I went to the thrift store today to look for a monopoly game since the one at school is missing it's money. I didn't think it was necessary to buy a brand new game just for the that. In any event, I got a monopoly game plus a few other games for summer camp for 99 cents each. Normally games are 2.99 but they have a ton so they are on flash sale. I also got a big bin of brand new fusion beads for 4.00, a wooden lazy Susan for 3.00 that I intend to use for art in Pre-K and lots of good school books. But the prize today was a Game of Life Disney Theme Park Edition for 99 cents. It is in perfect condition and all pieces present and accounted for. The game retailed for over 60. and on eBay the cheapest I could find it was 50. Total score.
We used to have thrift store find threads periodically, anyone else like to thrift shop? Garage sale? Anything good lately?

The area where I live has three days of garage sales mid June. My sister who is goofy about garage sales bought a full size Yamaha electric piano for $40. They retail for about $700, so she was excited. She also got a Koehler pedestal sink with fixtures for $40. She got well over $1000 worth of items for $80. She had to go back for those items with her own vehicle because I did not have room in my car. I got two Pampered Chef Stoneware pans for $5 each - a bread pan and a square baking dish. They did not appear to have been used and if they were it was very little. I’ve been baking with them and am very glad that I got them. I picked up some books, Tupperware, and vintage wooden puzzles for toddlers. I got a fun Boden winter jacket for $5. That was about it.

My neighborhood used to have a community garage sale once a year. People got rid of good stuff!
My parents and their friends used to come up for the sale day and I would usually have a table to sell.

I visit mine often this time of the year looking for flower vases. Most of the ones I buy are $1 or maybe $2 that originated with a florist. I use them to make flower arrangements from my garden for friends and family. It's recycling! Once in awhile I find one that I love and keep for myself.
We've gone to a few estate sales this year. My best finds were some embroidered napkins and a stand for my paintbrushes. I'm not even sure if that is what the item was originally intended for but it is perfect for my watercolor brushes and is even white, the color of my work surface. It was $2, I think.

this week i found a like-new Cricut Explore air 2 for $16.00. not a scratch, scuff or dent on it. i already have a Brother SNC and Cricut Joy Xtra so i wasn't in the market for yet ANOTHER cutting machine. curiosity got the best of me and i bought it. eeek! thank god it came with the power cord but that was it. well, it started right up and paired quickly with my devices. score! now i need mats and to sell my Brother machine.
yesterday and today, i went to a sewing machine shop that is closing down. they were in business for 45 years and had lots of Bernina feet and accessories for my 4 machines. needless to say i went there 3 times in the last 2 days and bought a ton of stuff i have been eyeing on ebay for 4-5x more than what i paid at the shop. talk about a kid in a candy store.

Oh yes! We were out of town for MIL's Celebration of Life back in Iowa. I hit up a couple of Goodwills. I was pretty stoked to get a shadow box with someone's camel collection in it. I bought it to re-purpose the shadow box, but I'll definitely use the various camels in things. Plus I have a collection of tiny china (glazed) animals for the china ones. I also got a Hawkeyes Tervis tumbler, a 1975 Jim Beam collectible whiskey "bottle" (also ceramic, with a camel); a porcelain Santa to make over into the Krampus, two large jean jackets to paint on (it's hard to find plus sized jean jackets for cheap, seems only small ones get donated), a carnival glass dish to turn into a candle, and I think that's it. I want to turn the Jim Beam into a lamp, not sure if that will ever happen. Here's one on eBay: ebay.us/m/cPNGB7

A fancy neighborhood here has a huge garage sale every June, this year it was pouring on Saturday. I mean POURING. We braved it, but it was slim pickings. We got some nice cast iron in beautiful condition. An 8 inch skillet I have been looking for and a small dutch oven I can use for soup. We only had one huge dutch over before, I am glad to have a manageable one for soup. They were 15 for both. I did go back on Sunday even though most people are only Saturday. I got a mint condition Country Bear Jamboree LP, the kind with the book. It is amazing. It is from WDW 1972. I can listen to Blood on the Saddle whenever I want! Got lots of free stuff for school then too.

I did get a single fox Calico Critter figure I will dye and turn into a vampire bat. He will preside over my haunted doll house. That bottle would make a great lamp.

Oh, I also got a toy Mystery Machine so my Calico Critters can solve some mysteries. My 17 year nephew tried to steal my Mystery Machine, it is super cute.

It's as much a gift to me as it is to them.

I do projects for a company periodically and I don’t always have the right things to work with sometimes I’ll hit up some thrift stores when I need some stuff to upcycle. I like deep discount stores more though. We had one that sold closeout and discontinued inventory from stores like Target and Home Depot. We got a bunch of stuff for our cabin from there at crazy low prices, including a really nice patio table and 6 chairs with cushions for under $200, a new gas stove for $400, a comforter for DD’s bed for less than $20 and tons of other things. I was so sad when that store closed during Covid.
Now we like to hit up this store that sells Amazon returns and another one that is an offshoot of an online auction place that sells a lot of closeout stuff from Costco, Target, etc. I love finding good deals on stuff I want at those places. I also really like Woot.com.

Not a thrift store but this morning on my local FB Buy Nothing Group, a woman posted this. I commented that I would love to have it for my craft room and she immediately replied, come and get it! Most people let things simmer for a while but she wanted it out of the way as they just moved in. Less than a mile from us. It's about 4 feet tall and I can't wait to decide what goes in the baskets!

The thrift stores near me are few, small, and not great, BUT it is garage sale season, and by and large I do love those. I haven't found anything noteworthy yet this year, but I'll be going out tomorrow morning, so maybe I'll have something to report later.

I went to Goodwill by my house, I was looking for some platters for a dessert table for my daughters wedding. Instead I spied a Wagner Magnalite 8 quart roaster. For 9 dollars I bought it, put in some elbow grease and polished it up. I placed it on Marketplace and sold it for 80. I have my mom's old fry pans and went down a rabbit hole when I wanted to get another. To me, it was the grilled cheese pan, but there is a market and I found it a good home, I think. I am not a flipper of buying things and reselling, I have enough of my stuff and my kids stuff to sell, but I couldn't pass this up.

We made 2 trips to an estate sale today. For $30 we got: Perfect round antique wood occasional table Gas leaf blower Table saw plus saw table Outdoor end table Pliers DVD player Mini fridge 3 big light up Xmas decorations
And Thurs we drove to Chicago in the heat and traffic for 2 beautiful blue and green armchairs from FB marketplace. That was a trying trip, but worth it!

Today's sales weren't stellar, but DH did find a Lenox holiday teapot that he liked. He rarely buys decorative or holiday items on his own, so I figure him finding something he liked enough to actually buy was a pretty neat thing.

I'm trying not to go until I declutter more. I miss the hunt and the happenstance of what's out there. Thanks for sharing your finds! Thanks Skellinton for this thread!

Yes, I always bring home garage sale items with the thought in mind of what previous finds I'm ready to get rid of, now. I love our FB Buy Nothing group for this. It makes it so easy to keep moving things out of the house as I find new treasures to enjoy for awhile.

My brother was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma with severe damage to his spine. He was in the middle of renovating his old farmhouse so all of us siblings stepped up to help speed up the process so that he has a comfortable home to recover after his spinal surgery and during cancer treatments. My sister and I have gotten SO MUCH STUFF from FB Marketplace! And I've also hit up some resale stores, antique malls and Goodwills. He's got some really cool artwork with some mallard ducks and another of a hunting dog so we've gotten a bunch of hunting inspired decor. I got a ton of stuff to put on top of his cabinets where we are doing a vintage farmhouse kitchen theme. It's been fun!
I've also decided to start flipping furniture. I decided to start slow with smaller pieces. Found a free simple sideboard on FB marketplace and when my daughter and I went to pick it up we drove by an antique dresser sitting at the curb with an ornate mirror. I've gotten a few more smaller pieces all for $10 or less or free that will be good practice. And then I found a dresser and 2 nightstands free on FB Marketplace! I spent $20 for an antique waterfall cabinet and then found a waterfall wardrobe and vanity (each $50) that I will group together. I'm very excited about working on all of these.

I just got back from another incredibly productive trip at the Thrift Store. The teacher that's in charge of The after school has a market on Fridays where the kids can spend money they earned during the week and needed me to stock up on some more prizes. I got a ton of squishmallows of various sizes for $0.99 each.
I got a slew of brand new looking books for Pre-K that were 49 cents each. Books that I won't mind reading over and over to the kids. The Gruffalo, Last stop on market Street, some Lane Smith and Mo Willems books. I also got a beautiful wooden butterfly shaped bowl for using during springtime activities. We can put gems and things in it for them to sort and count with. It's one of those 70 looking thick wood bowls, it is lovely. It was 99 cents.
Another big coup was what I knew to be "Run yourself ragged" when I was little. It's an obstacle course game with a metal ball. This one says it's Snafu but it's exactly what I played in the '80s.
Best of all was an old cookbook pamphlet for a Soda Fountain and a Calico Critters House for 1.99. The house is one of the big Red roof ones that sell on marketplace for $20 to $40. Since it was so cheap I'm going to turn this one into my haunted house for my Calico Critter dolls. I've been watching YouTube videos on how you can dye the Calico Critter dolls and turn them into bats.
Anyone else find anything good lately?

Not me, but my eldest who loves all animals, found a vintage metal cigar holder. Now, they have zero interest in cigars, but the holder is a lion standing with it's mouth open and they liked it as a figure very much.
They also found a Halloween Town sweatshirt from Disney that made their day.

Thrifting is one of my favourite hobbies.
I’m currently cleaning out my vintage clothing collection, which is all thrifted. I just got a couple of great vintage ‘60s dresses in the last week.
I’m renovating my camper, and have been collecting vintage orange, yellow, and green to outfit and decorate it with. The Thrifting Gods *really* want me to finish that reno!

I probably wore some of those 60's dresses back in my day. Granny Sax anyone?
