I am 5'1" so I suspect my answer would be "not very much." (but my mom is my height, my aunts are 5'3" and 5' respectively, my grandmother about 5'2"...I didn't have much hope of being one of those tall, willowy, long legged girls that I envied so.)

I'm pretty sure I didn't stop growing until I was close to 18. I'm barely 5'4. Ditto down to the height.

IIRC, I was 11 in 6th grade and don't think I got much taller, and I think my shoe size was about set. I was a size 8 in 4th grade, topped out at a size 10 and I have to think I got there by 6th grade. I was tall really early though, so I might have been on the "done earlier" side.

I was 11 when I had my first period and stopped growing around 12. I am 5' 2. Our doctor told me that girls usually stop growing around 2 years after their first period.

I was very late, compared to most, getting my period and I still grew another 8 or so inches. I was about 4 ft 10 in when I got my period, and grew to 5 ft 6 in.

I got my period when I was 14, stopped growing at 16. All except my feet. I gained another full shoe size during my pregnancies.

I have to dig way back in the vault for that one but I think I was actually at my full growth before I got my period.

Lengthwise or widthwise? I grew not at all in height. I stopped growing in the 5th grade (at 5'5"); got my period the summer after 10th grade.

I was 11 and 5'5". I kept growing and am nearly 6' tall. Dd has done the same. At 15 she is 5'10, also was 11 when she started.

I started mine at 13 and was already 5'9". I think I grew another 1/2 inch. I already towering over everyone else and being shy I was ready to stop growing.
My 2 DDs started at 12. They each only grew another inch shortly after they started and that was it. One is 5'3" and the other 5'5". They both wanted to be tall like me, but I married a short man.

I was twelve and probably grew another 4 inches. My daughter was 15 and I doubt she grew more than another inch.

I grew about 2 inches after I started at age 11. I was the tiniest in the class and went to one of the tallest in the class before I started. DD also started the month she turned 11, which was 2 months ago. Unfortunately she did not have a growth spurt before her period. She is only 5'0 right now and is so bummed that she might not grow anymore. She has always been one of the tallest in her class since kindergarten. If she doesn't grow anymore, she'll be the shortest female in the family - and I'm pretty short myself at 5'3". Her dad is 6'3". Her 12 year old brother is 5'8". The pediatrician was telling me (in front of DD) that she'd start her period after a big growth spurt - NOT!! She has grown a steady 2.5" a year for the past 5 years, is that supposed to be a growth spurt?

I was 5'6" when I was nine and got my period. I'm still 5'6" at age 36. Stoopid period . I've continued to grow horizontally. Being a girl is annoying sometimes.

Hi everyone! If any of the writers from the original post are still around, I was wondering how much taller your daughters got? They should all be done growing by now. My daughter got her period at 10 years 11 months. She is 12.9 years old and 160 cm(5'3''). Both me and my husband are tall(5'7'' and 6' tall, respectively). If it is true that girls are Done growing 2 years after their period, she is going to end up significantly shorter than both of us. Is that really possible for a healthy girl?

I honestly don't remember for me, but both my daughters grew substantially after they got their period. More than six inches for my oldest.

Is that really possible for a healthy girl? The quality of her health only has about 20% to do with how tall she will be. 80% (and some say more) is tied to genetics (though, in some populations that can be a lower number). I do not put much belief that girls quit growing after two years because that is not what held true for me, or many people that I know. I have also read that girls tend to quit growing around 15 - and your daughter is still 2 years from that. While I seriously doubt she will 6' - I bet she gets a few more inches. www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-much-of-human-height/

I was 10.5 when I started my period. My height has stayed the same since I was 12. My DD has not started her period yet. She's 12 1/2. She is about 5 feet tall, so I'm hoping she grows to at least my height (5' 4"-the average American female).
A friend of mine saw pubic hair on her 6-year old daughter, and the doctor confirmed that the girl was going through puberty early. If they let it continue, then yes, her daughter would stop growing very young. They gave her something to stop the puberty (don't know what) and recommended that she eat organic/no hormone food. The girl is 12 now, 5" and just started her period.

Wow you people are observant!! My girls are 16 & 14 and if you asked me when they got their periods I'd say it's been quite a few years, 11 or 12ish? I have no idea how tall they were then and and how much they have grown or when it stopped since getting their period. I also have even less of a clud about myself, I just know I wasn't that young.

I think I grew an inch. I was 5'8" in sixth grade though, so that extra inch was a perfect place to stop.

DD was 14 in my previous post - she's 17 now and still 5' 3.75" -she's probably going to be the smallest in our immediate family. I'm 5'8" and DH is 5'7" but DS is an outlier at 6'3" (he was predicted to be 5'10" based on his height when young and our heights. DD was predicted to be about 5'4" and she's pretty close. YDD hasn't started her period yet although I expect it within the year. She'll be 11 in a month and isn't yet 5' - she's predicted to be about 5'6" in the end - she's overdue for a growth spurt though - I didn't need to buy any new clothes for the summer or back to school for her....but her shoes jumped from a kids 4 to a women's 7.5 over the summer (she was in a 1.5/2 kids last year at back to school).

I was around 12 when I got my period- my birthday is in january so I may have been just 13 but around there. I had 2 close friends, the "tall girl" and my other friend my height, around 5'. By the time we graduated high school I was the tallest, lol. I grew in my late teens, significantly. Which drs say girls don't do but...yeah. I did. My oldest grew an inch last year, at 18.
I think the period=growing thing is kind of bs. It is so variable. The only real predictor is parents height, especially the fathers (,y husband is my height and the tallest in his family, though he is not tall at all). While my oldest grew late, she is still topping out at 5'3"!
