From a UK POV I see a lot of items that would be in the appropriate recycling bin, glass, paper, plastic etc.
The photos posed in water seem the worst for some reason.

What exactly is the point of posing with your trash? Is it suppose to be "art"? Just curious!

A lot of what shows in that photo would be in my recycle bin. But that is "garbage" too I guess.
Question - are they actually lying in that water? It looks as if it is photoshopped to me.

It looks weird but I think it's because the photographer made a pool of some kind in his backyard. It is disgusting, but like the photos of people with a week's worth of food I think it's meant to make us think about our consumption. How much plastic is there?! We do a lot of recycling where I live (normal rubbish is only collected every 2 weeks) and I am always horrified by the amount of plastic in our recycling bag.

That is too gross. I'd stand next to a weeks worth of trash. Not lay in it.

wow, it made me really think about the amount of trash we produce as a family of six with many pets. Our piles would be way more than any pictured in the article.

That's true here too. I think "trash" includes garbage and recycling for the purpose of the photos.
Dd has a friend who's family is anti-trash. They have their's down to one paper grocery bag per week.

There are lots of people in my area that don't have garbage service and put their garbage in trailers and pile the trailers full for months then take them to the dump. Myself I couldn't handle that.
I used to work with a person who didn't have garbage service. it was $15 to take her trailer to the dump and it took her 5 months to load it. the one thing she did was never put food in the garbage. she either put it down the disposal or fed it to the animals. She had lots of wild life around her. The sick thing she did though was store her trailer in her driveway where all the neighbors could see it and it was in front of her livingroom window so every time she looked out her window there was this pile of garbage. It was bad when company went over there they had to park next to the trailer and get out of their cars right next to it. even though she didn't put food in there the garbage still stunk....
I couldn't have done that. I freak out if my kitchen garbage isn't emptied every day full or not at the end of the day it has to go out......

We are a family of 4 and we rarely fill our 55 gallon. It is usually less than half full most weeks. We also have 2 recyle "totes" that are crammed full every week.
I am amazed at how much garbage people do accumulate in our neighborhood. We only have the one can and two totes. Some people have 2 or more cans that are past the full point every week. Blows my mind!
