Our dd will inherit our house when we both pass away and she still didn't help us pick it out.

Too many chefs spoil the broth. You likely have a clear list of things you want/don't want in a house. Imagine 7 people w/their own requests. On the other hand, if any one of those kids should choose to provide the down payment then by all means let them help choose! Go w/your hubby only. As for bedrooms, once the house is purchased let them draw straws.

No kids in my opinion.... and did you say five of them?? Then that would be a big fat no.. lol..
I have moved over 30 times in my life.. mostly when I was little and with my parents. I didn't get a choice of anything (or my sister).. they bought the house and all we were concerned about is who got which bedroom. Otherwise, we didn't get a vote. Didn't bother me a bit really, never thought of it. We moved, we picked bedrooms (usually oldest, me; got first choice).. and that was that.

I took the kids last summer when we started looking at houses (still looking, sigh). My daughter fell in love with one house that had a third floor with an entertainment area for the kids. As it turned out, the house had a rat infestation , but it has been the standard by which she evaluates all other houses, and I wish I hadn't taken her, as it is quite unlikely we're going to have a kiddie disco on the upper floors of whatever we do end up buying.

Growing up we moved several times, but always into houses that were built after purchase, so there was no visiting beforehand. My parents saw model homes, then selected what they wanted incorporated into their purchase. We kids did not see the house until we moved in.
DH and I have not bought a house since before our kids were born. We bought our current house 18 1/2 years ago, when I was pregnant with our oldest.
I can't imagine house hunting with kids. I can't even imagine moving with kids. Probably why we've been in this house for so long.
