I am working on my first (mostly) pocket page style album for a Disney vacation. I feel so stupid asking this but I haven't been able to find the right video out there that answers my question.
Where do my embellishments go? On the cards/pics? On the outside of the pockets? If both, which ones tend to work better where? I promise I have looked at blogs, pictures, videos, etc. and I just haven't found an answer.
I should have asked this a year ago, but was too embarrassed and don't have any scrappy friends to ask.

I don't do PL, but have done some pocket scrapping. Most of the time, the embellishments go on the cards and sometimes on the photos. If they go inside the pockets, they can't be very thick. If you want to use a thick embellishment, you can put it on the outside of the pocket. Take a look at Pinterest or the Scrapbook.com gallery. Lots of examples there.

Don't worry! Not embarrassing at all! I've been doing PL since beg of 2013 and I do the vast majority of embellishments on the cards. However, I do use label stickers, and flat embellishments on photos. I tend to decorate non photo cards more, simply bc I think photos often don't need as much. I don't put anything on the outside of pockets, although I have toyed with the idea in order to keep photos free of embellishments. However, I just prefer everything inside pockets. Hope this helps!

No questions is too embarrassing! I put them on the cards directly except for flair. I usually put that on the page protector since it's so bulky.

Don't be embarrassed. I don't do traditional project life, but I've put embellishments outside of the pockets of some mini albums I've made using 4x6 page protectors. It's just a personal personal preference. Just do what you want :)Go for the look that you want. There isn't a set of exact rules.

Thanks for all the response! KikiPea, I finally found a pic on the scrapbook.com gallery that you could tell the embellies were on the cards, thank you. I was only finding pics taken where you couldn't tell.
What about Thickers? Looks like they might do better on the outside?

I use Thickers a lot and always put them on the cards inside the pockets. I never put things on the outside of the pockets just because it seems to me like it would fall off over time. Maybe not though.

I'm glad you joined the party too. I always posted on NSBR on the old site but I had become a lurker on the General Scrapping Board. I'm going to start posting more on the General Scrapping Board now that we have a new site.

I scrap using divided protectors a lot and always put embellishments directly on the cards.

For me, the point of PL is to keep it simple, so I don't add very many embellishments at all. I do often stamp on cards or photos and might add something here or there, but mine is pretty plain and simple. I keep the bulk of the embellishments for my traditional 12x12s, some of which I mix in my PL albums and some go in other albums (vacations, one for each kiddo, etc.)

I always place everything from Thickers to flair inside the pocket on the cards. I figure if it does fall off at least it's still in the pocket.

Good question...i was wondering the same thing. I have only done one PL album so far (not even quite done with it)and to keep it simple I didn't embellish. Well now it looks a little plain or un-themed (it's Vegas pics) so I am going to go back and add a few embellishments.

I actually put flair on the outside of the plastic pocket! If not then the photo or journal card on the other side doesn't seem to fit. I don't use them that often, but I like the way they look on the outside too!

Boy am I glad I finally asked and happy to know I was not the only one wondering. It is a mix of pocket pages and traditional 12x12. I figured the embellies would be what brought it all together.
Thanks again!
oh, cjp I missed your post while typing. Glad to know they will work on the outside. You don't have any problems getting them to stay in place?

Don't feel embarrassed, everyone has to learn somehow.
I put mine on the photos and the cards and then put those things into the pockets. I have some pockets I have to use up from when I thought the look might work for me, so that's how I do it. I try to keep to slim embellishments like small wood veneer and enamel dots when using pocket pages. I now scrap PL using cards glued to a 12x12 sheet and then slid into a 12x12 protector so I don't have to be as careful about trying to make sure things fit into the pockets since 12x12 protectors are much more forgiving of such things. Hope that helps.

Nothing is embarrassing when you are trying to learn. I do my PL digitally but I have seen embellishments on both the inside and outside of the pocket. Like most have said it depends what it is.

That's not a dumb question at all!!!! I actually do both - depending on the embellishment. If it's a very flat sticker and I don't mind having it on the picture for all of eternity, I stick it right on - usually in a blank spot in the picture. But if it's a very thick embellishment like a flair button, regular button or chipboard - I stick it on the outside of the pocket. Here's an example...

I mostly use flattish embellishments and put them inside the pockets. I have seen thicker embellishments on the outside but wasn't sure how long they'd last there. TracieClaiborne do you think they'll stay put? My PL album is for my little niece and I thought she might be tempted to pull them off!

I put everything inside the pocket! Flair, enamel things, all of it. I don't worry about the extra bulk.

My sister did a smaller Simple Stories pocket page book for her trip to NYC and did all of those things. It turned out really cute! Check it out here... www.awdml.com/blog/?p=10069

I'm a flat embellisher. I use digital stamps and text on most everything. I'm using a 6x8 album for the entire year, so it needs to fit. I will use my silhouette to do a design for a pocket card or something like that. I also use acrylic stamps. I shy away from the flair and really thick alphas. Some people use no embellishments! It's all personal preference. I found that looking at too many PL blogs, photos, pinterest pins, etc., really kept me from doing my own thing. It's good for a quick inspiration, but just do what you like, and forget everyone else's!
I've gone back and re-done a few pockets that I didn't like later on. No biggie.

I tend to put my embellishments inside the pocket if it's something flat like a sticker, and items like flair or enamel dots (depending on the type) would go on the outside. If you want to see more examples, the Studio Calico member gallery shows a ton of PL layouts featuring embellishments.

It never occurred to me to put anything on the outside of a pocket but seeing as how many people do it is obviously not a dumb question! Maybe I'm dumb for not thinking of it! Seriously though, I personally wouldn't do that because I would worry it would fall off or get dirty or something.

I put all my embellishment on the inside of the pockets attached to a card, but I've seen others put it on the outside of the pocket. I think it's whatever look you like.

I use ScorTape to stick them on and so fat nothing has fallen off! Yup. Me too. Flat embellishments are on the cards/photos inside the pockets and I often do things like flair outside the pockets. Just use ScorTape and they stick like crazy.
