I thought I was alone is my want for a rock tumbler! Also on my list:
Canopy bed Barbie Dream House (I had oodles of Barbie's and the Corvette, a horse, a case to hold them, but they had no house. Crystal Barbie had to sleep in her corvette! My own bedroom (I had to share with my brother)

I was in fifth grade and I really wanted those tennis shoes with the little zippered pocket on the side that were so cool back then. I told my dad I wanted them. His response, "Do your other shoes fit fine?" and "Do you have friends?" "Then you don't need those shoes." Those were Kangaroos. They still make them. You could still be cool! Fulfill a childhood dream, yes. Cool? Probably not.
I had a pair of those Roos. They were used, but I didn't care!

Ok, so since we are going there...I wanted to be important to someone. I wanted someone to tell me I mattered, was important, and was loved. I had lots of stuff (minus the glasses and rock tumbler), but I never have felt like I mattered. You matter to me. Not much consolation, but I like you (despite your effing creepy avatar!).

Aww.....((( HUGS))) to you, TankTop....also to the person that said she just wanted a pik with both parents at her graduation, and to the person who said she just wanted her parents to attend her performances..... I already shared my sad stuff previously, so now I'll post more THINGS that I'd forgotten about until I read the newest posts.... JUNK FOOD----YES!!! My siblings and I wanted that, too!!! And COKES!!! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I could NEVER believe that we could have cokes, chips, cookies, ice cream, etc at friends' houses!!!!!! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) My older brother and I STILL love to say his quote from childhood: "when I grow up, I'm gonna have ALL THE COKES I want!" ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) BARBIE SWIMMING POOL made from a box---YES!!! I did that, too!!! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I lined with with plastic wrap, but of course, it still didn't work....LOL! I DID have many nice Barbie things and always LOVED Christmas morning when Santa would bring them, but I guess I decided to make the pool on my own.... BRACES!!!!!! OMG,forgot that biggie!!! Pretty much EVERYONE we knew had braces!!! (and remember the head gear?) My sister and I wanted them so badly, we'd take paperclips and bend them onto our teeth so we'd look "COOL" like everyone else....LOL!

Young parents! I wanted young parents. And a dad with a real job, not a photographer and mother who was more hip. ( I have come to realize that my mother was on the spectrum very high functioning but autistic) And clothes that came from iszard's. Not hills. Interesting...I had young parents (17 and 21) and I liked that they were young and energetic, unlike some of my friends' older parents, but we had to go without a lot of things that often go with more mature parents such as stable income, more mature married relationship, etc.

I cannot recall anything I (we) did not get that we had asked for. I am the oldest of 3 and when I was 12-13 years old I wanted an older brother or sister. Friends with older siblings were just cool, they knew all the current songs and could drive their little sisters around I did want to ride a big wheel- but I was too old (big) when they came out. The little boy next door had soo much fun riding and spinning. We also had pets - cat and dogs, but I always dreamed of getting a puppy or kitten for Christmas, you know with the big red bow or in a wrapped box. Fun post.

Mouse Trap game, albums and a canopy bed. My parents felt that Mouse Trap was not educational. They refused to buy me albums. But my parents were self-employed and I worked for them/earned $ since I was around 6 so I bought my own albums. I have a GREAT collection!! I got my DD a really cute canopy bed with all the pink fluff/bed linens, etc when she was about 5. She hated it.

I loved reading this thread. It made me remember how I too wanted a spider monkey (and a tiger or lion cub--loved Born Free). My brother had the rock tumbler and the noise was ghastly. I had the canopy bedroom which I loved, but I do remember when the big earthquake hit, seeing the canopy moving was a little eerie.
One thing I wanted was a fake white fur muff but since I lived in warm Southern California it was not deemed a necessary buy. :-)

I wanted a Cabbage Patch kid SO bad. Instead, I got a genuine, certified Cabbage Patch Kid HEAD! Yes, the severed head of the doll I wanted SO badly. With a note that said "The elves were running behind, if you put these in mommys sewing room we will swing by to finish them up!"
Apparently you could buy Cabbage Patch brand doll heads at the craft stores for a fraction of the price. My sister and I were traumatized. We did eventually get real dolls with the butt stamp about 3 years later.

Omg!!! So funny that the Snoopy Snowcone Machine is mentioned!!! My older brother got one, and all we did was drink all the sugary "juices" ....our Mom was furious!!! I wanted the white, French provincial bedroom furniture (with canopy bed & pretty linens!!) that some of my friends had! Also wished my alcoholic, depressed Mom hadn't been so awful when I needed a few dollars to pay for all the Girl Scout badges I'd earned. (the money was NOT the issue, it was just her being mean---my Dad paid PLENTY of alimony!) Also wanted a Mom who didn't attend the Badge Ceremony drunk, and wished the pictures she'd taken weren't all blurry! REALLY wanted to be in Marching Band & Swim Team, and have a Mom who was willing to help and carpool like all the other "normal" parents.... Junior High & High School---wanted more than two new outfits for the new school year ...(again, it wasn't about the money---she had a generous alimony from my Dad). Wanted pets ....loved playing with all my friends' pets! Finally got 2 hamsters that I adored, but Mom despised them. When we were preparing to move, she made my brother set them free outside....my heart was broken!!! (((hugs))) It broke my heart reading that. I'm sorry.

I wanted a Gunne Sax dress. I wanted a whole bunch of them. I had picked out a fancy dress for a dance in high school, but we couldn't afford it. My mom stumbled into a deal on a sweet little Gunne Sax dress somewhere and she was so excited about it. She sent me to a cousin to have it hemmed without ever actually seeing me in it, so she almost swallowed her gum when she finally did see it on me - just before I left for the dance. Let's just say that saying about 50 pounds of mud in a 5 pound sack pretty much applied to the bodice of THAT gown. LOL I was VERY popular that night! I still have the dress; I saved it for my DD. Unfortunately for her, she is even more endowed than I was. There just wasn't anyway her bosom was fitting in that bodice. Maybe my granddaughter will be flat chested. Marcy

I am old, so I was around when the first Barbie came out. I loved dolls and sewing doll clothes, and I begged for that Barbie for Christmas. My mom told me that it cost $4.95, and Santa just didn't have that much extra money for presents that year. I never did get a Barbie and often thought I should have bought one when I was older and had the money.

The only thing I asked for and didn't get was a John Nagey(sp?) learn to draw set. I usually didn't ask for things because I was the oldest and my mother confided in me about finances and such.

A horse. I even had a plan to care for and house him. Me too! I had my parents sign me up for riding lessons just so I could ride the horse (no one I knew had one). My dad would tell me every year "next summer". Well, next summer never came.

After reading this entire thread, I'm sorry to all of you who had parents that were uninvolved. Looking back at my childhood, I have no complaints. I had parents that loved to travel and were into all the new gadgets (I grew up in the 70s/80s so that would include the first VCRs and microwaves). My parents were not rich by any means, but they loved to shop at yard sales and would go just about every Saturday morning. They would come home with the car loaded up and we would be so excited to see what they got us. That is where I got the majority of my Barbies.
I remember one Christmas money was really scarce and that year I got a box of Nancy Drew books that my parents bought at a yard sale. That was the best Christmas ever and I still have those books. My brother also remembers that Christmas and it was also his favorite. He got a box of model cars, some had all the pieces, some were just parts. He loved that box.
I'm sure there were things I wanted but didn't get, but I honestly can't remember any (except the horse mentioned above). I know I didn't have all the latest fashions or toys, but I don't remember ever feeling left out because of it. I think alot of the reason was that my best friend was worse off than we were and after spending time with her, I was grateful for what I did have.
I wish everyone could have the childhood I did.
