When I make cards,I always layer the card front on another piece of cad stock before attaching I on the card base... Unless the base itself is dark... My friend will stamp and create directly on the card base with no Layers..... I just can't do this... While I like her cards , if I try to do this, it feels unfinished..... Even simple cards Scream for a layer in my projects
What about you.... Can you and do you make cards with no layers?

I do try sometimes, but i feel the same way you do! It always feels like it's "missing something".

For some reason I like at least one layer too. Others look good without a layer, but mine just feel unfinished to me.

I to layer. I don't add a lot of embellishments as I don't care for the chunky cards but I do add a layer or two. By a layer I mean I may fussy cut images to add to the card.

I always do at least one layer as I think it just looks flat an uninteresting without it. I've seen lots of CAS cards that I've admired but any time I've tried it, it just doesn't look quite right.

I can't seem to work directly on the card base. Layers are on mine.

I normally have a couple of layers on my cards too but the other day I made a one layer card. I was happy with the way it turned out. Here's a link for you to see.

Well, I don't make the whole card front and then stick it on a base. But I do layer onto a card base.

I like your card, scraphappyinjax... I think it really depends on the design of the card, and yours looks really nice right on the card base. I don't make my cards like that, though-- mine feel unfinished without layers, and just as important, I personally need to stamp onto a separate piece of paper so that if I screw up the stamping I haven't ruined the entire card! (not that that's happened, or anything-- lol!)

Lately I've been having my 4 year old "assistant" help with the cards we've been sending out, so for me it's just easier to cut a bunch of fronts out of white cardstock, stamp something on there for her to color, and then mat it onto a colored layer or the front of a colored card base. Even that seems a little plain, but we usually have to crank out 10-20 cards at a time and her attention span isn't that long. Back in the day though, I used to like to stamp right onto the front of the card base quite a bit. I liked using cream or kraft colored cardstock which would make my colored pencils seem to pop a lot more than just coloring on plain white. If I was using plain white, I'd layer.

In the past I very rarely stamped on my card base, but in the midst of purging, I found some old DT/challenge created cards and immediately pitched them. I just don't like the layered and embellished to death look anymore. So now, I'm keeping it cleaner and flatter, so I'll be stamping on the base much more. To each their own.

I do both. It seems like it takes more work to make a one-layer card that doesn't look plain.

I do stamp directly on the base sometimes. It looks fresh after I'm exhausted from multi-layered, heavily-embellished cardmaking.
I do like that the flat cards are easy to mail!

I like multiple layers too! I typically buy card bases from M's in white or kraft so I like layering up by using other colors of cardstock or patterned papers.

I cut my 8.5 x 11 paper in half to make my card bases, however, I keep seeing people talking about taking paper to kinkos to get it cut or buying pre-made card bases. Is there a benefit to buying them pre-cut/pre-made? It isn't that hard to cut a piece of paper to me but maybe I'm missing out on something? LOL

I usually layer. I do however like the look of a dry embossed card with a little bit of embellishments.

I always layer, not doing it seems unfinished to me. I have seen some great cards like the one that scraphappyinjax shared and they look perfect, but when I try it they just don't look right.

But I like heavy card bases, I don't want my cards to wimp out when on display. I also make a lot of cards that are not "regular" size or are fancy folds that require more paper to start. As for stamping onto the card base, I have always been to afraid of ruining it with bad stamping so I rarely ever tried it. Now that I have a MISTI I will try it more. But like many have said I love the layered look.

I layer the front, but I tend to stamp directly on the card base on the inside of the card unless the Cardstock is dark.

I use layers. It is so much more forgiving if you mess up. I like the finished look. I don't like so many layers that you have to pay extra postage to have the cards hand canceled at the post office though. Or at least I try not to make them that big and bumpy.
