austen, Bronte Sister's, Louisa May Alcott, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Charles Dickens, Poe,Tolkien, Potter, etc and current authors too Kristin Hannah, Kristin Harmel, JoJo Moyes, Christina Lauren, Emily Henry, Elin Hilderbrand etc. But these are personal preferences and there are probably copyright laws.

I use themes sometimes and sometimes not. It's tricky because there are so many variables; the paper needs to be the right size AND the right theme AND the right colors, and usually for me there are misses in at least one area. Years ago, Creative Imaginations had a mountain biking themed collection that I bought to use for scrapping my husband's mountain biking pics. But these days I'm mostly just putting his pics in sleeves without scrapping them, because trying to get just exactly what he wants is too big of a pain in the neck. So I think the sports niches are tough unless the manufacturer uses a designer who really understands the sport. My husband has rolled his eyes and laughed at some of the cycling-themed papers I've showed him. It's the same with martial arts -- another niche that scrapbooking manufacturers are mostly ignoring. MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu are really trendy right now, but I guess this is still too small of a niche to be appealing for making themed scrapbooking supplies. And this is another case where it would be really a challenge for manufacturers to get the nuances right.

This is the problem in a nutshell. The bulk of the mainstream scrapbooking supplies are stuck 20-50 years in the past - archaic telephones, cameras, highly gendered activities/phrases, etc. They don't reflect the kinds of lives people are living right now.
