Okay I admit I am newer to the gym scene but I am confused about why the gym has pizza night and donut night?
I go to the gym to get healthier I try to stay away from junk like Pizza and donuts. It really is torture to work out while smelling pizza.
I don't get it.

That's a new one on me and I can't imagine my gym doing that to be honest.

That sounds more like scrapbook store crop food. Which was just as strange to me...but I digress...
The smell would be off putting to me too...

My gym is largely populated by muscle-bound meatheads (she says lovingly) so seeing them scarfing down pizza and doughnuts wouldn't really be out outside of the norm.

One of the fittest people I know eats more pizza than any other person I know. And he's extremely fit and healthy. Just because he eats pizza doesn't make him unfit. It probably makes him more fit. A lot of people who work out still eat pizza and donuts. It's obviously a special event, so it would make sense to have something typical for that kind of socializing rather than rabbit food. Most people I know would be more likely to stay away if it's just rabbit food. I'm a firm believer that denying oneself of real food (even junk) is a surefire way to make any kind of plan (eating or getting healthy or whatever) backfire. It's just not natural to eat healthy all the time.

May I ask - is this a Planet Fitness? They are known for this shit. (And pulling squat racks out of their facilities because they are "too dangerous".) So ridiculous.

Wow my gym has mini larabars in a bowl for anyone to grab. Once a month they do a membership night where they feature local business like diet food delivery services that provide samples, fancy beverages, etc.

There are lots and lots of us overweight people at the gym trying to lose weight and eating pizza and donuts is not going to help that. It is not a special event either it is every single week. Not one time have I seen them offer something healthy.
Someone asked if it was Planet Fitness and yes it is.

I also go to Planet Fitness. I've heard they have Pizza Mondays and donuts on Saturday mornings? I've been to my location during both those time frames and have not seen this. I hope my branch doesn't participate. I'm on Weight Watchers and going to the gym is alrady a struggle. This would really piss me. I'm working hard, the gym is somewhere I should be able to go without temptation.

because they don't really give a shit if you lose weight or not? they just want to get more people in the doors to get more $$. I read something recently where planet fitness and the like bank heavily on members going for a couple months and then stopping. if everyone that signed up actually went, there wouldn't be enough room in the facility! they depend on your keeping it going because "it's only $10/mo, i'll pick it back up" and you don't. and you know there are some people to whom "hey, $10/mo and i'll eat that in pizza!" is a good deal.

It is kind of weird but not unusual. The gym I went to at one point had a full cafe bar with all the sweet goodies right there. I guess it doesn't bother me to see stuff like that and I'd rather eat it for free than pay cash for it. And if you work out right before or right after? Win win!

The other thing I noticed is that after going there a year no one loses any weight, the people I see in my clases, their weight remains the same.

I was talking to a guy a few weeks ago who was asked by PF to stop doing plank rows. Serious lifters don't fit into their business plan so they will do almost anything to discourage it.

My Planet Fitness does a pizza evening and a bagel morning once a month. I was only there on a bagel morning once. They were cut in fourths and looked dried out, so it was easy to avoid. I do find it odd, but not everyone who goes to the gym is there to lose weight.
When I went to the Y, they had coffee and tea, and offered printouts of healthy recipes and other literature.
I do enjoy the fresh floral arrangements in the women's locker room.

I went to place for awhile that was in the same shopping center as a grocery store. Every once in a while, you could tell the grocery store was making donuts. Or fried chicken.

Yeah, one just opened not far from us and I joined. For a month. Figured it was cheap and it would give me a place to do the compound lifts I can't do at home. Nope. Pretty much if you want to do something beyond a treadmill or elliptical or some really light weights on machines, you are in the "meathead" territory and they'll ask you to stop. I don't know why they even have any free weights, because they seem to actively discourage people from using them.

I go to a Planet Fitness as well. They have one pizza night a month and one bagel morning a month. Since I only work out in the morning, it's kinda nice that once a month, I can grab a bagel on my way out. It's only once a month.

I see some serious lifters every morning and I have yet to see anyone stop them from doing certain stuff. I do wish they'd do something about the few girls that seem to be using it as a club to pick up guys though.

My Planet Fitness does pizza the first Monday of the month and bagels in the morning the first Tuesday of the month. I just don't understand it either. I've never been there for bagel Tuesday but I am there for pizza Monday. It amazes me the amount of pizza people eat while working out or the ones who take 4,5,6 slices to go as they leave.

I used to work at a gym all through college but we never had pizza or donut days. Sometimes we would have sales reps come in to sample energy drinks but that's about it. Every once in a while I would have to eat my dinner at the front desk because no other staff was around. People would get annoyed that I would be eating, but my managers allowed it so I just tried to be as discrete as possible.

I actually see this as a good thing. I think it encourages a healthy lifestyle. There are lots of people who go out for pizza with their friends or family at night. I think the gym is trying to offer up some incentive to people - you can still have your pizza, but you can fit in a workout at the same time, too. It's like my cycling club. We go out for long rides on Sunday morning and stop at a diner at the halfway point for breakfast. When you start to mix social outings (that involve food) with physical activity, I think it's more enjoyable for people, and more sustainable overall.

I belong to Planet Fitness & noticed they do a pizza night. Not a problem for me, I don't like pizza. I find it rather funny, but I guess it's a way to keep business. As far as free weights, our PF has them & I've seen some pretty serious lifters. They haven't said a thing to them. They discourage loud noises, but it states that on the door. I go with my daughter & we jog on the treadmill & chat, no one has said anything. It seems to be a pretty clean, laid back gym. I like it.

My gym has a smoothie bar, and I'll bet the large smoothie has about as many calories as a donut.

I go to Planet Fitness. The first Monday of the month is pizza night, and the first Tuesday morning is bagels. Guess what? You don't have to eat them.

They have free weights, Smith machines, and everything. A few times I've taken my teen DS with me, and there have been some trainers there who have given him weight-lifting tips. Don't paint them all with the same brush.
